One job, Tohru. He griped to himself as he sulked away from the "battlefield." One job. Bring Kasen home something he could cook for dinner. And he'd failed. He'd expected failure, of course, but knowing that his brother had been relying on him, and he hadn't been able to come through, stung him a little bit. How disappointed would Kasen be? The Kiandri was sure that his brother had genuinely believed in him. It was sad yes, that anyone should believe in someone as hopeless as he, but Kasen had. Tohru could feel heat come to his cheek, a tiny well of tears springing forth. He couldn't do anything. Not for his mother or Amara, not even for Kasen, who had so much good in him and only deserved the best of everything. He didn't want to be useless... Certainly didn't mean to be... But the Uruus were just cute and fluffy and sweet. The thought of him actually killing one of them and then carrying its dead carcass all the way home was... horrid. Creepy. Necessary. He had to go back. Had to give it another shot. The Uruu would surely forgive him as long as he made use of it, right? And Kasen... Kasen would be pleased. That should be more than enough to fuel his resolve.
Tohru tipped his gaze to the sky. One last attempt was probably all he had time for today... It would be getting dark soon enough, and he had absolutely no intention of being out here with the scary night prowlers, unless he had somewhere to tuck away in. But the little Kiandri didn't know this place. Still didn't trust this darkness like he could trust the blackness of his own bedroom. If he failed, he'd just have to find something leafy to take back with him. And that wouldn't be so bad. Kasen hadn't specified the type of food, so maybe... He wouldn't be angry...?
The boy turned on his heel, letting his feet carry him back to the green valley. He'd probably done a fine job of scaring all the Uruus off, so he's just have to wait and stalk and be patient like a real hunter... Hmph, yeah, right. Even Tohru knew he couldn't be that cool guy that crept along the ground out of sight! If he couldn't sneak up on them, maybe... someone else could...? he did have a tiny assist on this adventure. "Tennor...?" Tohru whispered softly, tipping his head back as if that would enable him to actually see the little dragon atop his own head. "Can you help me...?" He asked. Only a moment later, he felt the tiny smooth body uncoil from his horns, and the Fae's tiny face was poking down to look him in the eye.
"The Uruu... I have to find one, and bring it home to Kasen for dinner... But... I don't have a good sense of smell like you... And my magic is too weak to be able to sense things, yet... Please... Will you fly and find one for me?" He asked softly. Tennor was smart. Tohru knew he was, even though he'd never given him such a task before. But the teeny dragon had always seemed like he had some intelligence sparkling in his eyes. Maybe enough to follow commands. The little Celestial Fae slipped from atop Tohru's head, fanning his wings to steady himself and then sailing off over the greenery. Tohru could only hope he returned quickly. But for now, he tucked himself in a bush to wait. Tennor would surely know to smell for him when he returned.
It couldn't have been long. Maybe only a half an hour or so when the Fae's trill drew his attention. Tohru peeked up from his hiding spot in time to see his companion... playing with the Uruu. Tohru's heart clenched. It was painfully adorable. Didn't Tennor know that those were food and not friends? Would he be upset if Tohru attacked them... Just like before, there were another group of three. Maybe that was family-sized. The Kiandri's tiny mouth set into a frown. He knew they were food, but...
Slowly, he ambled over to them. Unlike before, this group didn't express any degree of fear toward him. Maybe because Tennor carried his scent so strongly, and the little Fae was already tussling playfully with them. Tohru knelt down to the uruus' level, and within a matter of moments, one of them hopped directly into his lap. Tohru squeaked in alarm, but the fluffy creature did a quick spin, then hopped off again, obviously meaning no harm.
They were too cute. Too sweet, and innocent, and fluffy. he reached out to pet one, and though it shied away at first, soon it eagerly pressed back against his palm. Killing one of these defenseless creatures was out of the question. Someone else could do it. Kasen would forgive him if he just explained how harmless these little uruus were. But maybe... if he was really lucky... they'd just follow him home. He wouldn't have to kill them, but Kasen could. And he'd still get dinner. Tohru rose slowly. He carefully turned his back to them. Tennor was quick to resume his post atop the Kiandri's head as he started walking away. The Dovaa paused briefly to check if he was being followed, but all his saw was the cluster of uruus scurrying off back into the grass. He sighed. Leaves and berries it was, then.
