Undine stood looking out at the ocean, the waves lapping at her hooves. It had been a rather strange winter so far, the temperature fluctuating between normal winter temps and summer temps. She sighed softly to herself glad that at least the ocean was forever constant. Waves come in, waves go out, it was peaceful and relaxing. Just what she needed after the at times stressful year that had just passed.

Deciding to enjoy the warm morning as much as possible she started walking down the beach. The wet sand gave way under her hooves leaving hoof prints behind. Noticing the prints she giggled and started to zigzag her path, doubling back every once in a while. Anyone trying to follow her would have to work to figure out which path was the real one. Not that she expected anyone to follow, this beach seemed to be one of the less known ones.

As she played in the sand all her worries and fears faded away, she was having fun, something the often to serious mare rarely did. The wind carried her laughter along the beach as if it wanted everyone to share in her delight.

Yvain had been traveling far from the ocean for a while, gathering as much food as he could find in this lean winter. He had a pack around his neck with as many riches as he could find from the interior: apples, winterberries, some dried green leaves, hay, and mushrooms. Seaweed was fine and all, but he had grown tired of the same day in and day out. The grass and weeds that grew along the beach were tough and hard to digest.

But, while he could maneuver on land just find, he couldn't stay away from the ocean for too long. His heart began to yearn for the warm lapping of the waves around his hooves. He loved the way the waves rolled off his scales...

As he approached the beach he saw a beautiful mare running along the sand...there was a joy to her movements, like she was experiencing some kind of release.

Undine grew tired of playing and stopped to once more stare out at the ocean. She lifted her head and took a deep breath of pure ocean air. She loved the smell of the ocean, there was just something about it you couldn't find anywhere else. A sudden breeze blew her mane everywhere causing her to sigh, it would take her two-legger hours to get all the tangles out.

Shaking her head in an attempt to settle her mane back in place she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Surprised she turned to look. She cocked her head to the side as she regarded the... was that a kelpie? She had never seen one before.

Yvain found himself entranced by the mare, and he just openly stared at her. His mother would have been disappointed in him and his lack of manners; she had raised him to know how to act like a true gentleman, and openly staring at a mare was not very polite!

Unlike many Soquili, Yvain had the great fortune of being raised with little drama by two happy and well adjusted parents. His mother was an eternal optimist, and his father was a romantic and noble stallion. Even though she was a kelpie and he was a unicorn, they loved each dearly. This is why Yvain felt just as comfortable on land has he did in the seas; he was a child of both worlds.

But yet, despite his best efforts here he was...slack jawed and instantly twitterpated by this lovely mare on the beach. Indeed, he didn't noticed the tangles in the mane, or how long it would take to comb out. He didn't notice the little bits of sand caked into her fur at her feet or anything like that. All he saw as this stunning mare who looked as though the Spirits had painted all the most beautiful things about the ocean into the soul of one mare.

Her fur was glistening white at the base, something that reminded him of the foams of the waves. Her long mane and tail were woven like the colors of the sea iteself; blues and greens and every color in between. And over her wave like pattern in her coat was a sparkling blue markings... subtle, yet stunningly beautiful at he same time. The also reminded him of the waves, and the palm trees, and the fight patterns of the seagulls all at the same time!

Was she a kelpie like her mother? Certainly not fully - she was missing the kepie tail. instead, however, she had something even more unique and lovely - a fan of scales and flowed over her backside like a dress. Fishlike would have been a disservice to say.... instead that seemed to remind Yvain of dolphins as they crested over the waves. Maybe she as like him - a child of both the wolds. Surely he couldn't be the only one who had parents' whose love could break the boundary of the land and sea?

The silver of her jewelry was the pearl of the clam... it shimmered in the sunlight and seemed to almost cast a halo of sparkles around the mare as it caught on the droplets of water that splashed up with the waves.

should he talk to her? Indeed, was even even worthy of speaking to her?

"H..hello..." he finally said softly, after several minutes it took him to garner the courage. It suddenly felt like he had a lump in his throat the size of a beach ball. What was he suppose to say? Hi, I saw you there and you were so beautiful I just wanted to see if I even had the bravery needed to speak to you? He took a deep, shuddering breath before offering her the most pleasant smile he could muster up.

To many Soquili, Yvain was funny looking; with weird thick mane and tail and landed somewhere between hair and find. His fur was short and thick, similar to that of an otter; it repelled water and cold well. Like her, Yvain had ear fins and fins on his back; though not as artful as hers.
