- Name: Aedan (ee-dan)
Race: Shifter/Wind Hybrid
Gender: Male
3 Base Traits:
----->Clingy Having been born a mixed race, Aedan has always been shunned by his tribe. Only one has ever associated with him, and Aedan clings to his best friend with great dependency and much affection for him.
----->Insecure Aedan is used to feeling like he has little worth, as the rest of his tribe treats him that way. Only his best friend is able to remind him that there is more to him than being a half-breed.
----->Loyal Aedan may be nervous and untrusting of others, but once a person has gained his trust and his friendship, Aedan will be loyal to them in any situation until his trust has been broken.
Personality: Aedan is a very timid boy. He can be brave when his loved ones are in danger, and he can be reassuring when they are upset, but when not in a circumstance where someone else needs him, Aedan is usually very meek. The exception is when he is with Ka'hal. Aedan seems to draw a bit confidence from his best friend, feeling a bit more outgoing and brave when he knows that Ka'hal is there to protect him. He sometimes tires of traveling but usually enjoys it very much and is happy to try to pull his weight by gathering wild edibles and cooking for Ka'hal--hobbies which he very much enjoys.
Description: Aedan is a mixed race between Shifters and Wind Earthlings. While his hair and skin are paler than Wind Earthlings and more like Shifters', the shades of those features do not change. His ears are slightly longer than Wind Earthlings' but still rather small. His body is petite but toned, and he is short, barely reaching 5' 3''. Both pink and blue crystals encircle his wrists like bracelets, and a few, tiny, barely-seen crystals speckle the edges of his cheeks. His silvery white hair comes down to his neck, and his bangs fall, to his chin, in a gentle arc around his brilliant blue eyes.
Clothing: With Aedan's small stature, he gets cold easily in Sauti's naturally cooler climate, so his clothes consist of simply a green long-sleeved shirt and long, pale blue pants with common, brown boots.
Accessories: The only accessory that Aedan carries with him is a pale blue shawl which he wears often for when he feels chilled.
History: Aedan's mother was a traveling merchant who roamed the lands of Tendaji. While many Wind Earthlings stayed with their tribes, Elana had always been more of a free spirit, happiest only when she was on the road. She had never yearned for a family of any kind, yet when she came across a tribe of Shifters, she quickly found herself falling for one of them. It was a fast-paced but loving relationship, always kept hidden from the others, but when she suddenly found herself pregnant, her life was turned upside-down. She was both ecstatic and devastated. Knowing the strife that this news would cause for her love and his family, to protect him, she stole away in the night without a word.
Elana eventually found herself among a tribe of Wind Earthlings once again. Though she would've preferred to continue traveling, in the state that she was, it was simply not an option. After several months of being with the tribe, eventually, she gave birth to a baby boy whom she named Aedan. This was a surprise to none of the tribe since she had made it clear, from the beginning, that she was carrying a child of mixed races. None of the tribe were happy with this, but they had agreed that it would've been too heartless to turn her away.
Aedan was a happy child while living with his mother. They were close, and she always doted on him, but a day came when Aedan would no longer have her. He was just a youngling when it happened. The two had been off gathering wild edibles when a monster attacked. Aedan had been the creature's target. He had been knocked out as the fight started, and when he awoke, his mother was nowhere to be seen.
Elana was never found, and for the first time, Aedan found himself alone. Rather than leave him to the monsters, Aedan was adopted by one of the Wind Earthling families. They never treated him like their own, but the fed and clothed him. It was with that family that he met the one person who would keep him sane and happy throughout the years. Aedan and Ka'hal, the family's only child, became fast friends. Ka'hal never cared about Aedan's race, and Aedan absolutely adored Ka'hal.
As the years went by, Aedan and Ka'hal only became closer. They were inseparable. Aedan could no longer remember much of his mother or the way that she had doted on him, and though the Wind Tribe was not cruel to him, never teasing him or hurting him, all but Ka'hal went out of their way to avoid him as much as possible. For a while, Aedan didn't notice. It was all that he could remember ever having known, so he had little to compare it to, but as the years passed, Aedan began to notice the whispers and harsh looks that he would sometimes get. He began to notice the way the other younglings got played with and doted on and then how the other prentices would get praised for doing something right when these things were simply expected of him. It slowly began to eat away at his confidence and self-worth until they were nearly nonexistent when he was not in the presence of Ka'hal.
One day, Aedan simply broke. After an emotional breakdown, out of which only Ka'hal was able to pull him, he had told his best friend that he couldn't take it anymore--that he had to leave. He hadn't truly meant it; he had simply been fishing for comfort and reassurances, and though he did wish to leave, his unhealthy dependency on Ka'hal was too great for him to bear being separated. Nothing had ever shocked him as much as when, without Aedan ever asking, Ka'hal agreed to go with him.

