Taking place at a training base in Jacinto. This is the place where COG high command has decided the new trainee squads are gonna be formed up. Two Sergeants will be dispatched to pick out who they want with their squads.

Several other recruits have begun their training. Consisting of a long obstacle course with Monkey bars over a mud pit, a wall lathered in mud from previous trainees, barbed wire which you're expected to climb under, with a Gear prepared to shoot anyone who's poked up too high with rubber rounds. After which you'll run into several hurdles, and finally into a sprint track that ends with a large pipe you're supposed to shimmy along.

After this obstacle course, recruits will head inside for rifle training.

Caitlyn wiped her brow as the sun beat down on her. Even in the shade it was still an extremely warm day. She leaned her should against a small wooden post holding up the small lip of a roof she was using for shade, examining some of the recruits as they ran the obstacle course. She was tasked with picking out a new squad as the last squad she lead had managed to survive long enough to command squads of their own. With a careful eye she glanced over some of the sergeants scouting out the talent as well. She could always offer to have one of them join her squad and have another capable leader in the group.

With another wipe of her brow she looked back to the recruits as one tripped on the hurdle, falling face first into the mud. With a slight giggle she diverted her attention back to talent scouting.

Logan stood out in the sun, the only indication it bothered him was the sweat beading on his forehead. His arms were folded as he watched the recruits, narrowing his eyes at the various instructors screaming at the top of their lungs to "motivate" the trainees. He understood the need for the yelling, to get them used to performing at the instance an order was issued. He slowly shook his head, knowing the reality of life outside the training system. From a distance Sergeant Kayez imagined he might have been intimidating to some of the younger recruits. He appeared older than he actually was, easily mistaken for a man six to eight years his senior. He cracked his knuckles and sighed, digging a tin of snuff from his pocket. Quickly he packed a dip into his bottom lip and returned the tin to his pocket.

His eyes caught a recruit tripping over a hurdle and he rolled them unknowingly, though his reaction may have been to the giggle coming from a nearby major. "FNGs" he muttered, shaking his head

Striking the sparring bag in the training room, Conner rethought the events of his last mission, thinking about what could have gone better, and what had been carried out in flawless manner. He still could feel the energy in his body crying to be unleashed onto some Locust grunts, but unfortunately there were none around for him to do so. After awhile, he noticed the skin between his knuckles beginning to turn red from being worn by the bag of which he had been working for the past forty minutes. Just a few strikes later, he dropped his fists and sat on the bench near the wall to service himself to some water.

Grabbing his equipment bag, he carried himself to the locker room to rinse himself and redress into his standard crew wear. After locking his belongings up once more, Conner made his way to the firing range for his scheduled performance assessment. He was unallowed to take his own Lancer, as modifications can provide unfair advantages to one shooter over the others, and results would be inconsistent between the soldiers.

Sitting in patience on the benches at the range, Landon and other soldiers of various ranks awaited for an officer to arrive to give them the "official" permission to begin their sessions. It was tedious, but it was also routine to be instructed of the expectations and procedures of the range before shooting, even though just about everyone could recite them from memory just after the first month on base. Fresh reminders keep the soldiers from having the leniency of excuse is what Conner always figured the reasoning was, and of course just so that the operations on base could be considered professional.

With a final grunt, Katherine placed a bar weight back in its place and sat up on the bench, wiping the sweat from her face. She felt the pain in her arms from overworking once more and decided she should probably head to the range before she's late. With a quick stretch, she rose off the bench and grabbed her bag of gear. It was still filled with her new armor and helmet, as well as her own personal belongings. She hadn't even put the armor on since getting here, simply tying a suitable bra on and going to work.

She walked herself to the locker room and tossed her bag in a suitable corner. If someone was gonna jack her stuff they weren't gonna get much. She quickly rinsed herself off and headed out to the firing range. Wiping her face off with a towel as she walked out of the Locker room.

She walked inside the range to see the other soldiers waiting for an officer. She leaned herself against a wall and examined the rest of the room as she was sure she'd end up being a squad with someone in here. With a stretch and a yawn she closed her eyes and decided to wait for the officer to show up to instruct them in silence.

