X & Y have been out for a few months now, I'm sure everyone knows of the Mega Evolution. Mega Gyarados is a Dark Water Type witch is a decent type combination.
Normal Gyarados is a good water type just watch out for electric types, however I feel as though that Mega Gyarados should of been a Dragon Water type not a Dark Water type.
Reason:
1. It's in the Dragon egg group
2. It learns all but 2/3 dragons moves he can't learn are Draco Meteor, Dragon Claw, and Dragon Breath. (Please note that he can learn Dragon breath in gen 2)
3. Dragon Moves it can learn:
Dragon Rage
Twister
Dragon Dance
Dragon Breath (gen 2 only)
Outrage
Dragon Pulse
Dragon Tail
Was Mega Gyarados Cheated? from it full potential or is it being a Water Dark type a good typing for Mega Gyarados?

Would you have prefered something similar to Charizard X & Y in that Gyarados would be Water/Dark for one and Water/Dragon for the other? Personally, I would prefer that certain Pokemon didn't get both an X & Y mega evolution and that space was used for more Pokemon to have a Mega Evolution (or even a normal evolution) as well. Farfetch'd needs something, dangit! xd

I've always felt as though Gyarados Normal and Mega should of been a Water Dragon not Water Fly or Water Dark, I believe that Gyarardos was cheated from Gen 1. Like I stated before He learns all but 2/3 Dragon moves, hes in the Dragon egg group and look like a Dragon.
If it look like a dragon, acts like a dragon and sounds, like a dragon, what is? a Dragon. Even the Pokedex Gyarados data says its a highly destruction Pokemon, Dragons are Highly destruction. I'm just saying Gyarados true Potential is as a Dragon type not a Dark type or a Water Flying type.

Kyrenx Well the obvious connection between Gyarados being a water type is the basis that it's quite possibly the Pokemon version of a sea serpent. Why it flies in the air though like the luckdragon Falkor from the Neverending Story is probably anyone's guess.
The same could be said about Charizard, though it did finally get the dragon classification as one of it's mega evolutions, even though it resembles Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty to some extent.
Still it would be nice if Mega Gyarados got a Dragon typing add to it at the ever least. To be fair Charizard got its Dragon typing because of people complaining about it not being a Dragon type.
