Thamin The dead of winter was upon the soquili lands. It wasn't hard to tell; gnarled and twisted branches hung naked, shrubs once bright and filled with fruit laid in twisted heaps of barren vines and crisp dead leaves, and glistening sheets of white snow and ice blanketed the fields of grass and flowers. Perhaps it had been his own ability to move and forage normally; perhaps it had been his demeanor and outlook on the world the past three winters, but whatever it was Ryker knew that this winter was Not the same as the ones before. Puffs of frozen breath swirled and billowed around the navy maw of the male as he laboriously dug through the frozen terrain for food. The work was harder now and the meals, meager as they were already, seemed only to grow smaller and smaller with each passing day. Ryker never, not once in his life, ever thought he would welcome spring and the coming of new life, but.... He yearned for it and would welcome it, and the meals it would provide, with 'open arms'.
-MoomoolatteCha- The crunching sounds of her hooves traveled through the small area. Eyes getting soft as she looked at the beautiful sights of the snow laying over the land, trees, and brush. It was gorgeous, though it did take away their food supply.Which was most important.Good thing her and Malaki had gathered up so much food during the fall. They had a bunch of food to go around, but they had so many others in their herd that they needed all they could get. If Linnie could she could share it to anyone and everyone that needed it. Letting out a long sigh, she stopped in her place at the edge of the trees. It had been a long time since she stepped foot outside of the teepee, that was her last heart break, ever since she has been terrified of loosing everyone in her life.Which always results into something bad happening,so she has been keeping herself away from interacting with anyone. But Linnie felt change, something in her heart made her feel like something great was going to happen to her. What though...

Ryker grunted and sighed as he swung his head side to side, pushing snow away ground the ground and trying to uncover as much foliage as possible. Winter truly was the season for the predators; all the pathetic lifeforms that didnt eat meat grew weak and sickly, either due to lack of nutrition or lack of endurance. His own hardships made it abundantly clear just how superior they were and just how, despite what he had been raised to believe and his previous customs, he could never be quite worthy of their favor. It was something that had burdened him for the longest time. But... Here he was. For what reason? For what purpose? He was a lame carcase, a walking bag of bones just waiting for the life that he had to be extinguished. He had hoped and longed for death for quite some time. He had let himself wither away into nothing, and yet he did not die. He knowingly and openly wandered through dangerous portions of predators territories, and yet he did not die. Short of personally killing himself Ryker had tried everything he could think of to let nature and fate take it's course.... And yet he did not die. Perhaps the blood stained alicorn and the sharp tongued mare had been right in that he had not served his purpose yet. Perhaps the grump of a goat that seemed to plague his existence was correct in believing that Rykers destiny was not to be the meal to another. But if not then what purpose could he possibly serve? He growled slightly at the thought before eying the limp and browned grass beneath his hooves. He ripped it from the ground violently, letting go of some of his anger and aggression as he did so. He chewed the meager mouthful slowly, his ears shifting to and from as he listened for possible others. Most stayed sheltered in these bleak times, hiding in their homes from the cold, but that didnt eliminate the possibility.
It had been months since Ryker had seen or even heard another living being, so despite his awareness it still came as a bit of a surprise to hear the echoing crunch of the crisp snow and ice beneath the hooves of another. He paused his actions and swallowed his food, relaxing in place as he simply waited for whomever it was to come into view. He wished for a predator, and he knew he wouldn't put up a fight. A slight smirk spread across his maw as the thought of all the others he had met thus far being wrong about his fate, and for a brief moment he had a slight bit of pleasure. He welcomed the thought and hoped that death was coming for him, disguised as soquili in need of a snack.

