Step 1: Catching

Kirosh and Kadryn set up their traps, mostly nets and snare like traps, and waited to see what happened. But how would they catch one? Kadryn wondered. She was thinking it may have been a better idea to try and beat one senseless with a rock and take it home that way. They seemed to love creating tunnels and attack from the ground. So if they tried to bait one, it would just dig underneath and get at the bait that way. Trying to set traps in the trees was difficult. So many other things kept triggering it! The Borgnah were turning out to be quite canny! It seems like they saw the traps as an amusement and not a threat. Kirosh, on the days he was able to escape washing dishes and helping out at the Café, found the puzzle of the Borgnah fascinating. They were intelligent, both he and Kadryn decided. So training one would be easy. But catching one was turning out to be quite difficult!
At least while they were trying to figure out how to capture the Borgnah, they weren’t hunting about the farms. No more farmers had reported attacks like Avani’s family had. As long as they didn’t attack any farm animals, Kadryn could justify not killing them. Once they started hunting on the farms though, she knew she would have to start killing ad not trying to trap them. Such a waste that would be! She sighed at the thought as she picked up the remains of yet another trap triggered and ruined without capturing a Borgnah. But if they are willing to attack a Sheron, they’ll end up willing to attack a child and we can’t have that!
“Kirosh, I don’t think this tack is working.” She said as she came upon Kirosh looking at the other trap he’d set. “You sure I can’t try bashing one on the head and knocking it unconscious?”
He chuckled and shock his head. “How are you going to convince it to follow you if you attack it?”
“Well, I’ve proved I’m stronger and maybe they’ll obey me because of that?” She sighed and leaned into his shoulder. “Trying to catch something is difficult.”
Kirosh smiled and wrapped an arm about her as he kissed her cheek. “That it is. Killing is fairly easy to trying to take something alive and unharmed. But think of this as practice for your last task! It’s helping you learn to move quietly and without leaving traces behind as well as tracking.”
Kadryn smiled and stood on her tiptoes to kiss Kirosh back. “That’s why I’m not complaining too much! Plus I get to be out here with you.” Kirosh smiled gently back at her.
“Well, since today is a bust, what do you want to do? More traps?”
“Nah, let’s just go sightseeing. It’s a nice day and Uncle doesn’t need you at the Café so we have all day to ourselves.” She grinned up at him. “Unless you want to go and wash dishes?” She teased.
