Hyweth had been irritable all that morning. And she was starving. She felt as if she had not eaten in days, though the glow of her hide suggested otherwise. Mine! The gold's tone was sharp and commanding as she looked down at her rider. Mine, you will stop that now. Joleen had been pacing in front of her dragon since early morning, wringing her hands. It was a nervous habit. A terrible habit. Hyweth had patiently watched for well over a candlemark; only now had it begun to upset her.

Joleen, with all her worry and pacing, was new to this. She had been brought to Ista when Hyweth had been a little over five months old. She'd been taught to see the signs as a weyrling; the glowing hide, Hyweth's strange behavior, the increasing, strange mixture of lust and agitation she felt because of her gold's mixed emotions... It was said to be the same thing everytime. Hyweth would start by choosing a favorite, they'd told her--they always did. Whether or not that favorite was the one who caught her, that was a different story.

There was little time to consider who this favorite might be, though, for soon Hyweth would--

I hunger.

The gold bellowed out a challenge.

She would be blooding her kills. All those dragons worthy of chasing her, perhaps to catch her, would come. With a fierce snarl, she challenged her rider's authority; Joleen was telling her to blood only. She was starved! Only blood, my love. How else will you fly? If you are too heavy, you won't be able to fly well. The gold obeyed, but voiced her displeasure. She blooded a third, and took to the air.

Please note that this is a rigfed game with a predetermined winner. This game does not decide rank. Our next flight will be thrown open!

Both bronzes and browns are Invited to join! (Ambitious blues as well!) Please roll two dice each post, we will go in rounds. At the end of the game, the player with the closest score to mine wins a custom dragon or whers! (Up to brown! <3)

The heavy wave of emotions hit Jasi like a punch in the gut (or a little lower if you want to be exact). She gasped, her eyes wide and turned instinctively towards her dragon. "Vor?"

The brown uncoiled slowly from the ledge of their weyr where he'd been pretending to sleep. The roar of the gold goaded him into movement. His eyes whirled, their color deepening to a dark violet with bright flashes of vivid red streaking across their surface.Hyweth rises. He got to his feet, claws digging gouges into the solid rock beneath him.

"oooooh no. We're still weyrlings!"

You think I care?

"They're not going to like this."

You think I care? He repeated, his chest swelling as he took a deep breath, bellowing his answer in his own baritone. The sound echoed across the weyrbowl with a mixture of rage and want. He stretched his wings to their fullest and soared to the feeding grounds where Hyweth blooded her kills.

They can think what they want. That we are young, that we are small or weak. I don't care. Hyweth will be mine. Let them come tell ME no. My claws will supply our answer. He spoke for the both of them, his passion stiring Jasiline to move from their weyr herself despite the fact she still felt herself that they weren't ready. She was a gold! Vorcath should be chasing the greens of the weyr, not the Jr. Weyrwoman's dragon!

What we should do is no one's business but our own. Vorcath hissed. That would be the last thing he said on the matter as he bared his long fangs, a deep rumble vibrating the air around him. He would get what he wanted! He took to the air, wingbeats behind Hyweth and once again, roared his own challenge.

Ashlyn

Vorcath was not the only Weyrling dragon that seemed raring to go this morning, Gyafrith was pacing as he waiting for his own rider to get ready.

Mine, hurry up, Hyweth is going to rise. Today is the day I prove that you and I are met for great things. I am going to catch her, Mine, the honor is going to go to me this time,Gyafrith rumbled, his eyes showing his determination. Ashlyn sighed, hating the rush of emotions that was filling her right now, thanks to her stubborn dragon.

"Alright, I'm up, though I am not sure if we are allowed. We aren't full riders yet,"Ashlyn reminded the other.

We are almost full riders, so it doesn't hurt to try,Gyafrith pointed out. He went towards the feeding grounds, roaring his own challenge for all to hear. Ashlyn felt a jolt of adrenline as she rushed out of the weyr, almost running into Jasiline.

"Your dragon too?"she asked, falling into step beside the other.

Jasiline

Jasiline blinked owlishly, her consciousness pulling away from Voracath just enough to register that she was being spoken to. It was hard to fight against the pull of his mind as the flight began. Ashlyn. A fellow candidate. Bluerider. Not competition. Voracath snarled in her mind.

"Yeah. No stopping him." Was her dazed reply. She wasn't in competition with Ashlyn. Ashlyn was not a threat. She was a friend. Jasiline held firm to that thought even as Voracath pulled her in the opposite direction.

The brown snarled at the blue that had joined the flight. How dare he?! His tail thrashed in warning. Get close and there would be trouble. Hyweth was HIS.

J'nes and Hatteth

The roar of a queen was a very noticable thing, and naturally Hatteth did not fail to hear it. But unlike many other male dragons in the Weyr, he didn't rush towards the sound.

