B-B-B-Be careful making wishes in the dark, dark
Can't be sure when they've hit their mark

"Good evening Nightvale. This is Dj Sparrow welcoming you into the Weekend Void Mix. Before we begin it seems we have some news." The voice rang through the air waves like velvet. IT was smooth, but held an almost haunting tone for a young woman. "It seems some outsiders have found themselves in our gracious little town. City Council, and the Sheriff's Secret Police have asked me to remind all my lovely listeners to welcome these outsiders into our town. After all it's been a while since we've had some fresh blood." There was a small laugh before the voice continued. "Remember all outsiders have different customs then we do. When speaking to these people keep an open mind. Some of them might believe in things like Angels, but we all know angels don't exist. Still be polite, and mindful, who knows you might make a new pal." There was a pause for a moment before music started playing. "Now that station management has gone into their weekly hibernation its time to break out of our skins and enjoy the party! This is Fall Out Boy with their song My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark."

Placing her headphones on her neck she grinned as she pressed a few keys before her. Most of the workers were home by now so she didn't have to worry about her voice influencing anyone. Diana appeared to be a young woman in her 20s, she was the Weekend Dj at Nightvale Community Station, the local radio station, and maybe the only station in Nightvale. She like the night life, and loved the power that came with her job. The creatures that walked through the dark allies and only showed themselves after the sun had long set. She was their commander, the leader of their lives for the short weekends.

Life in Nightvale was nothing special on the surface. They had a glowcloud in charge of the PTA, the forbidden dog park...well forbidden to everyone but her. She grinned at that thought. She wondered what trouble she could pull from behind the iron fence posts tonight. Stretching she listened to the music that poured from her headphones. It seemed there were a few parties happening in town this evening. Spring break would be soon and she would take over the station for a full week.

Looking at the time she wondered if she should order Pizza from Big Ricco's or if she should wait and just get Subway on her way home.

Tom had cracked his neck as he opened a door to the subway which was thankfully still open and caught the beginning of Fall out boy being played over the radio. Ordering his meal and drink he takes a seat near the window only noticing how lonely this town was seeming to be. The worker who had taken his order seemed to have not been trying to look at him since he had entered and he had not seen any other worker there since he arrived. He found these things odd, but maybe it was just normally like that in this town of Nightvale and he ignored it as he heard his order yelled out.

After returning to his seat with food on tray he takes his soda and sips on it happily as he looks out the window again to see flickers off in the distance. They soon disappear and a shadow had flashed by which surprised him, especially as he could not see what had caste the shadow in the first place. Maybe it was a stray cat or a night owl that had found its way through the street looking for food of its own. He pulled out a notepad from his pocket and used a pen he had on him to start going through a list of things that still had to be done before he could go to bed. Stuff like packing his things away which could be saved for later, set up his bed, buy some food, ect.

Tom had enough money saved up to get what he needed for now and didn't pay no mind towards where he was going to be living as he was going to be staying in a hotel room until he was ready to leave. It was not the best hotel, only one bed, a desk and lamp, with a radio on the dresser, but he was fine with simple things so he wouldn't complain as long as he bought new sheets like he had planned to tonight. Now he just wondered where he could get these things as he didn't know what stores would be open at this time or if he would have to wait until tomorrow. He flips the page and stares at the words "Only in Nightvale can you not understand." He didn't know what it meant yet, but wanted to find out. With a sigh and a bite of his sub he put the pen and notebook away.

Alone in a universe so vast
Dreaming of a home I've never seen

Night loomed heavily with twinkling stars that shimmered from the days heat. Then, amid the quiet of evenfall, a boom echoed overhead. To the unwary, it sounded like thunder, but to the more suspitious of nature the sound had a more ominous and unearthly feel to it.

In truth, the sound was a small ecape pod as it broke through the atmosphere and shot across the sky. It dropped below radar detection range well before it shot over the town.

Just beyond the limits of nightvale, the pod finally touched earth, shattering into thousands of pieces and ricochetting metals in all directions. The impact sent a shock that could be felt for miles, the crater more like a giant skid in the sand. Then silence resumed as the wreckage came to a shuttering stop.

After a few moments, a hunched figure untangled itself from the wires and panels that had shielded it from the brunt force of the landing. A low snake-like hiss emanated as it stood on the wrek and looked around.

"Holy cow, look at that!" a male called out from just beyond the sinking ridge the pod had created. The voice caused the figure to hunch low in the shadows, its dark skin reflecting in the pale starlight like the metal around it.

"Oh my god, that is so cool!" A girl answered, her face looking down on the pod, a small device in her hand that lit her face. "Wait, I think I see something moving down there," she added as she stared intently on the glowing device.

