+ Zachary Duffy - Father - Born the second child out of three between Clay and his third mistress, Julia, Zachary was a very extroverted soul that jumped between women just like his father. However, his ways changed when he met Lydia. She was meant to be a single hit, but she ended up as a miss when she wouldn't give in to his advances. Yet, Zachary was so charmed by her beauty that he decided to put in more effort to bed her. Finding out she was raised in a family of Wallists, he decided to feign interest in the cult's teachings, but ended up generally interested in what they had to say. Though he didn't outright convert, he believed in some of their teachings, and it was the in-depth conversations he had with Lydia that maintained their relationship and caused them to wed. Unfortunately, the teachings of the Wallists was the only item the two had in common, and the two bickered more than actually worked things out as a couple. Upon having Ruth, they had something else of importance between them, and their relationship stabilized as she grew up. When she reached her preteen years, that was when both Zachary and Lydia started pushing for their daughter to become her grandfather's favorite. Of the two, Zachary was the hardest on her and it is because of his pressure Ruth grew up with great dislike for her father. Nowadays, she does not converse with him; though she does spare a formal letter here or there to him when she's bored.
+ Lydia Duffy - Mother - Lydia grew up in a devout family of Wallists that pushed the cult's teachings onto her at a very early age. Due to this, she too became a outspoken member of their lessons and tried to spread their words to others. Her beauty caught the attention of many wandering eyes, but unless a man was a Wallist or converted into their cause, she had no interest in them. Upon meeting Zachary, she blew the male off; seeing him as another man who liked her for her looks, not mind. When he began becoming a frequent member of Wallist sermons, then did she start noticing him. She fell in love with his wit and the deep conversations they had about the cult's teachings and found this to be a good foundation to wed. Unfortunately, their shotgun wedding caused them to quarrel then find even ground. When Lydia got pregnant and gave birth to Ruth, then did their relationship start to take a turn for the better. Like Zachary, who pressured her with a want to be his grandfather's favorite, so did Lydia, but she also tacked on strict teachings of the Wallist beliefs onto the young Ruth's repertoire. Though she is heavily acquainted with their beliefs, she isn't as devout as her mother would like her to be, so their relationship is a bit strained. Lydia's hate for the military caused her to hate her daughter for running away and joining them after slipping into debt, but time has caused her to forgive her daughter's choice.
+ Clay Duffy - Grandfather - Clay was an excellent explorer during his time and rumor goes he managed to skirt out areas outside of the walls and bring back the treasures that lie there. Whether it is truth or not is highly debatable, but his expeditions did cause him to reap in treasures and money to put him high up in the nobility. Yet, his favorite place to explore was the underside of a woman's skirt, and his most talked about exploits are his sexual ones. As rumor goes again, Clay is said to have bedded more women than the king, but only kept a few around that he admired. He married his favorite, Ethel, and kept his other four mistresses around despite his wife's obvious dislike of them. It was with Julia, his third mistress, that he had Zachary. Because of his son's pressure on his daughter, Ruth was a face Clay knew well into his old age, but never seemed to remember for long. She was a "lap token" like the rest of his grands. It was only when Ruth lied and said she was part of the garrisons did she become stuck in the older man's brain. She, amongst five others, were chosen to obtain his wealth after he passed on.
+ Julia Duffy - Grandmother - Julia was Clay's third mistress after he married. She was a feisty woman that knew how to get her way with Clay and it is this reason that she became one of his personal favorites. However, it was her anger that kept her at arm's length and prevented her from becoming Clay's wife. Ruth did not have the honor of meeting Julia because her grandmother passed on before she was born. Yet, tales of her exploits exist to this day. From what she heard, Ruth highly respects the woman and how she never let anything get in her way. It is from her Ruth learned to always put herself first, no matter what.
*Why'd you joined the Garrison:
To escape the shame and debt that awaits her back in the inner walls.
*Personality:
Ruth has a high sense of self. While it may make her come off as an egoist, in actuality, it is one of the strengths she constantly tries to upkeep to prevent herself from losing hope in the middle of humanity's struggling war. She is always to put herself first in a situation to ensure her survival, shrugging off the lives of others to make sure she is one of the souls to keep living. She congratulates herself for her triumphs, rebukes herself when she feels despair, has an unshakeable pride, and knows not the meaning of shame. If Ruth even has to lie to herself to remain sensible, she will. There is no price impossible for her to pay when it comes to her sanity.
Ruth is surprisingly very forgiving despite all claims made against her. But it is less a pacifistic pursuit regarding redemption and more the fact she regularly forgets what people do to her that encourages her anger. It takes only a day for her opinion of someone to turn around from pissed off to pleasant regarding their transgressions. Yet, despite extending this to others, many don't return the favor when it comes to her own shortcomings. This is because her constant lying causes her to wittingly pass the blame onto others and leave her in the clear. She is not the most popular soul amongst the garrisons due to it.
