Kadryn had gone home with her family.. and Kirosh had been kidnapped by them as well. Tarlon had a very keen eye and had noticed their feelings for one another... So, in typical blunt Uncle fashion, he'd decided to have Kirosh get to know the family and let Kadryns mother get used to him so that when she did find out about their relationship to halt any freaking on her part. Kadryn was vastly amused by this... a little concerned, but most amused by Kirosh's reaction... Uncle Tarlon was a very open minded individual with a strange sense of humor so she knew he'd make sure Kirosh was fine... though he'd feel put upon at the end probably!.
As they were going home, they heard rumors of farms getting raided at night by something. Animals were going missing and no one could find any bodies... Dragons left bodies behind, this creature did not. No traces were left behind, though some claimed that they saw something spindly take off with a Sheron. Because Kadryn was mostly lazying about home playing with her new baby sister, her parents decided this would be something to get her out of the house for a bit. They loved having her over of course! But they decided she needed to do something constructive. So off they sent her, telling her to go help their farming neighbors. Kirosh, poor Kirosh, was still being held hostage by her uncle and being used as someone to help in the kitchen: he would be left behind.
Not loathe to go hunting at all, Kadryn set off, her large dark grey wings making very little sound as she flew, the thick soft feathers silent on the wind.

Avani stood where she had before whitnessed the massacre of one of her Papa's sheron. The difference was, Livi was wherever he called home, and this time, no remains were left where the sheron had once stood. Her Papa stood away from her with a ranch hand talking. The hand had been in charge of watching in the night, Papa having put guards on the heard since Livi's little snack break. Of course, Avani never had told Papa what had happened. She wouldn't be allowed to roam as freely as she did had he known. She sighed. Such was the life of a farmer, particularly of those with herd animals. At least the crops were going well enough. The winter cleanup had long been done and the fields were being plowed as they spoke. Rice and wheat planing on being grown, one of each in two fields. But at the moment, all the ranch hand had to go by was: "It was very large, very dark, and very, very silent." Avani looked to the sky pondering what could have done this and saw something, or someone, coming towards them. She wondered who or what it was.

As she flew, Kadryn kept an eye out for farms below, trying to see if which one it was that her parents had told her to go help. She saw a farm spread below her and some figures out, swooping down lower she spotted a mauled Sheron with some figures about it. If this isn't the farm I was supposed to go to, looks like it is a a farm that got attacked. Might as well go and talk with them! She flared her wings and took a slow dive down so that the people would see her coming in. She landed and pulled her goggles off her face to rest on her head, helping to hold back her unruly wavy hair. "Hello there, are you the farm that got attacked by something? I've been sent to hunt down whatever it was if that carcass is the result of some night time critter's snack. I'm Kadryn, from Hot Springs Village near here." She said with a smile. Her mace, the handle almost as long as she was tall, swung gently from its sling in along her back as she furled her wings.

Avani watched as her Papa smiled and offered his hand to the tall woman who had flown up to them, "My name is Talmei, this is Haloi one of my hands," he then nodded over to Avani, "This is my girl Avani. Pleased to meet you." After the greetings were exchanged, her father went on explaining about how some of his herd was missing, however, Avani was more interested at the moment in the large weapon that the newcomer Kadryn had hanging from her sling. Though she did blush a little and felt guilty when her papa explained that it mystified him how one attack out of the several had signs of a different mauling, and was attacked during the day. Avani also was intrigued by Kadryn's large black wings. Her own small wings popped out, and she compared them to Kadryn's and sighed. She wanted to fly like she saw Kadryn do so much. Her attention turned to the mace again and she eyed it trying to see if she could lift it, but she knew it was futile, she was small after all, so instead: "How much does that mace weigh?" she said interrupting the conversation. She saw her Papa's questioning look. She cowed a little knowing that he was silently rebuking her for interrupting. But he then smiled, chuckled a little and said to Kadryn, "My Avani, always asking questions!"

Apple Blossom19 Kadryn's actually quite small, only 5'2" :3 Kadryn listened intently as the man explained the attacks. One was different and she did notice that the child looked kinda shifty as he explained this. Wonder what she knows but isn't telling? It wasn't as important, since the child was okay so what ever she knew didn't scare her. She did her best to not smile or laugh as she watched the girl out of the corner of her eye. The tyke's feelings on her small wings was quite visible! Kadryn had always been small for her size with over large wings.. so she'd been able to fly at a young age so she hadn't had too much time to be sighing over her inability to fly. She did laugh though when the girl asked her question. "Heavy! The head's solid metal so probably heavier than you are right now." She said with a grin. "It started out lighter and smaller so I could actually wield it when I was younger, but it's grown over the years and gotten longer, heavier and spikier!" She was quite proud of her mace, it wasn't anything fancy, unlike some Imprinted weapons she'd seen. It was a simple long rod with minimal dragon claw designs at the ends with a huge spiked ball on one end that was stark in it's lack of decor. She liked to think it was like her soul, simple yet deadly. She turned back to the father, "Well it's not a dragon nor any of the hunting cats we have about here. Those leave noticeable claw marks in their prey... Could be an Oralrik but I don't think so. They don't wander this far away from water. I've seen some signs like this before on Ayr... but they were from Borgnah's and they don't live here... or at least I've never heard of anyone running into one here." The Borgnah preferred to burrow and the land about here had too many roots for them to effectively burrow.. right?

