We're hoping to take a cartoony style with the art inspired by Scott C.'s. We are not trying to make an exact duplicate of this style. In terms of character design, lining, posing, and colors, we want a familiar flavor but with each artist's own unique twist. Features can be exaggerated, designs should be unique and inclusive.

Psychonauts concept art
Brutal Legend concept art (spoilers.....roo.........)

Another artist I think is a good inspiration is Foo Swee Chin, whose work on the first two volumes of Nightmares & Fairytales was the reason I got interested in it in the first place.

Art by Stages

Each stage of growth has a difference in art. All art is to be full bodies.

Campers are children (aged 9-14). This stage is meant to simply show off their base design and give a hint of their personality.
- one power total
- do not show powers in art
- pose is generally static but still shows off their personality

Psycadet is the next stage up for them. It is meant to show more of their personality and give a visual representation of their first unique ability.
- two powers total
- a more dynamic pose to show off their personality
- may show one power in art (a standard power!!)
- access to marksmanship, levitation training, and unique courses

Students are teenagers (aged 12-19). This stage is meant to show off their base design and give a hint of their personality.
- three powers total
- do not show powers in art
- pose is generally static but still shows off their personality

Recruit is the next stage up. It is meant to show more of their personality and give a visual representation of their favored ability (whichever the player wants to be their strongest).
- four powers total
- show off one power in art (player gets to choose)
- a more dynamic pose to show off their personality
- access to unique courses
- gain a mental "map" image after their brain tumbler experiment

Agents are adults (18-??). This stage includes the traditional Psychonauts uniform and show that they are part of a cohesive unit while still illustrating their personality.
- five powers total
- pose is generally static but still shows off their personality
- two pieces of art total; one for casual wear one for the uniform (just color the uniform over their casual art)
- may show off one power in art (player gets to choose)
- receive a unique psychoportal designed around their character's theme
- get a mental world post in the astral plane forum with all of their mental world details
- sent on local missions only (within the united states)

Psychonaut is the final stage. They are no longer required to wear the uniform and may customize their attire however they please (however the player requests). Their pose should be actiony, showing off their favored ability.
- six powers total
- pose is highly dynamic and actiony
- show off two psychic abilities at once (player gets to choose)
- customize attire to player specifications
- one free customized update to psychoportal at player request
- sent on international missions (across the world)
- get their own office (and lab if requested) in the underground base
- may assign missions to agents

Pet art follows the same inspirational sources and constraints but they only get one art and it is not updated if they gain psychic abilities, only their cert is.
