-tosses a couple out- (quote me if you reply, I'ma derp!!)

Dante: He hated the cold, so bitter and biting him like icy jaws of death. Just give him the kiss of death and be done already! Okay, maybe he was being a tad be overreactive...but honestly, how long did this godforsaken season have to take? Hissing under his breath, his fragile wings tender from the cold, he seeked a shelter.

Destry: Oh, oh wow. It was all so glorious, so pristine and falling so gentle, like little angels falling all around him, and the yearling stallion pranced and danced through the fluff, kicking up his heels in joy. Paying no mind to his grandfather, who looked positively sour. How could he hate winter?

Cyanide Stardust: The cold didn't phase her, just ruffled through her fur like fingers, a small comfort. She was, in a way, like the snow. Lost and adrift in the world. Her mind was a hazed over blur, a snowstorm of static and forgotten memories.

Naberius padded out into the meadow. Usually his paws made his gate rather quiet, but in the light dusting of snow he was virtually silent. He didn't mind the cold much; his thick fur kept him protected form the elements, though they did make his nose and ears sting. The eyes on his wings stayed closed as well, to avoid the wind.

He lifted his head and took a deep intake of breath, smelling for others.

Cyanide: As the wind blew past her, carrying whirlwinds of snow, the scent of another fled across her path. A scent that made the hair at her hackles stand on end, uncertainty spiking through her, torn between standing her ground and flitting off into the woods...but she wasn't a coward. At least, she thought she wasn't... She wasn't quite sure anymore. So she kept her tail low and stood still against the wind, pale eyes searching for the other wolfkin.

Contrary to what many might think, Ashling LOVED the cold.... and especially, the fiery mare loved the snow. It was one of the few times that she felt comfortable enough to venture down from her rocky mountain to venture out into the world and attempt - though usually failing horribly - to make friends.

The snow blanketed the land, and wet it - which meant that her fiery hoofsteps couldn't set dry grasses ablaze or set twigs to kindling. She had learned the hard way that in the long hot summers, while the heat didn't bother her so much, she had to stay alone... and alone was hard.

But as she put one hoof in front of the other, up to her knees in snow, she smiled as the icy drifts hissed and melted around her, raising pafts of steam. Her tufted tail whisked behind her, strafing the surface of the snow behind her as she pricked her ears and ventured out into the world to see who she might meet.

And from the smell of it, another one who shared his wolflike features. It was a subtle difference, but nonetheless something he had been rather good at spotting.

A memory of Vanrui flitted across his mind. She was the last Pawed One he had met, and actually grew a connection to. He was rather inept at relationships...connections...friendships. Whatever you would call them. His father had done his best, but he was far from being an affectionate role model.

His large eyes opened on his wings, helping him scan the area until he spotted the mare.

Then another scent... one of fire, burning. A singing, subtle smoke drifted on the air; which was exceptionally strange considering the season

Destry: He of course didn't scent the wolves, but the smokey tinge of fire caught him off guard. He lifted his head and gazed around, wings flitting a little nervously; where was fire coming from--it was winter. Wouldn't the snow, the cold and the wet dampen a fire's might? He let off a snort, unsure if he wanted to tiptoe away carefully...or go explore it. He, unlike Cyanide, was a tad bit of a coward.

Taking a deep breath and holding it, he took off through the snow in search of the fire--only to find himself staring at something he'd never possibly imagined. A mare...and she was on fire. "A-Are you okay, miss?" he called, wide-eyed.

Cyanide: She knew the moment his eyes--though it felt like more than one set, by the chills running down her spine--landed on her. She turned and saw him, a large, winged beast glowing red, almost as if an internal fire was lit within him. Straightening up, she stepped forwards, taking the stranger in. The fiery scent...well she thought that was coming from him. "Is...this your territory?" she asked, her voice soft and almost husky.

It commanded attention, regardless. "Territories are just invisible walls with invisible meaning." This was something he had said before, something he parroted back before. It was ingrained in his upbringing; being a wanderer he never had a 'home' of sorts. Nor did he have the desire to join a herd, which seemed a near requirement to get a descent territory. He wouldn't be controlled by anyone if he had any say.

Unlike the canines, or even the flutters, a downside to Ashling's fiery countenance was that the sharp scent of her own fires and the smoke that often followed her tended to overpower other scents. Her scent didn't bother her so much - she had always had it, after all. But it just meant that her sense of smell was virtually useless.

But in the snows, a sense of smell wasn't always quite so necessary. Against the white blanket over the world, colors stood out sharply.

Ashling stopped still, her eyes widening in surprise and barely-contained excitement as she encountered the floral stallion. "Oh... oh my!" She twittered as she blinked over to him, an awkward smile on her face. It took her a moment to process what he meant. "Oh me? No... no no, the fire doesn't hurt. Er... not me at least..." She hesitated, making sure she didn't get too close. She blinked at the lovely flower on his mane. She did love flowers, but she had learned the hard way that she couldn't get too close to them - not if she wanted them to stay pretty.