Avani smiled as she heard about the mace, not that she would ever use one. She was sill looking it over and about to try to gently touch one of the spikes to see what it was like, when she heard the word "Borgnah". She froze, her hand just above the mace and then looked up at her papa who seemed to be thinking something out while looking out into the fields. He then looked seriously to Kadryn, "From what I remember of what happened when I was little on a neighboring farm, and what I have read of em, it seems to fit..." He took his hat off and threw it on the ground and said out loud, "Well, blast it all..." He turned an eye to Kadryn, "You sure it looks like they are around here? We have Bognotti around here, but they tend to keep to the forests and foothills."Avani shuddered just thinking of a spider as large as Papa coming within running distance of the house, not to mention of the ones the size of a head. She hated even the small long legged ones that did nothing but sit in their webs. "Please say there are no Borgnah's around here..." she said looking up at Kadryn, she shuddered again, "I really hate spiders...."Avani ran over to her Papa and held tight to him as she tried to calm down. Though he wasn't helping by chuckling at her... She just really, really, really hated spiders.

Kadryn smiled, too cute! " There might be a Borgnah around.. might. Not gonna rule it out, but I'm going to go hunt it down, so you don't have to worry about it being around here for much longer." She said with a smile to the orange haired child. Looking back to the father she shook her head. "Bognotti are too small to do this type of damage. They go for rodents and insects mostly. You'd need something rather large to take on a Sheron. Welp." She stretched and flared her wings once more, " I'll try and track this thing down. If I can't find it today, Ill bring back a hunting friend of mine who's in town. He's a bit more experienced but is... preoccupied right now." She grinned, he was too busy washing dishes and being teased by her uncle and would probably relish the idea of escaping and hunting something down, but Kadryn wanted to try this on her own first.

Avani watched as Kadryn streched out her wings, all thoughts of the gigantic spiders fleeing from her mind. She couldn't wait to get her wings! Then Avani saw the look on her father's face, she knew he was bothered by the thought of the pest taking his stock. She looked down and thought how she had lied about Oblivion and his eating of the one Sheron. She then thought about how she needed to be responsible to the farm as well. "I'm going too." she said stepping out from behind her father. She looked from her father to Kadryn and then to her father and then down to the ground. "I just wanna help... I need to learn how to protect things... even stupid sheron........"She looked to her father and he had that look on his face that was questioning her, then he looked up to Kadryn. "I don't mind as long as Kadryn doesn't" he smiled and shrugged, "What can I say, she has sway over me at times." He then looked at Avani sternly and said, "Mind you do as she says with no arguing."Avani smiled and said, "I will!" she then tampered it down a bit and got shy again. She peeked at Kadryn and said, "If you don't mind that is...."

Kadryn gave Avani an encouraging smile. " Of course I don't mind! And if it helps you confront your fears and learn, than you should definitely join." She looked to the father, "I'll keep her safe and if it looks to dangerous will bring her straight back." With that she motioned for Avani to come over to her. "First things first: the tracks. There's some about the carcass if you look close enough." She pointed them out to Avani . "Might as well learn them now that way if you see them again you know what it is." The tracks were more like small puncture marks in the ground. They were mostly about the body, though a few could be seen leading away. "Those were made by spider like limbs that don't have any paws or feet, which is why I'm thinking Borgnah. Bognotti make the same mark, but they're much smaller." Trotting off she followed the marks, entering the forest. As they went along, she pointed out the few signs that a large creature had passed this way. The slightly crushed leaves on bushes, puncture marks of the tracks, as well as a few drops of blood every now and then. "Looks like the Sheron didn't go down with out a fight," Kadryn said as they spotted yet another drop. "I thought it was just remnants from its eating, but these are happening too frequently for that. Make's it easier for us!"

Avani followed Kadryn into the forest. She didn't mind going with someone who knew what they were doing. She took interest in the signs of what was different for a Borgnah from a Bognotti. She would have to get some paper and pencils to sketch out the different signs later. It would be good to have a reference. She also paid attention to the tracking as well. Sue would be jealous Avani got to help hunt down something so rare and wasn't told about it! But she wouldn't leave her friend hanging, and would try to tell her all about it. Even the minute details! She was surprised when she heard that a sheron would put up a fight. "Sheron's can put up a fight? I thought they didn't really care about anything but food..."At least the sheron did something with it's life: making it easier for her and Kadryn to find that Borgnah!