J'nes looked over at his brown. "Aren't you going to join in the Flight?"

Why bother?, Hatteth replied. He was sprawled out in the sun on the ledge of their weyr, but his eyes were firmly shut as if he refused to even look at the glowing queen. What queen would pick me when there are larger, more impressive dragons chasing her?

J'nes walked over to the mouth of the weyr and looked out. "So far there are no bronzes, or even bigger dragons. Just a blue and another brown, both Senior Weyrlings."

Hatteth was somewhat surprised at this news and cracked open to see for himself. He had a good view of the feeding pens from where he was, and he could see the truth of his rider's words. ...There will be others, he said doubtfully. The young ones were just fastest to arrive.

"Perhaps Hyweth likes ambition," J'nes said with a shrug. He wasn't sure Hatteth would be interested in joining the Flight no matter what he said, since the brown only joined green Flights once in a while. And never won, which seemed to discourage him all the more. But Joleen had practically asked him on a date last Gather, so he left it was only fair to try and give her dragon a little more competition for her Flight. More suitors out to make a longer Flight, which was said to make larger, stronger clutches.

Hatteth lay there a while, watching the young queen blood her kills. Whether he wanted to or not, the glowing gold hide was a beacon that few males could ignore, and Hatteth began to feel the urge to chase it. Fine, he eventually said, heaving himself to his feet. But I don't expect to get too far.

"Never know until you try," J'nes answered, though his words met empty air as Hatteth launched himself towards the pens. The brownrider shrugged and started making his way to Joleen's weyr, where the other riders would be gathering.

Hatteth did not bother to roar, boast, posture, or otherwise announce his presence as hovered near the feeding pens. He was there, he would chase, and that was all that was needed.

Ashlyn

Ashlyn was trying hard to keep her own mind clear too, reminding Gyafrith the brown was a friend of their's, one of his brothers.

He must be shown that she is mine, he does not stand a chance!Gyafrith growled into his rider's mind. Gyafrith let out a roar, letting his brother know that the gold dragon was going to be his.

"I couldn't stop mine either and I can't seem to get him to calm down. I don't even know if we are allowed to let them participate,"Ashlyn spoke to her friend, trying hard to remember the other was a friend, not some competitor to her.

Hennory's day had started off somewhat roughly. He'd caught his braid in the door that morning, and there was a general tension in the air. Halusilth was also strangely active, having taken off from his ledge to do a lazy perimeter circle twice before coming back to stand vigil.

"You are alert today." Hennory noted, pushing the riding straps he'd been polishing aside to step up next to the ponderous, pudgy blue. Already he was so large, larger than many of the fully grown blues and was still growing. Even though his 'baby fat' had never really worn off, there was a maturity to the shape of him, a bulging of muscle that had developed over the months. His head was sleek and streamlined, his eyes no longer looking too large for his head as they had when he was just a baby. He was so small that Hennory could look his dragon in the eye while he stood at his tallest. It was as if it were yesterday, really. But he had grown. They both had, both physically and mentally.

Hennory suddenly felt a little too hot in his skin, reaching out to touch Halusilth's dark, vibrant blue hide. The blue gave a low rumble.. not quite a growl. No, too laid back for that. Hennory looked up at his blue searchingly to see what was the matter only to see the violet hues lacing his facets.. and then the scream of a queen. Hennory knew it was a queen, because no green sounded quite like that.. not with the huge difference in size. Greens had a higher noise.. A gold's scream was enough to shake the very stones.

It's a nice, sunny day.

Hal… no.

I'm sorry, Hennory. I'm afraid you have little say in it.

"No!" Hennory yelled out loud, but his blue had already spread his wings, forcing Hennory to hastily step back and seek shelter within the Weyr. He swooped down off of the ledge, pulling up into the air with the grace that had seemed to surprise everyone since Halusilth had first taken to the air. He was not the fastest blue, but he rose up with the drafts, picking and choosing his route carefully while the queen powered up into the sky. A well grown brown was in the chase, as well as those he knew to be fellow Weyrlings. It seems impending adulthood was not only affecting Halusilth.

The blue seemed content to take up the tail end of the flight, swimming through the air in that strange way he could. He wasn't making any headway in the ranks, but he wasn't falling horribly behind, at least not yet. Like the mature riders, senior weyrlings were flying and practicing ranks with great intensity to prepare them to fight thread, and Halusilth was in good shape. In fact, he knew it. The blue, even in mating fever, radiated a strange sort of calm, seeming to relish the gold's emotions wafting through the draconic collective, sucking in each breath of air into his lungs as if he were gulping a fine wine. Today was such a -lovely- day.