As usual, I'm starting with the appearance and working my way to the harder questions. All of his looks seem fine, though there are some things I want to clear up about his clothing. Blue is not actually a wind earthling color, and since he was brought up with wind earthlings I would think that he would be wearing their colors. Is there a reason for the blue? Are their other things the group he was brought up in would do to make Aedan feel shunned and worthless besides just generally ignoring him? What are Aedan's feelings on his mother's disappearance? Does he ever think about his father and what he must be like? Does he think of trying to find him? Does Aedan feel anger towards the wind tribe that ignored him, or does he excuse them or something else?

Thanks so much for the critiques! I'm really excited about this guild and hope that I can make stories as compelling as everyone else's! For Aedan's feelings about his mother's disappearance, I imagine that he was probably too young to remember much about it. He probably vaguely remembers the way that she would dote on him, but the memories would be more dreamlike than anything. He probably feels resentful at times, wondering why it had to be HIS mother that it happened to but then remembering that, if it had happened to anyone else, he and his mother would've been blamed for it because they always seemed to be the cause of all of the tribe's misfortunes, no matter how far of a stretch it was to relate them to the incident. Aedan never knew his father and had never known what it felt like to have two parents (and could barely remember what it felt like to have one parent). He probably wonders, sometimes, where his father is or if his father would even want him, but his desire to have a role-model or guardian of any kind has always been fulfilled through Ka'hal. About the tribe: I imagine that they probably didn't just ignore him but actively went out of their way to avoid him. Parents probably dragged their kids away if they tried to speak to him, and he and his mother (while she was there) were probably blamed for all of their misfortunes. ("If you had been watching camp, this wouldn't have happened" even if there were ten people watching, or "I'm sure that my child caught this illness from Aedan," even if he is in perfect health and never allowed to associate with them.) He probably feels hurt by the tribe very often, but having grown up that way, he has probably just settled into the mindset that this is his lot in life, so they have a right to treat him as they do. Finally, about his clothes. There are probably a few ideas that his mother instilled in him while she was there, and they were stressed so much that he never forgets them. I'm sure that one would be to respect his elders which is part of the reason that he's been trained to hold his tongue and be subservient. Another thing would probably be to never, ever judge anyone regardless or their appearance, race, whom they love or even how they act at times (such as their own tribe often treating them like or worse than strangers). Another thing that she would have taught him would be to have pride in both of his races because despite being judged for being of mixed races, he should be proud of his lineage. This is the reason why he still wears (and his mother had worn while she was alive) the Shifters' blue. Rather than getting him singled out more than he already is, his tribe respects the fact that he shows reverence to both sides of his lineage rather than trying to pretend that he is one of them.

Ok, just a couple more questions then. Why is this particular group of people so against mixed breeds? Why wouldn't it just be certain individuals rather than the whole lot?

Perhaps, with this particular group, they once got into a rather bloody battle with a traveling group of mixed breeds who were looking for land of their own, and they haven't really trusted most mixed breeds since? If it's a bad idea, I can think of something else though. :3 EDIT: Scarlett had a good idea too that maybe they're against Aedan and his mother in particular because bad things started to happen when she joined the group, and it was just bad timing, but they blame Aedan and his mother?

I like that second idea better. It would make sense that they would feel he was a black sheep if everything bad happened after his mother and him came along. But besides that: he's all set emotion_awesome Journal