Linnie kept looking around at the cold and white surroundings. She always wondered if there was a white soquili that hid in the snow just to peer around at everyone that walked by.That would have be so silly of them.A smile went across her face.Almost like the time Malaki decided to hide in the snow and try to jump out at her. Of course she made it seem like she didn't see him.He was having a blast.
She didn't even notice anyone around, quite oblivious to anyone around her. Not unless they come out and actually speak out to her or they were standing in clear sight.Giving a large sigh,it just felt nice to be outside of that teepee.Enjoying the sights and the beautiful smelling air. She wished her children and father were out here enjoying it with her.But sometimes it was nice to spend time alone and get around the lands once again.
As Linnie turned the corner of some trees, she heard something besides her in the bushes.

Still as stone Ryker stood, waiting for his fate to peek from behind the trees and to deliver unto him what he believed he deserved. Time seemed to creep by slowly, a matter of minutes seeming to take hours. But Ryker remained still and waited. And waited. And...
Finally it was too much for the scarred stallion to bare anymore. What did he have to do?! Walk right up to a skinwalker or kalona and scream "Eat me!!" With a sigh that escaped more like a snarl Ryker hobbled off to find the owner of the hoof-falls that he had heard. Any decent predator should have known he was there, and being lame as he was should have found him to be 'easy pickings'. How stupid did they have to be not to take advantage of a treat such as this? Or... perhaps they were just to prideful? He half shrugged in afterthought, accepting pride as an adequate excuse for the lack of killing him. But he knew all too well that ones pride could be their downfall.
He reached the trees, instantly noticing the tracks of another soquili not too far into the woods. He snorted once again and followed them as quickly as he could in his condition, huffing and puffing all the while. He chuckled softly to himself. If the predator did not hear him now with all the commotion he was making it really didnt deserve to call itself one.

Linnie started to semi panic. What was coming for her?It was making such a loud noise, almost like he was going to try to come hunt her down and eat out her insides.Pinning her ears to her head as her heart raced. She wasn't usually scared of much but hearing something loud crashing towards her kind of frightened the tiny mare.
Her eyes kept looking back behind her as she stood there almost in a frozen state. What was it? A killer?Someone running from something?Or even an animal running away from danger.
"Hello?!" She yelled out. That was probably one of the most stupidest things she has done. Why would you call out to it,Linnie? It could easily dodge off course and you could make your amazing get away. Or it would chase her down until she was out of breath.

Rykers head jerked back in surprise and he skidded to a halt when a female voice met his ears. This did Not sound anything like what he had been expecting. Perhaps his wishing and longing had clouded his mind and he was the one that had been the fool. He lowered his head and softly continued to step forward almost like a cat stalking it's prey. His nostrils flared silently as he scented the air. He snarled at the smell, and as he rounded a group of trees to come almost face to a regular mare he couldn't help but snarl in disgust. He straightened himself, letting his head loll off to the side almost as if he was saying 'you have Got to be kidding me...'To be honest, Ryker was quite disheartened by the sight of the mare; for one brief moment he had been ecstatic that there may finally be an end. Yet again, though, fate seemed to be laughing in his face, denying him the release he so longed for. "Great....."

