The storm didn't let up. It kept getting stronger and noisier. Otto laid in his King size bed with a pillow over his head, just trying to block the noise. After an hour or so, he gave up. Instead he laid on his back, staring out the window as his head tilted to the side. The storm was hard to see at night, but the lightning strikes made the whole room flash with fright. In fact, Otto remembered then why he'd been trying to block it out.

He hated storms. They were a little scary, and very unnerving. Too many times they'd caused terrifying power outages when he was a child, exposing him to the darkness of a lightless bedroom.

Another sudden blast came, but this time it came with shattering glass. He screamed at the scare, scurrying away from the side of the bed that was closest to that wall. Wind and rain were blasting inside his bedroom. His heart raced painfully in fear from the scare.

"s**t!!!"

Otto leapt out of bed to grab his shoes. Surveying the window, all the while getting rained on in the process, he wondered how he could cover it up. It was going to soak his room full of rain and leaves.

He tsked, and ran from his large suite out into the hall. Flashes of lightning kept him from staying calm, jumping each time a crack of thunder boomed. "s**t s**t s**t..." He needed a tarp. Something.

His scurrying down the stairs led him to the main floor, still in pyjama pants and a loose tee shirt, as well as hastily thrown on shoes.

The weather was horrible, and while bad weather tended to make him tired, he needed to be in his lab or working on something to avoid people in general. The events of the sensitivity meeting had left him with a lot of messes to clean up or otherwise sweep under the rug in hopes all would be forgotten. Right now he was laying low and would emerge again when a new batch of drama had everyone distracted. Said drama wouldn't be long given this island's history.

Wanting to grab a notebook he left in his room, he was heading his way to the steps and turned just in time to see Otto bounding down the hallway looking as if he just got out of bed. Hands raised in a whoa-there, he looked around. "Where's the fire?" Usually when someone was barely dressed and running, it could mean a number of things. Portals. Escaped minipets. Shadowlings. Angry Leads. Then again, Otto could just really need to go to the bathroom or something.

Otto skidded to a stop, staring at Melvin for a moment to make sure he was actually there. He didn't like Melvin, but he didn't like a lot of people. And right now, he needed help.

"Uh... window burst in my room. I need like..." He fidgeted, "A tarp or something?"

Melvin didn't like Otto all that much. He didn't really know the kid, but whenever he was near him, all Otto ever did was whine and complain. He saw him as immature, but most of all, he reminded him a bit like his brother Chris and that just made him want to slap Otto over the back of his head to correct this behavior.

Then he remembered that he left a big bottle of Vitamins in zoo shapes at his door recently, and he considered just walking away to maintain his determination at keeping a low profile. However, Otto was clearly wet and in need of help. Did he ever fix a window before?

"Okay." He said, thinking about it and looking at a clearly frazzled hunter. "There is a Mist closet that they keep basic repair supplies and tools in. They might have a tarp there, and hammer and nails to keep it all in place." He turned, and looking Otto over, dared to ask. "You don't want to maybe change first?" He was just walking around in his PJs after all.

Thank the Gods. Melvin was giving him sound information he could use. He nodded, eager to get this all done quickly before his bedroom was the scene of a disaster.

Otto looked down at himself, "No? They'd just get wet again. I'll change after I fix the window." Because he would not be sleeping in wet clothes. In fact, he might need a hot shower after this. He turned to find the Mist closet, waving his hand behind him. "I need a second pair of hands, so if you could meet me at my room, that'd be great!"

Yes, he was volunteering him. "Second Floor! Door's open!" Otto wasn't a total a**, and he planned to owe the man a favour.

Melvin did not get ordered, and he doubted a guy who didn't know to go directly to a mist closet would know what to grab. Instead, he decided to follow after Otto and match his speed. "Do you even know how to repair a window?" He asked him once he caught up.

He pointed at the closet he was talking about, and once there, stopped. "You need more than just a tarp and nails." He tested the door, looked around, and then turned it, and gave it a hard shove with his shoulder. Okay, so maybe the Mists didn't like people using their stuff, but Melvin tended to need cleaner from closets and got very good at popping loose locks with just a bit of elbow power.

The door opened and he walked in. "Do you know how big your window is?" He asked, moving to find some boards.

"No?" Otto answered, seeing Melvin had decided Otto didn't know what he was doing.

Melvin was right.

He watched a bit dumbfounded as Melvin explained, and shoved open the door. Scratching his head, he shrugged. "It's like... the size of the wall? Like uh..." He pointed upward. "It's tall. My windows are like, a bunch of panels. One of them got busted open. It's about yay wide." He opened his arms out wide. "Or a little bigger than that.."

