Kadryn and Kirosh left that night to go hunting. Kirosh had smiled when asked, merely saying that Borgnahs were not native to this area, which meant that when threatened they would flee to a new area. If a tunnel had been destroyed, the Borgnah were intelligent enough to immediately move to a new location, knowing that a moving target would be harder to find, plus if they moved into a new area, the prey there would not be prepared to deal with them.
“While you would be at a disadvantage to finding them in the dark, Kadryn. I’m just fine. Night is the same as day to me so I should be able to find some tracks.”
Kadryn agreed as they headed out, this time on foot and riding the Hastars.
“Why bring them?”
“Because the Borgnah will sense them and come investigating. Which is why you will be flying above while I ride. If they see just one of us, and the numbers match what you say they are, then they will attack. You keep an eye above me to make sure I don’t get ambushed by anything from the trees. The Borgnah will attack from below if at all so that’s where I will be concentrating my attention.” Kadryn agreed and lead him to where she’d found the destroyed nest. Kirosh, more adept at tracking and knowing what traces the Borgnah could leave behind, found the direction they were headed in. Kadryn took to the air, a smile coming to her face as she flew just above the boughs of the trees. The moon was almost full this night with light clouds moving slowly across the skies. The air was calm and chilly, her breath steam in the air as she flew. Kadryn was an excellent night flyer, her soft large feathers not making a sound in the air. Kirosh quickly followed the trails, trusting Kadryn to do her part and keep his back safe. All night they followed the trail until Kirosh called a halt and Kadryn landed next to him. They’d come to the end of the forest, before them lay grassy plains and hills, spotted with huge boulders and lone trees.
Kirosh sighed, “They’re out there. And they know we’re here. I spotted one fleeing down into the ground when I left the forest. And I’ve counted a handful of different tracks. Unless you are willing to attack a Borgnah in it’s own tunnel with other Borgnah’s coming at us from behind then there’s nothing to do for tonight.” He glanced at Kadryn and smiled. Her eyes were glittering happily, she loved to fly at night and it showed.
“I think we’ll pull back for now. I want to catch and tame one, not kill them all. It’d be hard to tame one if I kill others in front of it right?”
“Right. We can set traps for them over the next week as we keep track of them. Though how to trap one I am unsure of.”
“We’ll think on it. Now that we know where they are, I think we can take it slowly.” Kadryn said with a smile. “We’ll use it as an excuse to get you out of dish washing every now and then!”
