A traditional coffee bar in colours of brown, cream, and blue. Upper management and owner unknown. It smells strongly of freshly ground coffee. A small cold case in front of the register has various sparkling juices and the signs are all hand written or drawn on chalkboard planks. Low seating with wide tables conductive to working or groups dot the cafe with a corner divided by a wall section bordered by windows and filled with floor pillows. A sign in the window, also handwritten, says 24/7 free Wi-Fi. A few outdoor tables with umbrellas and wrought iron chairs dot the patio that curves around the edge of the building and borders the woods.

Stars with Moon is now hiring, please come in and fill out an application if you're interested.

Merwin- Night Manager
Chiffon- Barista

♛ ♛ ♛ Menu ♛ ♛ ♛

The menu for Stars with Moon is of a classic coffee bar. Nothing close to Starbucks and if you don't bring in your own mug the staff will side-eye you so hard. Order coffee (or tea if you dare). Pastries are a nebulous concept that may or may not exist depending on the time of day. If you order a Frappuccino you're getting kicked out. Daily specials are written in chalk on boards on the wall behind the counter.

Elekt fiddles with his bag, sorting through a wide variety of daily needs before finding the keys to his shop. Fretting he locks up the door and pauses to wipe a smudge off the large window offering a view of an upcoming sale item.

He holds his long skirt up a few inches for the walk to the cafe on the west corner of the shop compound, a few shops from his own storefront.

The day had been more typical to the lonely days he was used to, albeit he was still a bit frazzled from the rush at the middle of the week. Locking up the shop, or rather, completely closing it felt foreign and wrong but he'd all but promised to come to the cafe, and he did not like disappointing people.

Pushing the door open to the cafe he lets his skirts drop back to the floor and drifts towards the counter.

User ImageTrue to her word, Chiffon had cleaned up. The entire shop was rather clean, and she was absorbed in polishing a bit of copper on the espresso machine, nearly cooing over it. Delilah was curled up in the window, eyeing the night with more interest than anything inside, though Elekt did get a cursory glance.

At the sound of the door, and rustling fabric, Chiffon had glanced up, her expression wary- and then clearing to a small smile. "Hey, Elekt," she says, throwing the rag down and leaning against the counter in a friendly way. "Good to see you, what can I get for you? First one's on the house."

Smiling warmly at Chiffon he looks over the assorted drinks written up on the boards and then back to Chiffon. "Well you know my penchant was for things with alcohol, it's been so long since I've needed a real pick me up, so I give it over to you, I put myself in your expert hands. In the Stitchery all I get it water or weak tea when I remember to brew it, at the moment I'm not nearly the best person to decide on a good drink.

User ImageShe considers him for a moment, and grins. "Sounds like you need a bit of a pick-me-up, then. Long day, not much good to drink? I don't know if you drank for the taste and the effects, but we've got a nice batch of beans here I think you'll like. I've been playing with Baby, here," and she indicated the espresso machine, "and water temps and pressure and all that nice s**t, and I think I've hit a good combo for these beans from Guatemala. Good citrusy notes, with a solid finish that leaves you feeling real nice. Kind of like a good glass of Scotch."

She doesn't wait for any type of approval- he'd left in her hands, after all, and starts making his drink, pulling the shots and steaming the milk with an air of deep concentration. It doesn't take her long- and when she's done she presents him with a classic espresso macchiato. "Try that, see how you feel," she says.

He watches her actions enthusiastically, noting with interest how very into the work she is, her comments earlier proven accurate. He takes the drink with a gesture of thanks and takes his time with the first sip.

Closing his eyes he focuses on the aroma first, and then the play of scent and taste melding together. With a deep sigh of contentment he nods. "None finer in years, this really is the mark of an artisan." It takes some of the frizz of fatigue from his shoulders, not from caffeine, but from taste and nostalgia.

"Perfect. I can taste that citrus, acidic but sweet."