Jasiline & Voracath

Voracath snarled as two more joined the flight. Really? More weyrlings? Not of course counting himself, Voracath was disappointed. Defeating them was no challenge. They were blues after all, maybe in a greenflight he could see them as proper rivals, but for a gold? No only HE was fit to fly her! At the very least, another brown had joined. The lack of showing for the gold was insulting. Did no other dragon in this weyr see her worth? Voracath turned his eyes once again to that golden hide that darted ahead of them.

"mmmhmmm... yeah." Jasi mumbled to Ashlyn. She was running on instinct. Dragon instinct. Subconsiously she sought out the rider of the gold dragon. With Voracath gone to chase, she would have to seek the woman out herself.

Vaguely she thought it was a bit too late to 'allow' or 'disallow' anything. Their dragons had chosen. They were old enough to feel that primal need to rise to mate.

Ashlyn

Gyafrith saw two more dragons join them and he growled at them, even if one of them was his brother as well. If anyone was going to catch that golden dragon, it would be him. He didn't care that blues usually didn't do so, he would prove to be an exception to the rule, like his rider. He turned his own attention back to the gold and got ready to catch her.

I hope you are watching, Mine, this will be a wonderful display. You just watch what happens,Gyafrith crowed in her rider's head, in a way she was not used to.

"Too hard...to block out..his emotions,"Ashlyn said, her own eyes looking for the gold's rider. She felt a need to find her.

Weyrlings?! This was an outrage! An insult! Hyweth roared protest in Gyafrith's direction. How dare a blue assume he could catch her?! She was the fastest! The greatest! Ah, there! A brown, and a well grown one at that! The gold twisted herself around and dove closer to him, teasing him. Could he keep up with her? She called out a challenge to him. This one, she decided, was the real challenge. She surged forward, pausing to match her strides with Voracath. Another Weyrling. Eh!

She rose with great speed, turning only to study those chasing her. Hm. None of these were particularly impressive. She would have to see how well they kept up with her! She bellowed out a challenge, flying into the clouds. Convinced that they would be unable to find her in the thick cloud, she hovered.

They would have to prove their ability, if they wanted her!

Hatteth

When Hyweth dove towards Hatteth, he was startled into bugling at her. Not a roar, no real challenge behind it, but it was loud enough to show he'd at least noticed her attention. And then she was off, racing up into the clouds above. The chase was on!

Hatteth did not waste breath on voicing again, or waste time and energy on looking around to check the competition. If he wanted any chance at all, he had to stay focused. He tried to spot that glowing golden hide as he followed her into the clouds.

Voracath

Voracath extended just the smallest bit of forgiveness towards the gold as she teased the older brown. She didn't know any better yet. She only favored him because he was older. Hyweth would soon learn her error though. Voracath thrummed as she passed by him, her wingbeats in time with his for a breath. His eyes glowed as she left him behind, rising high into the sky and disappearing into the puffy clouds above their heads.

He bugled, thrusting down hard with his wings and changing direction, flying near straight up towards where she had entered the cloud cover.

Ashlyn

Gyafrith watched the golden dragon as she seemed to pay attention to an older brown, snorting softly at this. Clearly she must not realize that he was the one she should be paying attention to, not some silly brown. He watched her duck into the clouds and he quickly darted up into the clouds himself.

She really doesn't think she is going to lose me, does she?Gyafrith nearly laughed in his rider's head at this.

Halusilth (Airborne) and Hennory (In his weyrling weyr)

((Rolling for this and last post))

The cacophony of snarls that met him did not phase the easy going blue, at least not overmuch. His eyes whirled a slightly redder shade of violet lust at their threats. Luckily, male dragons were typically more intent on breeding than actually fighting, so he quickly flicked a wing to put a bit more sideways distance between himself and the males. He wanted nothing to do with their bickering, more content to follow the gold up into the clouds. His wings pressed open and he hovered momentarily, gathering his bearings for a moment before coasting through the cloud cover to avoid both detection by the queen and the other males, lest they see a need to take a swipe at him. The stillness of his wings as he coasted was meant to give him a small amount of stealth, not allowing sharp and rapid wingbeats alert his presence. Instead his wings sought out he air currents, likely paths of travel, and taking note of the occasional swirl within the clouds that was possibly caused by a passing figure.

The cool vapors of the cloud cover did little to cool down Hennory's skin, which was hot and flushed red. However it wasn't his skin that had been moistened by the clouds, but Halusilth's. He knew what was happening; they'd been taught about this moment ever since the weyrling greens became old enough to potentially come into season. His blue was pulling him in, covering him in waves of calmness with a dangerous undertow of lust dragging him in. The weyr around him has hazing in and out of focus, and he was feeling drawn, compelled to meet the rider of the dragon his blue sought. Stumbling, his legs pulled him along almost of their own volition, but was stopped by a small form.

((Because I don't want to impose my own character's dramas between themselves into this flight, I will be making an alternate thread where Hennory is kept in his Weyr. Feel free to read it if you all wish; I'll update as the flight goes along. ))