Her ears pricked as she looked over the meadow, catching the sight of other figures further off... though... they moved strangely, and Ashling shuffled from foot to foot, deciding to stay close to this young stallion instead.

Destry: Jumps back as the flaming mare comes forwards, a little skittish. She smelled like a bonfire, thick and smoky and he still wasn't sure whether or not he was safe around her. It wasn't until she spoke--so chipper and friendly and...not monster-ish--that he chilled out a bit, a silly smile on his face. "How do you not get burned? Would I get burned?" On that question, he reached out his muzzle, bringing it close to her until he felt the burn. "Oh. Oh wow. You're on fire..." He laughed, shaking his thick mane. She was so warm. "That's really cool. Um. I'm Destry." Sheepish. "Does the snow bother you?"

Cyanide: She wasn't sure whether to make herself comfortable in the stallion's presence, or if she should maybe keep her distance. But she missed...she missed something about this, the comfort of pack--even if they were perfect strangers. She hadn't met another wolf, not since... She blinked, lost trying to dredge up memories. She couldn't remember. Damnit. "I see," she said, shaking her head. She let out a small chuckle. "So no pack. You're on your own, just your paws and the earth?" She didn't mean for it to be prying, she was just...curious.

"Oh oh! Please, be careful!" Ashling chirped as the stallion grew close. "I... I'm so sorry... I can't help it. It's just the way I am." Her ears lowered and she looked genuinely apologetic, "It doesn't hurt me, but I'm afraid that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt other people... and things..."

She shuffled one of her hooves in the snow. As she stood still, the piles around her legs were slowly melting. And while it seemed to be keeping the fire on her hooves out for the moment, as she lifted one in demonstration, it slowly caught again. "The snow doesn't bother me. It... it's actually kind of nice. Means I can't set the grass on fire." She gave him a half-smile.

"Oh Oh! Name! Do you have one? My mother called me her little Ashling... so I guess that's who I am. Ashling."

"I'm not opposed to company, I just don't rely on it for survival," he said, as if to clarify. He looked her over again, and relaxed his posture. He did feel more comfortable around those who shared some of his more predatory features; it made him feel less like a misfit (not that he would ever admit it).

"And you? There are others like you around?" Vanrui had been part of a large and dangerous herd, something that ultimately called her back from his side. As if he needed any more reasons to despise those controlling institutions...that was another one.

`Swirly
Brande

Oblivious to whatever was going on around him, and feeling complacent in the fact that he has been safe with any strangers that he has met, Brande bolted up to the flaming mare with wide-eyes... "You're on fire too!"

Ashling blinked in utter surprise as a stray colt bounded up to her. She rarely saw other soquili, and even MORE rarely foals. But this one... She nearly couldn't believe her eyes- at first her mind went to somehow - SOMEHOW she had managed to set another soquili on fire. But no...

"Are you... like me?" SHe gasped. She'd never seen another soquili with live flames before. Not even her mother had them.

`Swirly
Brande wiggled his little butt back and forth and grinned happily up at the mare. "What do you mean am I like you? I'm a boy!" Obviously oblivious to his hair being unusual, Brande continued to dance in place. "You should see my dad and my sister! Their flames are blue; mine is red like my mamma's!"

Ashling breathed, "Your whole family has flames?" She was amazed, and more than a little jealous. Her chin wibbled and some steam seemed to sizzle under her eyes. It was such a foreign concept. "But no... no I'm a girl- you're right. But... my dam didn't have fire like me... she was a black kirin... though she had scales on her back that shone orange in the sun almost like fire..."

"Are you lost?" She suddenly realized, not seeing another fiery soquili around.

`Swirly
The foal grinned at her and then blinked in a bit of confusion. Was the adult about to cry? That wouldn't be good at all.... Crying wasn't good.... Pawing the ground for a moment Brande offered a sunny smile; counting on it to negate any tears, "Oh.. My da, ma, sister, and gramma all have fire for their manes 'n' tails...." A pause, "Oh an' me. -- How does yours work? Mine's only dangerous if I get mad or scared."

Ashling shook her head quickly, dismissing her tears. She just felt so strongly seeing this little colt and hearing of his family.

"That's so beautiful." She smiled, "And... I wish mine were like that. I don't have any control over it. It's... it's fire." She said with frustration. "I live up in the mountains where it's mostly rock, with sparce plants and lichens to eat..." An ear flicked back. "But the snow is nice... it means I can come visit." She smiled.

`Swirly
Brande nodded his head vaguely behind himself and thought about how boring it would be to live in the mountains. "Oh... well that's awful... but we live on the beach... not much really catches fire with all the sand! You should come to the beach! You can meet my dad and mom and..." A bored eyeroll, "My sister." Brande wandered off on his own fairly frequently now that he wasn't fresh from the basket and he had learned how to get around, "I'm Brande, Fire Brande by-the-by... Wanta come visit?"
