Training is the only way to upgrade your powers!
It may be tedious, but it's well worth the effort. Training can be completed alone or with a partner. Training partners are unassigned, meaning you get to choose who you train with, though staff does recommend training with your assigned partner to get a better feel for each other's abilities and ensure optimum efficiency and teamwork during exams and future missions. The basic concept with training is that, in either the Material or Astral Plane, a psychic practices a given power. For Astral Plane training, you're essentially running a class course again by yourself or with a chosen partner/team.
Completed training grants 2 PSI Points, but completion of training is not limited to reaching the end of a course or earning an upgrade: If someone is booted from the mental world through lack of mental health, one or both partners agree to end the training early, or an RP partner disappears for two weeks without notice, the training will be considered complete.
In order to upgrade an ability, 10 training points must be earned. These are calculated separately from PSI Points. Each successful use of an ability within the training thread counts as 1 point. This means that, if a training thread goes long enough, a character can reach an upgrade in a single training session. However, characters may only upgrade one power once per training thread. If you complete a training thread, you must wait two weeks before starting another one. Players are expected to calculate their own training points in each training post but they will be looked over by staff for verification.
The mechanics of training differ between running previous courses and training a single ability. Running a course will merely set out the mechanics of that course to the participants without staff interaction (however, as each course takes place in an instructor's mind, it is implied they are always keeping an eye out). Whether in the astral or material plane, training will involve dice rolls or RNG. Courses may ONLY be run through during training if they have been passed/completed and their accolade earned. Running courses again is a great way to finish gathering any collectibles you missed and earning loads of extra PSI Points!
