Melvin had wandered away after returning from the portal, not being the best available and feeling a bit under the whether due to stomach and rib kicking. He now has a rosy mark on his jawline too from being punched. However, his physical pain was nothing close to his emotional one, and with Better Melvin dead and gone, he was left with little options. He had to become better himself, and there was only one place he could do that.
The Library.
Melvin was hobbling, holding his sides, looking in the Self Help aisle of the library. There wasn't much, but he decided to pick up a few. How to be a better mother (because why should he gender stereotype after all?), how to be a better businessman, how to influence others, and how to be a more accepting lover.
He was holding a few books and moving down the aisle when he spotted a girl laying on the ground. Not on a couch or on a chair. On the ground curled up.
Setting his books down, he looked at her, all bundled up, and felt bad. She should be in a warm bed, with soup and hot cocoa and enjoying her youth with frilly magazines with lots of quizzes. Not here, on the cold, unforgiving, dirty floor. Really dirty floor. Was that a gum wrapper over there? OH DEAR This place might as well be the bathroom of a meth lab!
He leaned over, petting her hair. It was okay now. Melvin would was here to help.

Nevada came to the library for the pure reason of gathering...sleep.
It wasn't often that a mist hunter got sleep and to be honest, since Aria and Otto and things happening, she had been awake...watching with one eye open. Finally she couldn't take it anymore and collapsed in the quietest and least used room ever.
Eventually, she was quiet and sleeping...as it wasn't hard for her to ever fall asleep. She dreamed of the other world, of Pandora playing with her long hair and braiding it. Of Stormy and Alaska humming. Cass laughing. Girls laughing together in a room in one of the houses.
Eventually she started to stir when the hair petting felt real.
"Stop Alaska.....There's only one braid loose!" She mumbled in her sleep, shifting away from the hand.

He rose his hand, holding his breath as she stirred, mentioning something about living in Alaska, and then braiding hair. Well, Melvin wasn't a girl, and while he saw his sister fix her hair plenty of times, he never braided hair before. However, he understood the concept of braiding, and if this poor floor-sleeping girl needed her hair braided, then it would be insensitive of him to deny her what few pleasures she could attain on this island. Considering how some women could have really fixed themselves up more, he should encourage her attempts at remaining presentable.
So, scooting over, he slowly tried to pick Nevada up just a bit in order to place her head on his lap, and would then proceed to attempt hair braiding. He didn't have flowers on him, so instead he reached into his pocket for a packet of fresh Kleenex and made tissue flowers instead to put in her hair too.
He felt he should sing a lullaby, but since he didn't know any, he just hummed the StarTrek theme song instead.

Nevada stretched and made herself comfortable, eventually stirring from her sleep to gentle hands in her hair and a soft humming of star trek. her one and only good eye cracked slowly, blinking to clear the bleariness, a hand coming to rub up at it.
realizing it was neither her sister...nor pandora nor stormy playing with her hair and a complete stranger well...she did the only natural thing...She got more comfortable of course.
"Well handsome, this is the first time I've woken to someone playing with my hair and..." She reached up as a tissue tickled her cheek, staring at a small flower like design. "Flowers too. Are you trying to sleep woo me?" She was teasing, her tone lazy and playful.

Handsome was a surprise, and he simply looked at her, flattered but trying not to be vain. Considering he had, a short time ago, been on the floor being kicked to near death by his other self, he thought he looked ruffled. He had a slight redness on his jawline that would have been the worst bruise if not for Hunter healing, and wore a green hat to cover up his very short hair.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" He whispered despite her already being awake. "I wasn't trying to hit on you, but you asked for braids and you looked sad on the floor. I wanted to tell you there were much cleaner closets in the Life labs to sleep in because I cleaned them personally, but I feel that a bed would be better. Not that I want to judge your freedom of sleeping places, but there is a used bandage over there and I fear for your overall safety."
He then remembered. "Oh, and you asked for a braid." He whispered, and held up the "braid" he made which was more or less just a twisting of hair with a few knots and 2 tissue flowers.

"Well, I'd be pretty surprised if my sleep talking skills were able to carry a legit conversation..." She teased and stretched, "Yep all awake. It's nice."
She snorted again, "Did I really? I was dreaming of my sisters and such. Doing what sisters do and girly things or whatever." Sad on the floor though was a first and she tried really hard not to laugh because some people just had such funny ideas. "I'm not a fan of the life labs." She confirmed, "due to a certain green giant stomping around the grounds there. I tend to stick away if I can..."
She frowned and looked at her long hair, two small flower tissue placed in it. It was meticulousy made and had her hand running over it. "Thank you!" She piped and pushed herself up, turning to face him.
"My name is Nevada, and who are you Mystery braider of hair?"

