Winter was a time Saphira was fond of. Although it was silent, it allowed for much introspection on her part. The past year had been a busy one and there were so many new faces that came and went through events and experiences. She kept herself busy by helping those that needed her and expanding her knowledge as much as she could. In her mind it had been a good year, so now was a time to consider what the next year would bring for her.
She was a creature who believed in knowledge. Others brought her knowledge, and the baggage and burdens they carried only taught her more throughout the years. She would be the first to admit that her life was not the craziest of sorts, so it was easier to almost live throughout the happiness, pain or sadness that others shared with her. Some would find this way of living odd, but for Saphira it worked for the best. She knew where her strengths were, and her mind was her masterpiece that she was always shaping and growing daily.
For today, she was quietly admiring some light snowflakes as they fell from the dusted trees. She felt comfort in being amongst the forest. To be out in the open during the winter time felt too glaringly white. As she paddled forward slowly, her hooves crunched from left to right.
A new day meant a new adventure, and she looked ahead in wonder of what that could bring.

Smaug shifted slowly from the mountain range that he wandered away from. He knew his flight would be able to take care of the boundaries and keep anyone away that dared come too close. But the protector and alpha? He needed some time in the open air. He glared back over his shoulder toward his home, shook his head, and continued forward, large wings folded tight against his back. His tail lashed behind him, his head lowered slightly. He wasn't certain what he was going to do, but he had to get out for some time.
The mighty dragon paused in his march, his eyes flickering slowly about the area. He didn't like the snow. Didn't like the smell or the feel, the cold. He usually loved death, but in this form... it was sleep. Everything was frustrating. His ears pinned for a moment, fangs bared as smoke moved from his nostrils. This was far more boring than he thought. All white and pretty. If he had fire near him, he would burn it all. Charred trees were far better than sleeping ones. He glared at those that were around him, before shaking his head. He moved around the patches, searching quietly. Perhaps he could go spy on some of the dwarves... but from what he remembered, they had moved to the other side of the mountain range, far out of the reachings of his claws.
Said claws flexed slightly as he chuckled under his breath. Smaug enjoyed the feeling of having people fear him. He glanced around, before spotting something not far off. Something moving. Hunger struck him, though he didn't act at first. It was blue, not a common color for the food he caught around these parts. He sniffed lightly, before shaking his head, a grunt falling from his features. He moved forward slowly, claws breaking the firm snow into small pieces. What was that creature... He sniffed the air, forked tongue slipping out for a moment to test the air. It was something familiar, and yet different. Draconic, he could tell that much. Though not one he knew...

Saphira was quick to feel her senses react to the other Soquili presence. Once she smelled the new scent her eyes and head surveyed the area with great detail. She was scanning for movement and change in the landscape, and finally she saw a large creature in the distance walking towards her current area. She contemplated the best way to react, and decided to hold her ground with her usual calm confidence. If needed she was a fighter with strength, but lucky for her others were not always in a rush to test their own skills due to her appearance and her difference in traits.
Many Soquili mistook her for a Kalona and so far that only meant serenity and quiet unless she told them she meant them no harm. Then she was able to have her experiences and learn from them. She supposed this situation could be handled in a similar fashion?
The more the other creature approached her the more she realized how similar he looked in attributes. Scales and impressive wings... Had she found another like her? This was a rare occasion and she felt some giddiness arise in her overall stature. The wiser part of herself knew she was not in the clear of a safe situation, so there was no need to get ahead of herself. First thing was first- she needed to survey this stallion and see what he was all about.
"How do you do?" She finally said, while bowing her head with manners as he drew closer. "Do my eyes deceive me? I can't believe I am seeing another like myself..."