With his legs kicked up on an empty chair infront of him and his arms crossed with his head looking to the ceiling, eyes closed, Conner could only bask in the boredom of the patience. Even beyond how long it usually felt for the wait, this felt as if it had been longer. Perhaps it was just a slow day of his. Apart from the common chatter in the room, a new audio was introduced in the footsteps of someone else entering the room. Faintly excited that the wait was over, Conner turned his head to see the officer, instead his eyes were welcomed to seeing a one of the not many numbers of female COG soldiers, a well bodied one at that.

She had looked familiar to him, and he recollected only a couple moments of seeing her around the base. He figured that she had been recruited not long ago, of course he was unable to determine whether she still was a recruit or not. However, judging by the fact that her uniform was not covered in dirt and dried mud, it was easy to tell she had not been out in the pit where the recruits were training, and so most likely it was a safe assumption to make that she is of at least a private. He didn't pull his head back to its former state immediately. He allowed himself some time to gaze at her just to have an idea of what kind of person she might be, but it proved difficult being so far away without a sample of voice, tone, or personality. He then returned to his relaxed position and continued to wait.

A man entered the room, calling out that the officer would be arriving shortly after they had completed their evaluation of the recruits in the pit.

Caitlyn entered the room scratching the back of her head in embarrassment. She looked around the room to take stock of who was in here, noticing half of them were either asleep or with their eyes closed.

"Sorry everyone, we had some issues on the training course." She said in an even tone. Not needing to go into details about the fight that broke out.
"If everyone wants to take a Lancer from the rack and get to it that'd be splendid. Unless ya'll want to keep snoozing? I'd hate to disturb the beauty sleep you all so desperately need." She finished the order with a smile and a gesture to the racks. Lined with the standard issue lancers, and fully loaded. "We'll go the standard targeted practice, targets will appear in random order and distance, get an accurate shot for more points. Top score gets sent to high command and you might get sent to the Recon or Sniper division."

With one final gesture to the rack, the majority of recruits and privates got up to go and grab a rifle.

Logan walked in as the recruits rushed to grab their Lancers. He looked at the weapon with disdain. In truth he was not a huge fan of the MK2 Lancer, the chainsaw bayonet, while effective, was loud as hell. Due to the nature of the enemy they were fighting many things needed to be adapted. Many reconnaissance platoons had been adapted to the role of force reconnaissance. Logan attempted to straighten any creases from his fatigues, wiping off any stray mud. When the fight erupted out on the course he'd been one of the first ones to jump in and break it up, earning a sharp elbow to his cheek for the effort. The red mark and swelling were still very much visible but Logan didn't let it bother him. Quickly he crossed the room, pulling papers from his pocket.

"Ma'am" He started, grabbing the majors attention "Sergeant Kayez, First battalion, A-coy. I'm here on behalf of our reconnaissance platoon to oversee the recruits on the range."

Caitlyn nodded as the Sergeant entered. "Good timing Sergeant. You're gonna watch some of my personal favorites. Better not come and steal em on me." She said with a smile before walking down the lane to examine everyone's shooting.

----

Katherine took immediate aim at the first target to pop up in her lane, blasting a hole in it right below the small dot in the middle. Marking a perfect shot, she fired one more that was a centimetre off just to the left. With a slight sigh of annoyance she took aim once more. As a target further away flipped upright she fired a burst into it, a tight form in the center once more, and continuing to fire tight bursts into most of her targets until her clip ran out.

"I'm just here to see how one of your recruits does. It's no secret that we need snipers and from everything her instructors have passed on Recruit Schofield is a promising candidate." Logan said as he followed the Major as she walked down the lane. He passed by a soldier engaging targets and paused briefly, watching her progress. He eyed her once over, clad a little scantily for a range but he wasn't about to argue. He walked up behind her and waited until her magazine went dry before leaning in. "Fire at the end of your exhale, try to stick to a shorter burst as well, three shots maximum for this distance" He advised.

