A day away from family was a marvelous one, indeed.
How quickly life changed in a year. One minute you're content with what you've been given and never take a moment to complain about what you don't have, and the next...you've got more than you could ever ask for. That's the way that life was shaping up for the now much older, and somewhat wiser stallion. Years of heartbreak and disaster had taught him to be happy with what you've got, and nothing more...and yet, life continued to throw curve balls at him. He was just a simple stallion, he always thought, who had children with mares who never quite cared enough, and then raised only half the children...on his own. He had his daughter who lived with him full time, and then a plentiful of grandchildren that visited on occasion. And all of that was just enough. He wanted nothing more, nothing less. It was perfect.
But...those curve balls kept coming.
First his sister, whom he didn't even know existed, showed up one day and announced that they were related. While happiness flowed from the pair, Bliss couldn't believe that his life had gotten this far. From struggling to maintain structure and raise an impossible daughter, to living well and happy....and now, with a sister. What was once a life that couldn't get better, got better indeed.
And again, the curve balls kept coming.
Evelyn, his 'one that got away' came back into his life. And he...fell in love even more than he could have imagined. He could be happy, with children, with a sister and now...with love. What did he do in his simple little life that deemed him worthy of all of this? He never...he never helped someone...did he? He never...did good? Did he? All he ever remembered doing was trying to survive in a world he always thought was too big for him.
Whatever it was he did to deserve all of this, he was certainly thankful for. But now, at this very moment, he needed some time away. He loved everything he had in his life, but every so often he enjoyed the quiet nature of life, and so he ventured out of the groove he created for those he loved, and decided to take a walk. To where? Well, that was undecided, but he'd walk for as long as he wanted to. Just well, because he could.
The day was pleasant, and as quiet as could be. There was no telling what was in store for those who ventured out.

So many things to see, so many things to smell, so many thins to touch and taste and hear and experience! It was so very exciting, Sibbi thought, and so very riveting! Only a few days ago, she had been cooped up in the cave she called home, only going outside on short little jaunts as she got the hang of running about on her gangly little legs. Outside was so vast, and so exciting, and there was obviously so much to do! She wanted to experience all of it right now, and it was only the extreme unfairness of the world that could prevent her from doing so!
Though she loved her parents with all her heart, she couldn't contain her enthusiasm when Papa Safi had told Daddy Duo that he thought it would be ok for Sibbi to start seeing more of the world. As she was a young filly, her parents had been cautious in her outings thus far, both in terms of not wanting to overtire her young body or overstimulate her young mind. For that matter, they didn't want to overtire themselves too quickly, either; childhood could last a long time, after all!
Safi hadn't realized that Sibbi was listening to their conversation, or he might have been more precise in his wording. Little pitchers have always had big ears, and from his experience raising his first two daughters, he only too well knew this to be true. However, he had thought Sibbi was asleep and neglected to state what he and Duo both took for granted; that it was ok for Sibbi to start seeing more of the world, with supervision. It had crossed neither stallion's mind to allow their small daughter to get out and explore on her own.
However, Sibbi saw no problem with that, and had been excited to seize the opportunity. After a grazing breakfast, she had skipped away to take advantage of this lovely new 'permission' with neither of her parents noticing...at first.
~~~
But she had no idea that she might be causing anxiety or fear; for Sibbi, the day was young, and the world was her oyster. She danced along the gently sloping hillsides, poking her nose under every rock and tree root, calling out greetings to everything living she saw. "Good morning, Mister Bluebird! Good morning, Mister Squirrel! Good morning, Mister Stallion!" This last was directed at the dark-coated stallion who was walking along at a much slower pace than either she herself, the bird, or the squirrel. Indeed, he was being downright poky in comparision! But then, he probably didn't have a whole new world to see for the first time!