Forced into competition amongst her cousins at a very young age, Ruth has grown up with a warped sense of relationships. She cannot trust anyone for fear of being emotionally hurt -- not even with her name. Ruth claims she is a girl named Marybelle and has constructed the facade of a hard-working, revenge hungry girl ready to avenge her parents rather than her true tale of being a run away from debt and shame from the inner walls. To upkeep her image, she pathologically lies every turn and moment in her life just to throw off blame from herself and keep everyone in the dark regarding her true persona. Though she has managed to do so successfully, it is a matter of time before the truth is known.
Before family, friends, comrades, and humans in general, money comes first. Ruth is extremely avaricious and loves the feel and sound of money within her hands. To her, money can buy happiness and so much more, despite it being the very problem that led to her current situation as a soldier of the garrisons. Even with her debt still standing, Ruth continues to purchase expensive items to satiate her greed. She is also quite a fashionista, dressing in the most expensive silks her paycheck from the military can afford. Ruth can be quite judgmental of people if their attire is not up to snuff with the latest fashions, and equally tremble in jealousy when the same goes for her.
Ruth usually recognizes people via their attributes. She passes on odd nicknames to individuals because of them -- finding those bestowals easier to remember than their birth name. A male with a piercing stare may be called Wide Eyes or a girl with a lovely simper may be called Smiley. It all depends on the person and her first impression of them. There are a select few who may weasel their way into her mind and be permanently remembered. It is these souls that matter the most to Ruth because they left a very strong impression on her; whether it be or like or dislike is questionable, but their significance to the soldier is high if they do.

*Bio:
Before Year 844
The Duffy family name started off with a fellow named Clay. A hulking brute of a man, he was an adventurer and womanizer during his youth, and managed to father a plethora of children with a clan of women. As generations do, those children went on to have children, and it was in this litter of twenty-two infants Ruth was born. Since her first breath, her life had been about competition. Clay had not only collected the sighs of women during his time, but also a vast wealth. As the man grew older and senile, his body began to wither away and he became bedridden. Realizing he did not have long to live, the original Duffy proclaimed his riches would be split amongst his grands, but only if they were worthy of it. So, for most of her life, Ruth was paraded around (as was her other cousins) to try and win the heart of her grandfather. Ruth became, as she gruffly calls now in the present, a "lap token"; Clay's favorite would lovingly be seated on him to play, earning that child points in his heart as a choice for his riches. But when he grew tired of that grand, they would be pushed off in favor of another, and the cycle would constantly rotate. While Ruth did have her fair share of grandfather-only time, she was hardly a face he recalled frequently, and she stood in the backdrop as a candidate to Clay's riches; much to her parent's dismay.
As the years went on, they were not kind to her. Ruth began to grow up with a constant fear of her surrounding cousins as competition became fierce. Bullying, teasing, and backstabbing became a norm amongst them; some of the cousins even forming packs to ensure those three or four would definitely be listed in the pecking order for Clay's money. It took an arduous effort for Ruth to even begin trusting anyone for fear she might become a victim to her other cousins' wrath. It even started extending into relationships outside of her family and she began pathologically lying to save face when she came off as suspicious.
Year 844
Since Ruth grew up within the inner walls, she was not a victim of the titans' wrath, but news traveled fast of what happened at Wall Maria. The stories of what occurred had deadly consequences to Clay after he heard of them. The shock had weakened him both bodily and mentally and, so shaken was he, his death seemed imminent. While many others showed some concern to him, most of them were waiting for his proclamation of what would go to who. Before the Duffy drew his last breath, he took his time to ask each of his grandchildren what they had achieved in their lives. Most had become quite successful during their years as young adults, becoming entrepreneurs to parents. However, Ruth did not have much to lean on because she hardly did anything with her life. When it was her turn to speak, she blurted out she had joined the military and had become a soldier of the garrisons to upkeep protection inside the walls from the terrors outside of it. Clay was taken aback by her words, but was thoroughly convinced, and flashed her a smile before going on to the next. A few of her cousins stirred both restlessly and with anger at what she said, knowing she was lying. Yet, her lie worked to her benefit.
A week later, Clay had passed on. On his will, Ruth was one of several to receive a sixth of her grandfather's profits. She whooped with glee with her parents upon finding out at his will's reading. For several months, Ruth lived a lavish life with her money; eating and dressing expensively to suit her tastes. She even became acquainted with the king, but she wasn't "important" enough to be invited to one of his secret soirees. Yet, like all good things, her high life came to an end when she spent all of her funds. Amongst the nobility, she went from a somebody to a nobody because of the substantial debt she had collected. For fear of their words and what would happen to her next, the girl ran, and began life anew in the only area that came to mind: the military.
Year 845
After some difficulty, Ruth managed to graduate in rank ten amongst her class. While she lacked strength, her litheness propelled her high when it came to the titan dummy test. Though she had a shot at the Military Police, she turned down the offer for favor of the garrisons because of fear of returning to the inner walls. Since then, she had been hanging out on top of Wall Rose under the name Marybelle. She had even made up a past to go with the name, claiming she her parents were killed by falling debris when the titans attacked and that she felt it was her need to avenge their death by being a soldier and doing what she can. Though cliche, it flies over the heads of most.
