Roman Foi It wasn't long before the sun was going to set, maybe any hour or so, and Thane had yet to track down Kadyn. It was very unusual for his wolf-companion to wander off for this long with prior notice, and he felt the anxiousness build in his chest. They weren't in the most secure areas, knowing this was territory that was in the heart of the not-long-ago war. Phail Ninja Pyralis stalked forwards, her tail whipping from side to side behind her. Her muscles burned to do something. She wasn't used to all this wandering about uselessly. When she'd been with the herd she'd kept herself to a strict regime, full of training and patrols. But now? There was no one around now. Her wings stretched out, helping to work out the kinks in her shoulders. What was life now that she was alone? Now that she'd... lost?
A faint sound caught the edge of her hearing. Oh ho ho. Her attention snapped away from her internal dilemma. Was that a tasty meal, scurrying about not too far away? Or was it something even better... was it a stranger? A malicious grin spread across her face, it was time to found out. Roman Foi Thane was trying to be cautious, but felt he was being silly. He hadn't seen a sign of anyone for miles, and he had to hurry. "Kadyn!" He bellowed, paused and listened. Nothing. He signed and continued down the hill side, scanning around. The trees weren't too far off and the sun was already casting them into darker and darker shadows. "Kadyn, come on!" Phail Ninja As the stallion's voice called out into the approaching darkness, an excited shiver ran down Pyralis' spine. Her eyes narrowed as she crept towards him, zoning in slowly. Her muscles felt a little slow, a result of both a lack of training and unhealed injuries from the war. But that wouldn't stop her, she had something to prove. The memory of a grey stallion sprung to mind, the one who had defeated her. Hatred burned through her limbs, giving fire to her fury. There was no way she could lose.
And there, standing before her was her quarry. She had considered going for a flying approach, but she was too close to take off now without revealing her position. No, a regular crouch-and-pounce would have to do. With a bloodcurdling cry, she leapt forwards out of the darkness, teeth aiming for his neck. How dare he cross her path? Roman Foi Pyralis: 6 Thane: Thane heard the crunch of the leaves before the cry. He was stunned for just a second too long and felt the bite of claws or teeth-- he didn't know which. He immediately jumped backward, snarling in response. Damn it! He'd been so stupid. He searched her quickly for blood marks -- what could be Kadyn -- and thankfully none looked fresh. Just dried and caked.
A left over, huh? Focusing in, Thane struck out using his wings, throttled forward, his sharpened hooves rearing up to gouge her face, neck, side, anything he could hit the mark. Phail Ninja Pyralis: 6 Thane: 3 Pyralis felt her teeth connect solidly with his flesh, but didn't have enough of a hold to take him out instantly. She leaped backwards, apparently just far enough away to dodge his counterattack, the tip of his wing just coming up to gouge a light wound into her side. She could smell the blood, welling up to form small droplets on her side. That sharp metallic tang sang out to her. She dropped her head down, whirling around to jab at him sharply with her horns, aiming for any soft flesh she could access. Roman Foi Pyralis: (6, 1) 7 Thane: 3 He saw her flex right before she lunged, and was able to dodge out of the way of her horns. "Come on, huh!" He bellowed, and right as she went for him, he aimed to bring his horn down into her ribs. He was too caught off guard to really be able to think strategy. This was a fast paced race to wear the other out. Phail Ninja Pyralis: (6, 1) 7 Thane: (3, 4) 7 With Pyralis' head bowed down for the blow, she completely misjudged the stallion's position and soared straight past. His own head-butt caught her solidly on the back, causing her to yelp in pain. A quick look revealed that there didn't seem to be too much damage, luckily. With a horn like his, one lucky hit and she'd be dead meat. She wheeled around, trying to get into a slightly more defensive position. Her teeth snapped forwards again, looking for a weakness. Roman Foi Pyralis: (6, 1, 4) 11 Thane: (3, 4) 7 He was slower to dodge this time. He wasn't expecting her to take a defense stance-- Kalona's usually are complete offense, thats how he beats them. If this one was more cautious then he was in for some trouble. Her teeth nicked him again on the neck but not enough to really cause damage. The adrenaline kept him from feeling much. Just the feel of wetness on his neck running down his chest.
She was full of weapons. Her horns. Her hooves. Her teeth. Her wings. Her tail, even, were all sharper than what he had. All except for his horn which he prayed were easier to manage an assault. He faked right and aimed to slam his horn into her chest--dangerously exposing the back of his neck but worth the effort if it hits.Phail Ninja Pyralis: (6, 1, 4) 11 Thane: (3, 4, 5) 12 The stallion's horn swung towards her again, aiming for her chest. With her teeth still trying to grab a decent bite on him, she was off-balance and unable to deflect the blow. Luckily, he stuck off centre. A deep wound opened on her chest where he pierced her, but it missed any major blood vessels. Somewhere she registered the pain, but there was no time to dwell on it. Adrenaline kept her going as she lunged for his now exposed neck.Roman Foi Pyralis: (6, 1, 4, 9) 20 Thane: (3, 4, 5) 12 Damn! She'd moved last minute, unexpectedly, and he missed his target. He was steadily getting better as he fell into his zone... Or at least he was until she latched onto his throat. He was hurt, and he was hurt badly. He felt completely numb--felt nothing, saw nothing. He felt like time had slowed, but then again, he didn't much register that either. Then all at once it sped up faster than what it had been before. Attempting to rip away, Thane brought up his front legs, ready to latch on with his own teeth, gouge, pierce, trample, what ever he had to do to damage this witch to an incapacitated state. Phail Ninja Pyralis: (6, 1, 4, 9) 20 Thane: (3, 4, 5, 3) 15 Pyralis felt the soft flesh of his neck between her teeth as she bit down hard. Warm, salty liquid flooded into her mouth. The metallic taste drove her into a frenzy as she dodged the worst of his attacks, letting out a loud cackle. He managed to briefly clip her, but she could barely even feel it. She was invincible! Her back legs lunged out in a sharp kick, aiming straight for his delicate ribs.Roman Foi Pyralis: (6, 1, 4, 9, 10) 30 Thane: (3, 4, 5, 3) 15Thane felt the sharp pain that swept everything from his sight, hearing, all senses. He crumbled. He could barely breathe and struggled to suck air in, gasping. He'd beaten everyone he faced in the war. Everyone. And yet here he was on the ground, beaten by a female ambush. How sad.Kadyn was too late. She'd seen it in the distance. Seen the possibly fatal kick straight into the side of Thane. She darted, pounding the earth at a speed she'd never thought she'd be able to reach. Her eyes never wavered from the mare, her growl just beginning to grow until it erupted from her snout loud and menacing as she leaped from the forest's edge. Blood covered her snout from her hunt earlier, making her even the more fearsome. She charged, taking a protective stance over Thane. She could see the mare was hurt, and where she was hurt. She was faster, smaller target, and had sharper teeth. She knew she wouldn't win a drawn out fight but it wouldn't take that. Snarling again, she watched what the mare would do...