Smaug was not one to step lightly. Those around him catered to him; and if they didn't, they burned. He didn't have his fires with him now; they resided deep within his cave. But he was a beast among men. He was tall, and dark. His claws as sharp as spears, and his teeth like swords. He could destroy everyone if he wished. His tail could strike as sudden and deadly as lightning, his wings beating so hard that it could knock the air from a creatures lungs. He snarled low in his throat, his eyes narrowing dangerously toward the mare that had spotted him. So it was another dragon; though he did not recognize her. His tail flicked lightly behind him, slithering like a snake, before it stilled momentarily. He lowered his head some, baring his teeth toward the mare that moved forward, and then flexed his claws. He could kill her easily, if he wished.
As she spoke, the great dragon frowned. He felt smoke shifting out of his nose. It wisped around his face for a moment, before disappearing. He frowned lightly at the mare, his wings shifting once more over his back. Well, how interesting. She had never seen another dragon? That meant that she had no use for him. She was alone and in that, would not lead him to more dragons that could join his flight. He huffed lightly at the thought, lifting his head up to peer down at the blue dragon with dark eyes. "Like yourself? You think highly of yourself then! There is none as powerful as I!" He said, his voice a growling hiss.

Power was certainly not Saphira's guiding trait. She believed that wisdom and courage could overcome any brute force. These were traits she felt confident in so she had always focused on them more then strength. Although, the stallion in front of her did indeed look powerful, so she decided it was best to tread slowly in this conversation. She was rusty in any skill set of fighting so she'd most definitely lose.
"Forgive me for being confusing. I would not dare compare myself to one such as yourself." She kept her eyes on the stallion and prevented any kind of eye-roll to her words. "Does one as powerful as yourself have a name?" She paused while observing him a bit more. He was much larger with more muscles then most Kalona she had seen. "I am only a nuisance in your presence, sir, but a dragon myself." Probably the most opposite of dragon to this stallion, but perhaps that would make this more interesting-- or potentially fatal in her case.

Smaug's eyes flickered along the mare. He may not have been the smartest, but he was keen. His tail flicked lightly as he watched her seem to contemplate what was going on before her. Smaug was a powerful creature; one that very few could take down. He was large, and feral. Dark. Before the incident that crippled his powers, he could take down an army within a few minutes. His wings shifted as he adjusted his stance. For a moment, he debated on letting out a slight snap of a chuckle, but suppressed it.
He could hear the edge of... what was it? Annoyance? Sarcasm? Something, in her voice. It caused his eyes to narrow for a moment, and smoke to shift out of his nostril, before disapearing in the air. The compliments, though they could be taken as false, stroked his ego all the same. He smirked a bit toward the mare, his scales shifting somewhat as he flexed a few muscles as if to get flies from his form. "You have not heard of me? Shocking. I assumed all those within these lands had heard of me when I overtook the mountain. I am Smaug, the most fearsome fire drake in all the lands." He stated rather proudly.

It was not surprising that she had not heard of him. As of late Saphira had been very isolated and would come in contact with strangers when she ran into them by chance. That was her only way of hearing some worldly news or land chatter. She didn't mean to exclude herself but she hadn't made the largest effort to stay up to date on others and especially when those were as unique as Smaug. He was a chance encounter that she would cherish and hope to also survive.
"The error is my own for not knowing of you sooner. My time in these lands has been quiet and much less impressive." Her words were truthful and she was somewhat awed with the way he stated his title, and so confidently. To be a dragon such as himself was quite marvelous. He was fearsome indeed, but she liked his manner for what he stood for. A true fire drake, and with true power.
"It is a pleasure to meet one as strong as yourself." She bowed her head gently. "I am Saphira. I am grateful to be in your presence and learning about you." She paused gently. "I do hope I am not interrupting a mission or task of yours for the day?"

The dragon's eyes lingered on the blue creature. A dragon, she had said she was. But she was tiny compared to him... though most in this land were. That or he was just... unusually tall. His ear flicked lightly as she spoke, watching with amber eyes filled with fire. He shifted lightly on his claws, his tail slithering behind him. Smaug let a bit of smoke shift out of his nose as she spoke, watching as she bowed and introduced herself. His eye lingered for a moment, before he looked up and around the area. His ears flicked lightly toward her, before he frowned lightly.
"Of course it is. Saphira, hm? Interesting name." Smaug murmured, his eyes flickering along the other dragon. He glanced over his shoulder; back toward his mountain. He tilted his head some, frowning at the way it sounded rather quiet. His wings shifted along his back, before folding tightly against his belly and spine. He glanced back down toward Saphira, ear flicking once more. "I was hunting for my own meal. I grew tired of rabbits." He muttered, almost with a hint of disgust.