Apple Blossom19 I feel like killing the Borgnah now XD Kadryn chuckled, "Of course Sheron can fight! They're actually pretty dangerous if you end up in a stampede or cornered by a bull. They have mass on them.... though getting one to attack is very difficult since they're such wimps. All animals can and will fight if cornered." Kadryn noticed the blood trail was now hitting leaves and getting sparser... though they hadn't dried up yet. The borgnah was close. "It's moved to the trees. From here on out, stay on my back; I'll be flying to catch up to it. It's close now." She said as she hoisted Avani up between her wings. Un-slinging her mace, she held it in her hand. "My mace's baldric should give you something to hold on to." With that, she gave a strong thrust of her wings, stirring up the dirt as she jumped from the ground. Her soft fluffy feathers were built for silent flight, though the extra weight on her back was slightly throwing her off, Kadryn managed to fly silently enough through the trees. She grinned as she spotted a dark shape with spindly legs scampering through the trees in front of her. Seeing it, she knew that it was in truth a borgnah. Shaped like a bognotti with far thicker body and legs, it was covered in thick spiky hair and moved just as silently as Kadryn. She grinned flapped her wings to gain speed and height, so she could attack from above. Whirling her mace she waited until she was only a few meters from it before flaring her wings and slinging her mace at it. She stopped to transfer all her momentum to her mace, giving it extra strength. It hit with a sickening thud where the head met the abdomen. The spikes punctured deep, splattering the surrounding branches as the borgnah shivered and its legs curled inwards as it died. "There. One dead borgnah with a quick clean kill." Kadryn said with a smile as she dropped down to land on a branch next to it.

robot kitten Quite fine cat_3nodding Just so graphic xD I really hate spiders >.> Avani obeyed Kadryn as she lifted her on her back, and nodded silently. Sueno always said trackers needed quiet when they were near their prey. Avani held in a squeal of fear as she saw the beast's image in front of Kadryn, yet kept her head high as they flew nearer. She then held on a little tighter as Kadryn began her kill, not wanting to fall or anything, yet not hindering the woman as she used her mace. Avani watched as the mace hit the borgnah in the neck... well if it had one... Avani lowered herself from Kadryn's back and looked at the dead animal as Kadryn stood on the branch next to it. She stayed close to Kadryn... just in case. She covered her nose with a kerchief and scrunched her face. "Smells worse than a Sheron... Should have known it wasn't a Khehora or anything like that..." Avani would have to sketch the beast and add it to her farming notebook. Things that threatened the herds were just as bad as small pests that threatened crops, even weeds... There was a lot to this farming thing wasn't there? Avani looked up at Kadryn and said, "At least it's not gonna take anymore Sheron." she looked back to the beast and said, "What do we do with it now?"

Apple Blossom19 XD Sorry! I don't like spiders either, but reading about them doesn't bother me :3 It's seeing them! Khehora? Had they been raided by Khehora in the past? Well, if they had, she wouldn't hunt those ones down. She rather liked Khehora! "Oh, just leave it be! It'll feed some scavengers and I don't have any use for a dead Borgnah really. It's a waste, but it did attack the farms about here, so it had to be killed before it took too many far animals. I'll grab that hunting friend of mine and take him with me to see if there are any more Brognah about. There shouldn't be since they aren't even supposed to be on Serenia… but who knows? Come on, I'll fly us back." She said with a grin as she grabbed her mace and cleaned it off before holding a hand out for Avani to grab. It was wasteful to leave it behind, and normally she wouldn't have hunted an animal only to leave a dead body behind, but this one had attacked the farms, which meant it would continue to do so until killed. After all, farms had the penned up animals that were docile and couldn't run away, what creature wouldn't want an almost free meal?

Avani nodded, "Yeah there could be more if it had a nest..." She shuddered a bit and placed her hand into Kadryn's. She looked up at her and said, "I don't know about Papa or Mama, but I do know I would like to show you some sort of thanks for doing this for us... well for at least the farmer's in the area. If you need anything from our farm, just come see me and I'll get you what ever you need." she nodded her head, and then scrambled back up onto Kadryn's back giving the Borgnah one last look. It would not be difficult to sketch the Borgnah for her journal. It was just a large spider. But she knew she needed to find a way to protect her father's farm, and Nix was too small. She was resolved now to help her parent's more than ever now she knew the real threats of raising livestock. Being a farmer was hard work! But it seemed to be worth it in the end.

Kadryn settled Avani to a more comfortable position on her back before taking a running leap into the air. "Well, that's sweet of you! Thank you." She said with a pleased smile. "Maybe I'll take you up on that! I'm thinking of settling down and may need some help learning to grow things! Ot that I'll give up hunting completely, but still. A garden would be good." They soon came back to the farm and Kadryn waved at Avani's farmer. "That Sheron of yours managed to wound the Borgnah so it didn't get too far and was easily tracked it turned out. That one is dead though there may be more so I'll gather a few friends and hunt them down tomorrow!" She knelt to let Avani off her back. "If you need more hunting help, my Uncle at the Windy cafe in town is a hunter. Retired mostly, but I'm sure he'd enjoy the occasional hunt." She smiled at Avani and fluffed the girls hair. "If I do need help learning to garden I'll come back!" She waved a goodbye as she ran off to fly home once more. I'll have to tell the other farmer's about here that there may be Borgnah's, she thought to herself. Or maybe I'll do that tomorrow when Kirosh and I set out.
