After seeing the Borgnah and the intelligence in its eyes, Kadryn had this irrational urge to have one. It was smart, fast, silent… Hadn’t Kirosh wanted another pack animal? Why not just make the hastar she was riding the pack animal and ride the Borgnah? It was large enough…. She grinned as she slipped into some clothes and quietly opened the door. She and Kirosh were both staying at the Windy Café since there wasn’t much room at her parents place for both of them. They weren’t sharing a room, which Kadryn was disappointed and yet relieved at the same time as she wasn’t sure she was ready to go to the next stage in her very new relationship with Kirosh. She slunk outside and stretched happily in the chill morning. It was still winter, but most of the snow had melted in a semi warm spell. The sun was still asleep as Kadryn unfurled her large wings and settled her mace and bag on her back. She was going to go and see if she could catch a Borgnah! She knew where a nest of them were after hunting the one that had been preying on farms so she thought she’d look there to see if she could find one out alone.
She landed in a tree near the area. She knew the Borgnah was a tunneling spider. They relied upon speed and surprise to catch food and not webs. But their webs were strong, even though they weren’t sticky, so she had to be careful. Quietly slinking from tree to tree, she kept a wary eye out for the tail tale signs of open patches in the undergrowth. The lairs of the Borgnah tended to get patches of clear vegetation caused by them burrowing and constantly opening their trap doors. She finally came to one… but the top was caved in. She sighed in disgust. Someone had gotten here before her! A dragon by the look of it. She peered over the edge and saw the signs of sharp claw marks and the gouged out remains of the tunnel entrance. Guess this one tried to eat a dragon… or Khehora. Probably Khehora, she thought with a smile. Those claw marks are too small for a dragon. I guess the borgnah is large enough to take on a Khehora… but this one wasn’t so lucky and got eaten instead!
She headed back home in the early morning light, hunning softly to herself as she enjoyed the feeling of the sun on her face and wind on her wings. I wish I could share this with Kirosh, but he can’t fly yet.. Though he did mention that the strongest of his people got a third eye and wings… She giggled at the picture it brought up. The third eye was an odd thing to think up. But apparently it could actually see like her eyes, so maybe it was a good thing? If it let him actually see colors? She smiled and waved at Kirosh who was opening his window as she landed.
