Isa
User Image"Thanks for nothing!" a pretty gold and white lioness called after the retreating figure of a leopard. She had very little experience interacting with non-lion entities, but the few interactions she had taken part in had not left her with a favorable impression of them.

"I hate rogues. They're so stupid," Isa fumed as she stomped gracefully across the veldt.

The idea that she could stomp gracefully ought to have been an exaggeration, but it was not. Her father had encouraged her to be graceful and his mate had taught her to dance. Hari had also taught Isa to sing, but the singing had done nothing to make her more graceful and had not contributed in any discernible way to her ability to stomp with grace.

Ela
User ImageSunning herself nearby, a creamy white lioness tipped in warm grey overheard this furious exclamation and sat up. She could continue to lay low and allow the irate stranger to pass her by, but she was bored and had not gotten into an argument for nearly a month, which was entirely too long, as far as she was concerned.

With this in mind, Mustela stood up and stretched langorously, taking the opportunity to observe that the angry stranger was a lioness and moved with a thoroughly improbable gait. Mustela had always considered herself a relatively graceful lion, but she decided that she woud have to re-evaluate her position. How could anybody possibly manage to stomp gracefully? That was both ridiculous and unfair.

"Oh, surely we rogues aren't all that bad," she teased, her voice low and almost sultry. She didn't really know any other way to tease.

Isa
User ImageIsa's golden eyes narrowed as her gaze fixed on a lioness whose pelt was much the same color as her own, beneath the stripes. She blinked slowly, doing her best to make it clear that she considered it beneath her to acknowledge the pale lioness before her.

"I have yet to meet any to prove me wrong," she countered with a self-assured inflection. "You are, of course, welcome to attempt to persuade me otherwise." The look on her face and the set of her body made it clear that she did not expect to be proven wrong by this particular rogue, either.

The sheltered upbringing she'd had and the limited interactions with others since then meant that she was completely unaware of the way her words might have been interpreted by a certain kind of person. Fortunately for her, she was not dealing with that kind of person.

Ela
User ImageAt least, Ela wasn't that kind of person in that she was not interested in other females' charms, and so she only smirked and said nothing at first, allowing the moment to pass. Had the other lioness been a lion instead, she would have responded differently, with more teasing.

Instead of continuing to tease, Ela studied the other lioness. Obviously she was a pridal lioness, given the statement she had just made about rogues, but there had to be a story in there somewhere. After all, lionesses who hated rogues didn't tend to venture into the rogue lands if they had a pride to call home.

"I could. Or I could ask you what's wrong. Are you lost? Are you looking for someone?" She tried to sound solicitous, but a hint of humor remained in her tone. She couldn't help it.

Isa
User ImageIsa's bad mood evaporated all at once, and then returned. She had been pleased to have somebody notice that she was upset and ask her why, but then she had been angry that she felt pleased just because she was among savage rogues who couldn't be expected to notice things like that. At home she would never have felt so stupidly gratified by such a little thing.

"I don't know where I am, but I'm not lost," she began. There was a distinction, gods damn it. "I'm looking for my half-brother, who left the pride a while back. I expected him to return, but when he didn't I decided I would find him and bring him back."

The fact that she did not, at present, know how to get back was not a concern for Isa at the moment. First she would find Khozar, then the two of them would figure out how to go home. That was how it would be. At least, that was how she hoped it would be.

Ela
User ImageEla listened and was unsurprised by what she heard. It wasn't unusual for someone in the rogue lands to not know where they were, exactly, but still not consider themselves lost. After all, one could really only be lost if one had a specific place they were supposed to be and didn't know how to get there.

"I see. Could you describe your brother to me? It's a long shot, but I might have seen him, or heard of him, at any rate."

She was willing to help if she could. A quest sounded like it would be more interesting than an argument, in the long run, and it would probably make for a better story, too, the next time she crossed paths with her mother, who was something of a storyteller and liked to hear stories as well.

"Do you have a name, by the way?"

Isa
User ImageIsa settled into a prim seated position which would have pleased her father and her missing half-brother. Only once she was comfortably situated did she begin to speak. Curiosity had been her burden as a cub, but she had learned to contain it and express it more subtly, per the preferences of the males in her family.

"My brother's name is Khozar, and mine is Isarmaq," she began. "He's a smaller lion, with a mane the color of my stripes and eyes that are a much brighter gold than mine, almost orange colored. Most of his body's a deep brown, fading to gold at his paws, and he has black stripes. He's very handsome and intelligent, but he might seem domineering to somebody who doesn't know him well, particularly a female, but that's because he was raised to protect females."

Isa didn't realize it, but when she spoke of her brother, her stiff poise softened a little bit. She truly was fond of him - adored him, really - and his departure had crushed her. Her father had only permitted her to search for Khozar because of how devastated his loss had left her. And a little bit because his mate convinced him, Isa supposed.

Ela
User ImageEla didn't even have to pause to conjure a memory of a lion that fit that description. Well, most of it anyway. She hadn't interacted with that lion enough to really say whether he was intelligent or not. He was certainly domineering, though, and frighteningly brutal in his defense of females. And handsome. Thinking of him, Ela could not deny that the lion in her thoughts had been handsome.

"I actually think that I may have encountered him, Isarmaq, although he did not give me his name." She realized that Isarmaq had not asked for her name and she tried not to be annoyed by that lapse in manners. The way she carried herself, Isarmaq seemed to be the kind of lioness who would do something like that on purpose to remind someone else of their relative unimportance.

"I left before I saw which direction he went in, but that would give you a place to start your search. Something better than wandering aimlessly, anyway."

Isa
User ImageIsa's eyes lit up with hope, making her even more beautiful. At the same time, she wondered what kind of encounter this rogue lioness had with Khozar. Surely he hadn't been with her. The lioness was pretty enough, in a way, but she was nothing to what Khozar might aspire to. If he had been with her in that way, it had surely meant nothing to him, even if she did claim to have left before he did.

"I would appreciate it if you would show me where you last saw him..." she paused to allow the rogue the opportunity to insert her name. "Directions in the veldt are not hugely helpful, I have found, and I would like to be certain of going to the correct place, rather than wandering aimlessly, as you put it."

The implication that she was wandering aimlessly had stung Isa's pride a bit, since she was doing the best that she could, given her complete lack of useful information.

Ela
User ImageFinally she remembered her manners, Ela thought a little uncharitably as she supplied her name. "Mustela."

She considered Isarmaq's request. The lioness sure had a stick up her arse, and wouldn't be a great traveling companion because of it, but that was not really a good reason to keep her from finding her brother, whom she so obviously loved.

"All right, I can do that. But I warn you there may not be much to go by, as far as tracking him. It was some time ago that I saw him." But the experience had been memorable and if she thought about it she could probably recall the direction he had come from. Besides, it would give her an excuse to see if he was really as handsome as she remembered him being, or if that was just her mind playing tricks.