Katherine let out another breath after reloading her lancer. As she did so, another target sprung up to meet a 3 round burst to its midsection target. With a satisfied improvement to her accuracy she turned and passed her Lancer to one of the newer recruits behind her who had been waiting. They exchanged nods and Katherine went to sit on the bench, her ears still ringing from the gunfire she wasn't quite used to yet. She watched the Major and Sergeant walk up the aisle in curiosity but turned her gaze away, closing her eyes and leaning back against the bench.

-----

Caitlyn had to raise her voice over some of the gunfire, but it was no issue. She was used to having to yell to address many troops at once, this was on par with whispering to her. "Schofield has potential, had planned on sending her in with the light infantry division but if she's going with Recon it might mean she'll live longer than the suicide line." The Major was rather blunt the way she addressed the troops sent into the action on the front lines. She knew as well as anyone else that fighting Locust was where your real skill came form.

She turned around to see one of the privates returning to sit on the bench, and with a shake of her head she raised her voice once more, much louder than before. "Buchanan! If you're done then go do something productive instead of eyeing every man that walks in. CQC or something." With that she continued down the lane. "If she wasn't as good as she is with hand to hand or heavy arms she would've been kicked out already."

"Safe?" Logan asked while raising an eyebrow. "Ma'am the Reconnaissance division has taken some heavy hits of our own these past few years. We go in ahead of the standard infantry, with all due respect ma'am we ARE the suicide line." He argued, doing his best not to sound out of place. when the major raised her voice Logan winced slightly. Quickly he grabbed his tin of chewing tobacco and packed his bottom lip. "I could take her off of your hands, throw her in with the rest of Alpha company. Though I feel like that would be like throwing a piece of meat to a pack of hungry dogs."

Caitlyn nodded once to what the Sergeant was saying. "You're not wrong, but you go in with the intent of gathering information and finding strategic features of an area." She stopped and turned around, facing the man but still having to look up at him as he was almost a foot taller. "I'm not here to argue which department is more ********> She returned with a smile. With his offer of taking Buchanan off her hands the Major nodded almost immediately. "That's a great idea actually, I'm sure she can handle herself. Dunno if she's gonna mesh with them properly at first but i'm sure she could earn a place." She patted the Sergeant on the back firmly before turning around. A majority of the recruits were finishing up anyway. "Schofield should be in the 7th lane and im sure you can find Buchanan beating the s**t out of someone in sparring. I've got paperwork upstairs waiting, can't avoid it all day." With that she exited the range, heading back up to an office.

In his ecstatic relief that the officers finally came, it was only his hopes getting up as he still had to wait another good number of minutes for his turn at the range. Conner shook his head lightly, and stood at attention awaiting for his opportunity.

The first opening was at Lancer range 7, where no one else had stepped in line. Despite being at the range of his favorite number, he was in disappointment. Taking arms with one of the Lancers on the rack, he let out another sigh just laying his hand on the firearm. It made little sense to Conner as to why a weapon he never arms himself with during missions was a commonly trained firearm of all Gears save the sharpshooters. Not that he was complaining, he was honest to most about being jealous of the chainsaw bayonet that most of the other men got to carry, but the teeth of a saw did not compensate enough for the comfort of the kick of a 12 guage bucking into your arm. The audio of unsupressed fire bothered his ears, and sounded much less beautiful to him.The extra grams of weight also threw him off, only barely. The lack of the laser sight was no big issue, but that blue beam looked so awesome to his aim. Regardless, he retrieved the rifle and stood at the range, taking aim down at the different length shots. His greatest hits were always between 50-100 yards, anything further and his shots were beginning to reach the edges of the middle ring on the target. Beginning in single rounds, he fired a very tight spread at the target, which expanded by a little over two inches as he continued on to firing in controlled bursts. He strayed from full auto, unless at close range it was never quite practical for him. After seeing his projected rating on the screen, the same average as before. He returned the rifle to the rack casually, and continued about his day back to the weight room to pump lead.