She could sense something in nature from the other creature. She noticed that he was always watching the area around them and adjusting his presence and stance. When he mentioned he was on the hunt, that made his gestures more clear, and also gave her a bit of a scare as she could have been a great target. Seeing as though she was still standing and speaking with him, she hoped she could keep him occupied as not to become any sort of prey for his hunt.
"There should be some good game around here. Just earlier I was scouting the area and I saw a bunch of deer scattered near the woods. Silly that they stand in such groups, only to slow each other down." Deer would make a much finer meal for the other dragon then rabbits. "If you'd like I can show you the location, its not too far? I'd offer to help on the hunt but you don't look like you need it at all." She smiled at him gently.

Smaug wasn't certain what was going on. His ears flicked slightly as he looked around. His nostrils flared slightly as he took in the smells around him. So that was it? There were deer around? She had said so. The dragon shifted some, his wings flaring for a moment, before folding more neatly against his back. His tail flicked lightly behind him, the spikes grazing the ground. His claws grazing the ground. He shifted a bit, before letting his gaze once more lock on the mare.
"Hm. Deer." He murmured somewhat. A slow smirk shifted over his features. Smaug hadn't had deer in forever. He licked his muzzle somewhat, his claws racking the ground again, before he turned his attention back to the mare. She seemed so keen on helping him; keen on making sure he was satisfied. It amused him greatly. His tail flicked again, his wings shifting somewhat, the clawed hands shifting to grab at the ground as he moved forward. He paused, before locking his gaze down on the smaller blue dragon. "Show me where these deer are. I would like to have deer at least once in this month of lesser food." He grunted, angrily glaring down at the mare. He wanted his food, and wanted it now. His eyes flickered back to the forests, moving in that direction. He could smell deer, though he couldn't pinpoint them.

Unlike the stallion who carried great strength and size, Saphira was a creature who specialized in strategy and thinking. She was very calculating and when it came to any objective and her success rate was rather large. She never rushed into a situation because she always understood all scenarios upfront. This was the way her brain worked, and although she may have lacked strength, she knew where her power resided.
In front of this stallion she was also feeling more calm and composed only because it was clear the hunger shift was successfully made towards the deer she had spotted, and now the stallion had no reason to attack her. If anything, she had proved herself worthy to the task, so it was up to her to show him any and all deer.
"Follow me." She finally said, while walking him quickly towards the area she spotted the creatures. "I'd say we'd take to the air because it is faster, but they would spot us immediately and disband, making the catch harder." She thought silently for a few moments before continuing. "I think its best we sneak up upon them unnoticed, and then you can takeover the rest. They won't be expecting you so you'll have the upper hand." She wasn't out looking for game like he was, but was glad to be of assistance to gain his trust.

Smaug watched the smaller dragon for several seconds, before he looked around some. He growled some, smoke easing from his nose. He silently wished that he had brought fire with him. Something to burn the creatures to a crisp. His tail flicked slightly, before he locked his amber gaze back on the mare. She seemed eager to please him, and it amused him greatly. As she started to move in the right direction, he followed, wings folded against his back.
Smaug frowned some as he glanced around. He took the air into his nose, taking in everything he could. He growled low in his throat. He could smell them... could smell his meal. He bared his fangs slightly, slowly moving forward and to the point that he got rather close to her, standing at her side. His wings flared some, before folding a bit as he looked down at her, eyes narrowing some. What did she mean he had to be sneaky? He could outrun anything; could kill anything. He huffed, smoke shifting out of his nose again as he waited quietly for her signal to attack. May as well try it her way.