"Oh, you had sisters too? I have one too, but I can't see her anymore. I bet your sisters were very kind to you if you want them to braid your hair still."
"Oh, a green giant. I don't think we tested anyone to turn green yet, or large. I can see how that can be scary, but my lab and the closets around it are nice. The Life Labs aren't that bad, you just have to not drink or eat anything strange or sleep in places you can't lock unless you like sharpie on your face. The techs just get tired looking at charts and numbers all day and try to have fun. It's very harmless most of the time. Expect for eating or drinking strange things, but we have an Infirmary nearby and very nice doctors. Well, a few. Dr. Stephan is nice, and he has very nice teeth. Very nice."
He watched her rise, raising his hands to let her move up, before looking over at her. "Hello, Nevada. I'm Melvin. Melvin Wood. Can we get off the floor now? I respect your choice to be here, but I don't like it here. You should probably take a shower soon too, and next time bring a blanket to sleep on the floor. It's better that way, and you don't want to lay on dirt in your nice-smelling hair." He gestured to a couch further off for her to rest.

"I have sisters. Two on the Island. My twin and My best friend." She nodded, "sorry though that you don't have your family here...It must be lonely."
She nodded, "You like Dr. Stephan then?" She tried to follow the babble that came out, grinning as he pretty much demanded they take to the couch. Well she wasn't one not to oblige, moving her way over there and putting her long braid over the back of it.
"Nice to meet you Melvin..." She gestured to the seat next to her. "You talk a lot you know? Kind of a babble run on? It's cute." She chuckled. "Hey...you look familiar...weren't you the one yelling at Otto during the meeting?" The meeting of sensitive things...
Oh s**t....was he one of the affected people.

He moved and sat down on the couch beside her, and smiled. "That's very nice and lucky that your sister is on the island. I sometimes wish I was that lucky, but that would have meant my siblings had been tormented like I was by shadows, and I worked very hard for them to never have that happen. I like to think they are better off now without me, and living nice, normal lives. I still miss them though." He sighed, but tried not to make this about himself. People. He had to be more sensitive to people. "It's nice your sister braids your hair. I wish more women on the island were nicer to each other and taught them to be more like women than a few on the island. Not being gender stereotyping, but a few young women on the island don't even know that they should wear shoes or do their own laundry more often."
He wished they could all be mentored by bigger sisters.
The smile was crushed at the mention of arguing, and he looked down, ashamed. "Yes, I yelled at Otto. I apologized, but he shouted at Rep, and Rep is my best friend. Otto and I haven't gotten to talk much, but he usually gets angry. I felt he was going through one of those phases teenagers go through, but now I have to wonder how old he really is because he seems older than how he looks since he said he had been with someone. I think he needs to drink more milk too and take vitamins. I left some at his door. I hope he gets them in time." As if Otto's very future relied on it.

"It is! It should be. She's the reason I came to this...Island in the first place. Ever since we were young, we both faced the same shadows, the same darkness." She looked over at Melvin, "It was always easier when she was around to help me. To support both of us together."
She thought of a normal life. What her parents must be doing. it was sad that the only one she missed more was her mom, even if their dad had been a good one...just went about it the wrong way.
"It would've been better for you too probably, you shouldn't take so much on yourself!" Nevada studied him as he spoke and tried not to sputter at the whole Laundry and nice shoes thing. Some women, and especially the lifestyle they lived, were just not cut out for housework!
"I do agree about the nicer part? Though I've only met girls who are just as nice to me as everyone else. Very charming people."
"I think...Otto is just fine the way he is." She stiffened, "Aren't you worried that perhaps you have many faults too? What about your argument with your...was it your girlfriend?"

He looked at her, suddenly very serious. "Yes." He said, as if wary. "She is my....girlfriend." He didn't like that this girl was bring that matter up. "Rin wasn't talking to me and decided to just blurt out troubles to everyone in the room. She's not without faults too. It wasn't like I had much of a choice to not go out with her after all. I'm not perfect either, but at least I don't go around killing people like some hunters around here. I handle things okay I guess."
He suddenly felt uncomfortable and looked around and then back at her. "Why? Are you saying you notice faults in me? We just met. You aren't a profiler or anything."