-MoomoolatteCha- Linnie heard the noise come to a halt, she flatened her ears and lookeda round worriedly. Where was it? It wanted to kill her for sure, but maybe it noticed it wasn't what they wanted?"H...hello...?"Calling out again, she started to shiver a little bit.Normally she wasn't this far from home for very long. She looked back towards the way it was to go home.Go that way?Or try to figure out what this being was.
Thamin Ryker's nostrils flared and his lips puckered almost as if he was chewing on the inside of his cheek as he contemplated what to do next. He had neither want nor desire to interact with anyone. There was no point nor purpose in doing so and by doing so it would only instigate the typical bouts of pity that he received. Yet in this hard time Ryker knew that the best chance for survival was in numbers. All the more reason to avoid the frantic looking mare. But... The issue of finding food remained. He had set out this day with the intention of finding a meal and he was not going to return home until he had done so. It was obvious by the mare calling out once more that she knew he was there. It was also obvious that she had not seen him. He could retreat back into the trees and hopefully avoid any further interactions. Or he could continue to dig for some food, saving the time it would take to retreat, saving the energy, and allowing him to return to his cave all the sooner. Despite how much Ryker disliked the odds that the mare would see him the later of the two options was the more favorable option. He snorted at the predicament he had put himself into. Perhaps, if he didnt respond, the mare would just continue on her way? With one last snort he thrust his snout back into the snow and began to push it from side to side, digging his way down to what my lay beneath.
-MoomoolatteCha- Welp, that was a bust.Of course if they didn't want to interact with anyone, they wouldn't answer,Linnie.Stupid head.Shaking her head slowly she gave a soft sigh. Then an idea sparked into her head."If you are looking for food,I have a place to stay for tonight and you can have as much food as you may like."Linnie wasn't the one to drive someone away no matter of how they look or acted.Kindness was always the way to try to get into peoples hearts. She knew how horrible this winter was and she was lucky that Malaki had found as much food as he did. If the other didn't answer then she would be on her way. There wasn't much food for miles and miles,Linnie knew that but she wanted to help others if she could.
Thamin Ryker paused as the mare's voice reached his half buried ears. He didnt quite catch the first part of what the mare said, it had been muffled and clouded by the white mound around his skull. He halted his progress and lifted his head. He stood there, in silence, listening and contemplating. A specific phrase had caught his interest; 'have as much food as you may like'. Despite his lack of want to go to another soquili's dwelling the concept of obtaining food without having to dig for endless hours was quite appealing. And even if it was a trap Ryker was wanting death; so what could be wrong with that? The fact of the matter was he would have to interact. He would have to be courteous. And to be honest, he did not think that was even a possibility. So silent and still he stood, simply watching the mare fro a distance. He wanted, and needed, the food. But.... He had not been faced with such a decision before. He, to put it simply, froze.
-MoomoolatteCha- Giving a large sigh,Linnie started to turn away. She wasn't going to say anymore. All she hoped that was the other found food quickly and stayed alive. There wasn't much else she could do besides offer and if the offer wasn't taken then it wasn't her fault. They wanted to starve. Shrugging her shoulders and tossing her short bangs from her eyes, she started on her way. Though,it depressed her inside that anyone would not take the offer for help.Even the strongest one in need of help would've taken it dispite their honor. Linnie started off into a little trot.Snow kicking up at her heels as she trotted. It was a little too cold for it,but she needed to make it home so she wouldn't freeze.
Thamin Ryker hadnt moved an inch. What was wrong with him? It was so simple. Go with the mare and get food, or dont. This should not have caused such a reaction. He shouldnt have to stand there and weight the pros and cons of eating. He was angry with himself. So wrapped up in his personal debate was he that Ryker barely noticed that the mare was turning to leave. It had been his hope that she would go, and it had been his goal as well in the beginning; but as she began to move a sudden spark of.... Something he had yet to experience flooded through him. With every hoof-fall the mare was growing more distant, and with her his, perhaps, only chance to truly have a full belly throughout this seeming endless age of ice. And a free meal at that! His eyes widened and he fumbled to step forward. He attempted to call out for the mare to wait but the words got caught in his throat and no sound emerged. Finally realizing that he wanted to take the mare up on her offer he scrambled to get her attention. He hobbled and limped as quickly as he could to catch up, still trying to get any sound to emerge from his maw. As her pace quickened a sinking feeling consumed him. He was too late. He tried to quicken his pace, to bound like he use to, to gallop, or even trot. It was futile. His marred leg threatened to buckle after his first leap, and followed through on his second. He crashed into the drift of snow surrounding him, but despite the pain he scrambled to right himself. He craned his neck to peer over the snow. He had lost her. He couldnt see any bit of her any more. "Wait!" He managed to belt out as he struggled to get out of the snow. "Wait..." he mumbled once more as he frantically searched, realizing he had missed his chance.
