A morose, very glum man narrowly escaped the grocery store doors as the shut tight behind him. In his arms he clutched a bag of food- nothing really special, mind you- and he began his journey back towards his apartment.

It had been the most excitement he'd seen all days. After coming home from the pet store, Connor usually returned home and stared at the ceiling. Cooking occasionally offered him a bit of entertainment, but it was short lived. It was too ephemeral- having no one to share it with and all.

His fish were taken care of, of course. Even a depressed Connor could never let his fish die. But somehow they seemed to have lost their mirth, their spark of passion they provided him.

Oh well. Another day, another ceiling to stare at.

Normally, Labyrinthite didn't make house calls or visit agents when they disappeared from the maps but Connor was going to be his exception. He understood the spirally depression that resulted in hermitdom, he had been there only months ago and from what he had gathered, from all the recon he cared to do, Connor was experiencing something similar.

So the two-toned haired captain was making a personal visit to let the teen know the negaverse was there for him. That he, though they hadn't met yet, was there for him. The negaverse was his family and he wasn't going to let someone go through the same things he had, even if he wasn't so good at sympathizing any longer.

He reached Connor's home and rapped his knuckles against his front door.

Connor, simmering that someone had made him get up from his cat nap, grumpily went to the door to see who was bothering him. He hadn't had a visitor for ages, and he was content to keep it that way. For all her cared, he could waste away.

When he pulled open the door, he was greeted with bright blues and pinks- none of which were too surprising. It was the way the colors were arranged. A crisp military suit with decorations and a bright trim. He knew those colors.

He swung the door behind him and turned back to his bed. He didn't put enough force to shut the door all the way, but it was enough to give it a closing motion. "Not home," he grumbled, intent on going back to bed.

His hand shot out to keep the door from being shut on him. Though Connor hadn't put much force into it, Labyrinthite possessed not only the strength to keep it from closing but enough to shatter the wood if needed. "I would prefer it if you would just let me in, rather than having to force entry," he said coolly, masking his irritation at the boy's attempt easily. The vague idea of simply teleporting in, now that he'd had a brief glance inside, tempted him but instead he leaned forward.

"I would also prefer you make this visit easy, rather than difficult because I don't play so nice after a while," he warned, voice low and cautious. It was the one warning Connor would get from him. He took a moment to look the boy over and sighed. "Heard you've been absent, had some...personal things that are keeping you from the force," he stopped, batting his internal demons away to focus on him. "Wanna talk about it?"

He understood, to some degree, what personal s**t did to a person. Especially if it was as detrimental as his had been.

From the couch that he'd now flopped on, Connor picked up a pillow and threw at the captain, though he knew it'd do nothing at all.

"None of your business," he said brusquely, flipping over so he was laying on his back. "I was in the force, now I'm not." To Connor, that's all there was to it. "And I definitely don't want to talk about it."

It was rather irritating to Connor that Labrynthite- and arguably many of the higher ups- had been keeping tabs on him to this degree. It made him paranoid- did they watch him shower too? Really, he'd joined the negaverse on a whim, and now a more powerful feeling was deterring him from it- was it so hard to just leave him be?

Because Connor was no longer protesting his entrance, Labyrinthite let himself in and closed the door behind him. "It is my business. You don't get to pick and chose when you feel like participating," he replied, more harshly than intended. The Negaverse wasn't some club that could be left willy-nilly, it was a life-long contract. "Records don't indicate a discharge." He was trying to make the conversation sound a bit more realistic, undetectable if there were any open ears to be found.

"You don't always get what you want," the captain warned, edging closer to the boy. He had arrived with good intentions, but Connor's attitude was quickly wearing on his nerves and lately Laby hadn't been very good at keeping a lid on it.

He sighed, cleared his throat and tried one more time. "I'm try to reach out and help, shutting me out is ill-advised Connor."

Connor looked at the negaverse captain with disdain. "Why the ******** not?" It seemed wholly unfair that the negaverse just got to own him. "It's my life and I never signed a contract giving my life over."

He draped a tad more dramatically over the couch and said, "Don't really care if it's ill advised. I never followed advice anyways. So I'm shutting you out. Could you leave my apartment now?" He rolled his eyes, sarcastically adding, "I'd really hate to call the landlord."

