Everyone was so bland these days, Mardi reflected with a sigh. It had always been a challenge for the mare to find any other Soquili with as energetic a sense of self as she herself possessed, but as of late things seemed to have taken a downward spiral even more pronounced. It was almost enough to make Mardi herself fall victim to the depression that choked the region, which was saying something. It was against every grain in her body to be depressed; from her sunny coat to her sunny disposition, Mardi was a mare of positivity.

Honestly, she didn't see what the big deal was. Granted, there had been some dark times lately in the region. Mardi had even gone so far as to leave the area in light of the brutal fighting which seemed to replace racing as the physical outlet of choice for a large amount of the population. She hadn't really understood what was going on; serious matters had never weighed heavily on her, and were only important insofar as they affected socialization and fun. From other Soquili, she had learned there were dangerous Soquili about who wanted to kill, though she never managed to understand why it was they wanted to kill. Honestly, if they were bored it seemed like there were a lot safer, tidier, and more entertaining options available!

But just because she didn't understand didn't mean she felt any compunction to fix that. Deciding that any Soquili inclined to violence was outside of her wheelhouse, she simply moved on from the area, leaving all of the combatants far behind. It was frustrating to have to uproot herself yet again, but the Soquili in the 'danger zone' were awfully dull anyway. All they wanted to talk about was the Kalona, or hiding...so tedious! Couldn't people keep themselves safe and still have fun?

It would appear that the answer to that question was no, which was leaving Mardi feeling almost mutinous. What was a fun-loving mare to do?

For now, she was trying to be patient. She'd heard there was a large lake further south, with a Kawani village and a lot of Soquili nearby. Granted, the area was more exposed than she was used to, but the open meadowlands just ought to make it that much easier for her to see other Soquili and for them to see her. She would just have to keep her eyes peeled as she ambled along, and if nothing else, there was always the lake itself for interest. Perhaps it had mermaids, or some other interesting sort of creature living in it? She wasn't much of a swimmer, but she loved wading and that was almost the same thing...

Colby loved absolutely everything about this place. He had only been in these lands for a very short amount of time but already he had decided he never wanted to go anywhere else ever again. He had seen so many gorgeous ladies already that his mind had to be made up. A fool, Colby was not. Sure, he had many different aspects of himself that needed to be dealt with but foolishness was not on that last. Not truly. The lake had seemed to beckoning him to come and play in it’s freezing depths so Colby had followed his heart, and wings and landed on the edge ready for whatever would come his way. So long as whatever coming his way was happened to be gorgeous mare that was absolutely stacked… Whatever stacked meant. The cliché about loving all types of women in all different sizes fit Colby to T. Old, Young, Fat, Slim, Tall, Short, and everything else they could possibly be did not deter him in the least. They were all so lovely, all so very worth talking and getting to know. Having come from a place where mares were few and far between and those that were around were kept essentially under lock and key by their family, Colby was in a bit of a sensory overload and all the cuties roaming free as if they didn’t have a worry in the world.

Winter was also a bit of a curiosity.. the snow was cold and rather unpleasant in his opinion… but the beauty that it left in his wake made it hard for Colby to complain. The temperature right now was definitely sending mixed signals for him… The snow was on the ground and yet the water did not have ice and the ground where there was not snow was muddy… He had always figured that if there was snow, there had to be ice… and that if the first two were around then mud wouldn’t be something to worry about.

Bah, what was the point in complaining? It was just nice to be kind of warm-ish.

Now what would cause him to complain would be if some pretty little bit of lovely didn’t stumble upon him soon. Then his day would quite possibly be completely wasted. Straining his eyes, looking to see if anybody was nearby with a bright enough pelt that he would actually be able to see someone Colby couldn’t help but feel a jolt of excitement when a bit of yellow was far far away. Okay, not that far but whatever it was wasn’t right next to him to provide some fun. Lord, people around here weren’t very social… one would think that he had managed to stumble upon a war zone or something like that. Buzzkills.

Nothing, nothing, nothing...it was not an inspiring quest so far, Mardi would be the first to admit. Where was everybody? Yes, it was a bit dampish and muddy, and yes, the snow on the ground was on the wet and sloppy side, but was that really any reason for everyone to be in hiding? It was a natural part of the winter to have unpleasant weather, after all; if it was spring, it would be raining on them, and if it was summer they'd all be dying of heat stroke! Really, she would have hoped the local Soquili were made of sterner stuff...

Wait a moment, hold that thought. A light at the end of the tunnel, in the form of one noble soul actually out and about for her conversational pleasure! This was quite lovely, hurrah for them, whoever they were! With almost palpable eagerness, she changed her direction in order to head straight towards the mane which had first caught her attention. It wasn't nearly as bright as she herself, but the pink and dark and...curliness stood out quite nicely from the snow around it, as well as from the Soquili themself. Gosh, but she was pale!

'She', Mardi had first assumed, because of the elaborate coiffure of curls. Really, it was enough to make the yellow mare, with her simple windblown mane and tail, feel like quite the bumpkin! But as she got closer, she realized that she had been jumping the gun a bit when it came to guessing the gender. Realizing it was, in fact, a stallion, her first greeting to him was a merry burst of laughter. Too funny! Indeed, she didn't know which was funnier; the fact she had been so very wrong in her assessment, or the fact the stallion was sporting a hairstyle that seemed so very...well, feminine. But amused as she might be, it never once occured to her to judge.