Striking swift, the humans barely were able to utter a scream as the alien dove onto them. The male she had no use for, so bit his head off in one chomp. The female, however, she suspeded in the air with her tail around the girl's neck. Bringing the human closer, she chattered her teeth as she inspected her for compatability. The human female squirmed and tried to make noise, but the coil of tail around her neck only needed to tighten to silence her completely. Deciding this one would do for her purposes, she opened a compartment in her crown. Using deft claws, she tore off the females head and put it in the compartment, letting the body fall limply to the ground.

It took longer than she thought, but Evelyn soon stood where the alien creature once stood. She looked human enough, an awkward form that only had two hands and no tail, but at least she could walk among the natives without fuss until she could find a suitable nest. She stole the clothes that weren't covered in blood from the womans' body, donning them curiously. The bodies themselves she left behind, for her stomach in this form was too small to eat all at once and she only ate fresh meat, so carrying them around would be a waste of time.

She would have preferred a dark place to lay, but the dessert stretched around her featureless, with the exception of a cluster of lighted structures. Her implanted memories suggested it was a human nest. A dangerous place for a queen without soldiers, but she had little choice. So she made her way to a place that she soon found out to be Nightvale.

B-B-B-Be careful making wishes in the dark, dark
Can't be sure when they've hit their mark

"Well my loves, it seems we have another visitor in Nightvale. Just a bustling tourist destination aren't we. Be afraid, but polite to our new friend. Fear them, and revere then. As always, good night Nightvale, good night."

With that silence filled the airwaves, as if the radio was never on. Pure silence as the slender girl rose from her chair and stretched. She tossed her headset on her desk and grabbed her purse. Exciting the building she look toward the sky and wished for rain. How it would feel if such a thing even existed.

"I guess next time, huh?" She asked a little hopeful as she walked down the street. In a low voice she sang a soft melody under her breath. Maybe she could pull out on of the new visitors. She wasn't sure if her song even worked, but her mother had always told her they would.

'Man, or woman, someone is bound to be lured to your song my child.' Though her mother didn't know about the mark of the hooded figures forced upon her. Years had passed, but no one rushed to her when she sang. She couldn't use her song during her show. It just wasn't polite, and everyone remember the accident 40 something years ago.

Passing by the dog park she pulled out an extra bag and threw it over the fence. She didn't feel like attending the meetings this month, and she would go unnoticed like always.

It was quiet tonight, music was being played off in the distance. Maybe no one could hear her song? She sighed and kept walking almost aimlessly. Just like she did every time her show ended.

Not sure what it was he assumed a car accident might have taken place close by. Tom finished up and swiftly walked out the door to see a few onlookers watching the direction of whatever it was. He decided to to ignore it for now as it was most likely gonna be on the news later or being talked about. Even if he did go there it would probably be blocked off so he started walking towards his new home with his drink in hand.

He was walking down a street when he noticed the park nearby, after walking the edge a bit he noticed a sign that said "Dog Park" and could only wonder why it would be fenced in, not really noticing people around he wondered how many people actually lived in this town. It couldn't be that small. He heard singing nearby soon enough and looked in the direction it was coming from. Someone across the street it seemed. He couldn't tell how old, well roughly anyways, but knew it was female. Upon exchanging head looks Tom waves at her once and keeps walking. "What a fun place this is." He says as he could see his apartments off in the upcoming distance.

Eyes, Evelyn decided, were a bothersome feature. Her own form didn't have need for such a sense, and she agreed it was for good reason. They were fragile, soft, and prone to darting over confusing images. Not to mention they were slow to adjust to various light intensities. She wished she could shed this skin and seek out a home in a more efficient manner, but Evelyn was a patient creature.

So she kept walking down the streets in her borrowed skin, silvery eyes wide as they took in all the new images around her. It truly was a marvel, she thougt. These creatures made such nests, and they didn't use any of their own organic material to do so. She wondered if they had evolved to make use of their fluids in other productive ways.

Speaking of said creatures, she took note of how many nests there were, but she saw barely any soldiers. It made sense not to see any queens, with the exception of herself, it was prudent to keep them safe in the heart of their nests, leaving soldiers to scavenge and guard outside. But there were too few, she thought. She pondered this conundrum, going so far as to think that maybe they were more active during the daylight hours. She didn't have much experience with this, only scattered imprinted memories of a warmth and radiation that rotated high above. It made her curious as to what it looked like through these sensitive opticals.

Then a loud noise screamed through the air, making her jump from its intensity. Lights flashed in different hues atop racing machines, screeching by in the direction that she'd come. More and more kept coming, making Evelyn want to shrink away from the over stimuli. It was as if the noise was a signal, because no sooner had the sirens faded that the humans began to poor from their nests. They didn't look ready to fight, but their sheer numbers were enough to make her take a side road that appeared more calm.