Knowing full well that the landlady, sweet little Agnes, wasn't going to do a single thing about it AND that Labrynthite could rip her to shreds if he wanted, Connor said, "What's in it for me? 'Cause so far all I've heard is blahblahblah come back or else I'll pummel ya." Connor lazily yawned and said, "Doesn't sound too fun, honestly. You guys need to work on your marketing campaign."

So maybe Labyrinthite hadn't been the best choice to send to Connor because he was fully dedicated and invested in the cause of the negaverse. He wasn't trying to intimidate the boy into powering up and following orders, but it never occurred to the man with the pink stripes in his hair that the negaverse was optional. (Okay, that was a lie. When he first joined he treated the whole thing like some big game, but those times had passed and he'd grown.)

He was quiet for a moment while he listened to the angry teens rant. "It's true that the...faction has tendency to punish using physical force but there's more to it than that." He, for one, viewed it as an extended family that at it's core cared about the well-being of it's members. "Why did you join in the first place, what did you want to accomplish?"

Connor's eyes had glazed over by the time Labrynthite had finished talking. It was too boring.

"I joined 'cause Painite was hot and said it'd be fun. Now it's not fun." He shrugged, as relaxed as the day he'd joined. "Sorry if it's not the drama you were lookin' for."

A tiredness eased the tension keeping his body together, a heavy sigh escaping his lips as he just gave up. "I just ... I don't want this anymore."

Apparently Painite was a sorer subject for the captain, evidenced by the way his stony expression faltered and the corners of his lips tugged downwards. He had hardly interacted with the woman since their time in the dream-scape, in part due to his secrecy when it came to personal matters and her own aversion upon learning of Kaia. Since then he heard she had grown violent and unforgiving (though he did learn he was not the culprit behind her erratic behavior but another, older officer) and had seemed to go off the deep end as far as ruthlessness went (even by the Negaverse's standard).

"It could be fun, I joined initially to get back at a senshi with bigger, more elaborate pranks because I was able to pull off crazier things," he told Connor after a minute. Thinking about Painite bothered him but he didn't say anything about her. "It depends on how you approach it. I've been told that one of my fellow captains has been teaching youma's tricks to taunt civilians." He didn't approve but it sounded more entertaining than beating the s**t out of someone.

"I wasn't looking for drama, I was simply extending a hand if you wanted it. It's not an easy life but we are a family and we help our own."

"Youma tricks. Wow. That really does sound like fun," Connor commented sardonically, rolling his eyes way too dramatically for what the situation called for.

Maybe he was being a bit harsh. Labrynthite really was trying his hardest (sort of) out here, and Connor was beginning to feel like the antagonist. He never liked feeling like an antagonist, because he didn't believe himself to be a terrible guy. Rather, he much preferred to take no side at all.

Connor nodded, resolute in his observation. "Sorry, I'm being a d**k. It's not fair to you," he responded calmly. "I know you want to help I just ... I need a bit more time. Someone hurt me pretty bad. Don't go asking who-" He gave Laby one of his cocky smiles, something much more reminiscent of the old Connor. "-'Cause then I really have to kick you out."

He sighed, realizing that Labyrinthite was never going to leave him alone at this rate. "Look, I'll cut you a deal. Give me a few more weeks, then I'll come back willingly. No questions, no alarm, don't bother me every two seconds. Sound fair?"

The sarcasm didn't sit well with the pink haired captain but he didn't let it show. He kept his expression impassive, letting only his eyes give away any idea of what he was feeling. They were a darker gold, as they got whenever his mood fell. "It's not my place to pry," he replied, colder than intended. He knew what that was like.

When his father died, he hadn't been keen on talking about it. Eventually he did, but it took more time than he expected. "When you're ready, or you want to talk I'm here." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper with a scribbled number on it.

He listened to Connor's compromise and gave him an empty smile in response. "Okay." He was conceding, for now.

Connor calmly took the peace of paper he was being offered, finding it rather touching that Labrynthite would give him his human-form phone number. For the negaverse, the crystals would have been sufficient for communication, but a phone number was bona fide trust.

"Thanks," he said sincerely. Seeing as the door was still open, Connor left it to Labyrinthite to find the exit on his own.

With a casual wave, he said, "See you in two weeks, pinky."