User ImageChiffon grins, obviously flattered, but says only, "Yeah, the growers and roasters really knew their s**t. Most people'd go gentle with these, but they can stand up to a lot- they're a lot less citrusy when you're a pansy-a**." She fetches him some water without him asking- a small cup with a few mint leaves muddled in the bottom.

"Just in case," she says, "So, tell me 'bout your day? Seems like it was a bit of a one." She closes in a bit, familiar and friendly.

Elekt laughs softly and thanks her for the water, taking a bit of a sip, interchanging between the two drinks at variables. He settles into a chair facing the counter, and puts his legs out before him with a groan. "I'm filling an order for a grand ballgown and a men's suit to match. The design was provided so that isn't the taxing part but the beading! The bolero for the men's set alone calls for all of this intricate beading on the shoulders, back, and cuffs. I haven't even begun to think about what the ballgown is going to take. My fingers and eyes are killing me."

He laughs a little deprecatingly. "But it's fulfilling work. Better than anything I did before, to see the look on someone's face when they find just what they wanted is lovely."
PostPosted: Sat Feb 01, 2014 9:48 pm

User ImageShe winces a little in sympathy. "I never could get behind all that crafty stuff. God knows I tried, you know how many cute hipster girls like it when you can do your own crafts? But I don't have the patience. I get what you mean though, I like how people light up when I make their coffee right- or when they shut up." She glares somewhat incongruously at the pillow pile in the corner. "Try not to make yourself blind with it, though," she says, "and come in here if you need a pick-me-up, we're always getting new stock, and Baby and me can do all sorts of cool s**t to 'em."

Delilah, deciding the window was boring now, hops off, and trots over to Elekt, sniffing at his skirts. "That's Delilah," Chiffon says, "My cat. She's plenty friendly, but watch your drink- she's a thief."

Elekt smiles down at Delilah, ruffling his skirts a bit so that the upper skirt fluttered in an appealing way to felines. "Tricksy likes milky tea, I'm familiar with thieving kitties. Your employer lets you bring your pet to work? That lovely, so often I've got to deal with people complaining about the cat hair, nothing a lint roller won't fix, you'd think they'd just manage what with the work being done. Keeps the fabrics safe from burrowing vermin. They like to make nests in them."

He leans forward and offers his hand to Delilah to sniff.

User ImageDelilah sniffs his fingers and rubs her face lightly on them, signaling her approval.

"Man, you should hear people complain about her in here sometimes," Chiffon says, "Like a*****e, the cat is cleaner than you are. She's good company, the regs seem to like her, and she keeps the pests out. Not to mention I get bored without her, and no one wants that." Delilah meows, as if in confirmation, and bats at Elekt's hem playfully, claws kept in. "I bet Tricksy's good company in a sewing shop," she muses, "Seems like it'd be a paradise for a cat, keep 'em in a good mood."

Elekt nods and smiling whisks his skirt around slowly for Delilah to play with. "She knows not to go after yarn or string but sometimes she'll loose her mousey under something and be an awful nuisance till I retrieve it for her. She's not good around large groups though so I keep her in the back room so she doesn't get too frayed if it's a weekday. Early morning or later afternoon she's fine in the front room."

User Image"Poor kitty," Chiffon says, "I'd like to meet her sometime when it's quiet, if she's all right with new people? Someone new to fetch her mousy can't hurt." Below them, Delilah keeps batting at Elekt's skirt, obviously delighted with the new way to play. Chiffon grins down at that cat, and continues, "Mine doesn't go for the toys much- she's just a little attention whore, though. Wants anyone and everyone to pet her, and the less they want to, the better.

Elekt smiles down at Delilah, "She's a dear, and like all other cats, if I sleep in too long and it's due for breakfast Trisky sits on my chest and meows like she's dying till I get up. It's nice not to be alone though." He sits up and pats his knees to see if Delilah is a lap sitter.

"Do you get a lot of visitors yet?"
