Viktor's eyes drooped, and his dull teeth scraped around the small patch of clovers at his hooves. What should have been flavorful mouthfuls, were bland and unsatisfying. He spat out the remaining clovers and lifted himself to his full height. How long had it been since he'd been able to enjoy anything? Was he even meant to enjoy life with his condition? His... his curse.
Taking a few gulps of water from the stream to his left, Viktor avoided his reflection's eyes. Sighing, he shook himself out and turned to head back to his cave. It seemed like it would be yet another dull day for the cursed half-Cerynei.

Mest's hooves beat against the ground as he galloped through the forest as fast as his tired body could manage. He was following his instincts. He was going home. All of the lies that had been shoved down his throat were finally purged from him with the return of his memories. He was awful. The things he did were despicable. He could never forgive himself or the mare and stallion that had so thoroughly destroyed his trust and his heart.
The hulking stallion skidded to a stop suddenly. This was it. His golden eyes scanned the surroundings. His mind briefly flashed back to the chaotic bloody scene that this field had once been, and he winced. Time seemed to have washed the field of it's horrid past, maybe it could do the same for him.
He began walking through the clearing, towards his old home. He would live out the rest of his days in that cave, remembering his true love, Uzor, and trying to repent for all of the innocents he had killed.

Viktor plopped down at the entrance to his cave. The sun had not even set and he was already done with his day. He let loose a long sigh. This was the life he was meant to have. No interaction with anyone. No enjoyment. Nothing. Isolation was the only way he could live without hurting others with his curse, and if he had to suffer to save the lives of others then it was all worth it. This was - what was that?
His ears perked, and he could hear a faint rustling in the trees. He shrugged it off and rose up to walk farther back into the cave to settle down for a nap. Small animals often wandered this way and he had not once encountered another Soquili in this area. The clearing and it's surroundings seemed to be cursed, just like him. Chalking the noises up to curious animals, he allowed his eyes to close.

Mest paused at the entrance of the cave and squinted into the darkness. With the sun still high in the sky, he was able to glimpse a large horse-sized lump. Was there... was there someone in his cave? Could it be that... had Uzor survived and waited for him in the place that they had spent many a night? A small flicker of hope ignited and he rushed into the cave.
"UZOR!"✹ ✹ ✹ Viktor instinctively surged to his hooves, nearly smacking his head against the cave ceiling. He whipped his head back and forth looking for the source of the shout and suddenly the cave was completely engulfed in darkness and two golden eyes were drilling holes into him. Viktor suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of claustrophobia as it seemed that the stallion in front of him took up almost the entire cave.
"This is my home," he gasped as his tail brushed the back of the cave wall. "I don't know who you are or what you want, but you need to leave!" ✹ ✹ ✹ Mest fought to keep the crushing disappointment from appearing on his face, but he doubted that he was successful. Who was he kidding? Uzor was dead. His delicate, little Uzor would have never survived the attack - especially if Mest had been incapacitated. Mest let out a heavy sigh and backed away slightly. He wasn't going to hurt anyone innocent anymore.
"This is my home," he murmured. "These lands were my herd's lands. This cave was mine.... I'm Mest,"
Mest caught himself staring at the stranger's eyes, noticing how they continued to widen impossibly... but also noticing a certain familiarity. He narrowed his own eyes, trying to place the unique color. But eye color was not important. The real matter of importance was why this stallion was in his cave. All he wanted to do was waste away in peace. Mest's eyes flicked down to assess the stallion further, and was shocked to find him severely malnourished and bony.
"Are you sick?" he questioned.

Viktor bristled. First this large stallion was up in his face, and now he was claiming the cave to be his and asking personal questions. He needed to leave now, before the curse got him too.
"I've been here for two years now - where have you been?" he squinted his silver eyes up at Mest. "And I'm Viktor. I'm not... sick, I'm cursed. Cursed to be alone and miserable forever,"✹ ✹ ✹ Mest continued to back away slightly, giving the stallion more space. He leaned against the wall of the cave and allowed Viktor to speak.
"Heh, it seems you and I share the same curse," Mest mused, thinking back on his agonizing years. His lost love, the manipulation, the loss of his innocent daughter - the list went on and on. "I was... otherwise occupied," ✹ ✹ ✹ Viktor's eyes narrowed and he fought the urge to stomp his hoof.
"I'm not kidding, I'm really cursed. My herd fell ill, and I left so that I wouldn't hurt anyone... I... I don't want to hurt anyone," he said sadly. "Please leave, before it gets you too,"✹ ✹ ✹ Mest let out a sigh and flopped onto the cave floor.
"I wouldn't mind catching your curse. I don't have much to live for at the moment," he mumbled. "But this is my cave, and you can either share it with me or leave," he challenged. There wasn't much fight in his voice, but he wasn't going to leave, and he sure as hell doubted that this sickly stallion could move him an inch from his position on the ground. ✹ ✹ ✹ Viktor stared wide-eyed at the big oaf that had decided to invade his space and ruin his isolation. He was torn between being very angry... and surprisingly very relieved. Company, although frustrating and potentially suicidal in this case, was something that he hadn't had in such a long time. Any interaction at all was a blessing. Even now, despite the circumstances, Viktor was feeling happier.
But Mest didn't need to know that.
"Fine," he spat. "You can stay." FIN