Melvin turned to see what the sizes were, and then just stared at Otto.

Just. Stared.

Sighing, he adjusted his goggles. "You have no idea how big they are." This was not a question. He was stating fact. "We'll see if there is a knife here to trim the tarp then since you have no idea about your measurements." He picked up some boards and then turned to him. "There should be a tool kit somewhere in here if you can find it. That and nails about..." He paused, looking at Otto. Giving measurements might not be good. Regarding the boards he was going to use, Melvin held up his hand. "This long. Got that?"

Melvin checked the boards before he set one he was going to use against the wall. He just needed sturdy enough boards to create a tight frame for the tarp.

Otto felt like he was being judged. He decided to glare at him as a counter attack. How dare he make Otto feel stupid! It wasn't like he measured his windows in his spare time. Who knew that stuff off hand? He made faces behind Melvin's back to make himself feel better. He knew enough about measurements!

He did, however, make a sour face when Melvin used his patented 'otto' version of measurement back at him. "Yeah fine. Whatever." He grumbled, sifting through the supplies for the nails and kit. He had to get this over with before his bedroom became a rainforest.

He found the kit, and what he assumed were nails 'this long'. "Here, got'em. Come one." He was getting impatient again.

He frowned in return, equally insulted. Here he was helping and Otto was still being rude. He decided to let it pass for being wet and in his jammies. At Otto's impatience, Melvin did not rush just yet. "Let's make sure we have everything before we run off and find out we're screwed." He stressed and made sure that the nails would work and weren't actually screws and then turned. "One last thing." He reminded him and pulled out the tarp.

Boards in one hand and tarp in the other, he let Otto handle the tools and the directions to his place since he seemed SO eager. "Well, let's go then."

Otto fidgeted, waiting with restrained impatience until Melvin finally seemed ready. The teen huffed a sigh of relief, and started off towards his room. He tried not to job or run, so he kept to a speed walk. Melvin did have the larger materials to carry, after all.

Finally, they reached his room. He rushed in, bee-lining for his bedroom. The howling wind was immediately heard, as if monsters were just around the corner. Wind, rain and debris streamed through the window, his carpet soaked, and his bed messy from having just been slept in.

"Okay, okay! What'do we do?" He asked frantically, tossing the tools onto a nearby chair.

Otto's room was large, carpeted, and well furnished. While he was both relieved and surprised to see it was well kept aside from what the storm had rained upon, he wanted to strangle him when he glance at the bathroom. His own bathroom. Private.

Melvin was now more determined to become a full hunter more than ever - instead of murdering Otto to claim his room. He doubted he could crouch that low to assume his identity anyways, though his hat was better than his.

"Grab the nails and hammer. You can hammer the board to your window frame while I hold it in place. The boards will hold the tarp in place and make a better seal for now until you can get a better replacement tomorrow." Melvin held up the tarp, estimated the length, and the used the tools to cut it I shape. He then took one board over the top of the window with the tarp under it and held it in place. "Hammer the corners and the between in even spaces. That way the wind doesn't blow this off tonight." He looked over his shoulder down at Otto and tried to keep a nice, even tone despite the tarp flapping wildly and his sweater and hair being wet.

Otto did as he was told to, nailing in the lower parts of the board before anything else. The margin for error was small, as the windows were so close together. He tsked and cussed, the howling wind impatiently beating against the board.

When it came to high places, Otto was left to try and reach on his tippy toes.

When the top board was secure, despite some fancy tip-toeing footwork from Otto, Melvin let it go and then grabbed the other board. He set it up against the wall and thanked the stars it wasn't too long or too short. At least this time it wasn't too high up. "See. Just like that. Just making a frame." He told him, and would continue doing the same thing with the other two boards to complete the frame to let Otto nail in place until it was all secure.

He did hate that, in that time, his pants and shirt were now drenched in chill water, and he winced whenever the rain kicked up and the wind sent the tarp flapping against them. It was a hurried mess and he was trying to make the most of it. Considering how vicious it was outside, he now understood why Otto was in such a hurry. The floor here was already soggy and drenched.

Otto was on it as soon as Melvin spoke again. Broken glass still littered the floor, rain and debris had been hitting them. It was beyond infuriating. He nailed the next board into place hurriedly, going through every step with panic in his mind. Finally, after some solid team work, it all seemed to be coming together.

It was still noisy, but it was blocked off. "Ugh..." Wet and miserable. They were certainly a pair.
