Al slid his phone closed and moved from his room towards the cafeteria, his pace brisk as he hoped he would catch up to the new girl along the way. At the same time, he worried she might try to talk to him about vampires, something he had zero interest in at all. Sorry Chantelle. This was going to be awkward. But she said she was a death right? All death was cool - except the lead.

Chantelle was indeed in the cafeteria, sitting with one of her books open on the table. This time it was 50 Shades of Grey and she had a tray of food to accompany it, though she hadn't actually touched much of it at all.

Al made his way to the cafeteria and scanned the room. He... wasn't entirely certain who or what he was even looking for other than a female death with maybe blue eyes? ******** twitter pics sometimes. He went over to the bar and filled his tray up into little mounds of deliciousness... then proceeded to scoot along the rows, looking each person over and staring almost expectantly for a moment at anyone who looked unfamiliar. If it was her, surely she'd respond.

Chantelle did notice Al when he walked in, Lawr was familiar with the other Death hunter and Chantelle herself had the excuse of a recognisable twitter picture to identify the guy. She looked up and gave him a long-nailed finger wave, today she had painted elaborate spiderwebs on her hands, both hands perfectly neat and even.

Sometimes being ambidextrous had its advantages.

She was of course dressed in hot topic clothing with carefully applied makeup. "Al?" she asked.

When he was noticed, he felt relieved and gladly made his way over. Once he got closer however... he couldn't hide the look of shock. He'd never seen anyone dressed like that before. At all. <******** hell. He didn't know how to begin to even interact with it other than sitting down with his tray and trying to stare at his food instead.

Up close her eyes were actually the colour or at least close to the colour on her twitter - she was wearing coloured contact lenses. When Al looked away she smiled, using an elbow to keep her book open while she leaned her chin on her hand. She apparently mistook Al's attention to his food as disparagement. "The food really is like, totally awful." she said with a wave of her free hand, "I don't know who cooks it but ugh they like, really aren't that good."

"I actually like it... it reminds me of when my mum actually like... tried cooking herself." He didn't begin to pretend she was a good cook. He took a spoonful and scarfed it down. Only once swallowed, he addressed Chant again. Unable to look at her, "Umm, you sure dress..." weird, freaky, like a Poundland store during Halloween, "...interestingly."

"It's awful." she said grimly. "My mom could cook better than this by like miles. But she didn't cook much. I cook better too. I don't know if its like, just the ingredients maybe that are like totally cheap."

She drummed her nails on the table. "If you like this stuff you'd love the things I could cook up for you."

At the mention of her attire again she pouted slightly, all sleek black lipstick and full lips. "I dress like this because I'm gothic. It's like totally a lifestyle choice, we look scary but like we are actually usually nice people. We just like to look cool like vampires and stuff. Does it bother you?"

Al perked right up at the conversation of better food. Certain reminders still nagged at him, 'nothing on this island is free', comes to mind the loudest. What could she want in exchange for this food? Political power against America? Al wasn't joining any other armies anytime soon so that would be wasted effort on her part. "W.... what kind of things?"

Then back to her clothes, a subject for which Al was utterly speechless really. He was too scared to come back to it despite his initial remark. Nope. He just smiled and nodded instead.

"Depends, I can make most things, it just takes finding the recipe like, I'm really good at like reading instructions and stuff." she smiled at him.

But neither was she going to let go of the clothing subject, looking hurt and saddened. "But what I'm wearing isn't offensive is it? I'm not like, dressed with all my bits hanging out the way some plastics do. I'm not hurting anyone I hope."

"Plastics?" Al asked innocently, hoping to dodge and weave a direct answer to her question.

There was a slight edge of impatience that came through in Chantelle's tone as she replied. "Yes, like, those blonde bimbos in skimpy clothes with their bits all on display. Like, obsessed with following trends and stuff. They are like barbie dolls and they are super fake."

She looked back to her book and turned a page with a nail.

"You aren't very talkative are you?"

Against Al's better judgement he had to ask, "Like goth?" She did make it sound like some sort of trendy style thing. It only made sense to seek out the variable which made them any bit different as far as trendy being a definer.

As far as her own question he shoveled another spoonful in his mouth. It gave him a moment to think of an answer. Swallowing, he replied, "Well, I don't meet new people very often." He tried to let her draw her own conclusion from that.

"Gothic isn't a trend okay." Chantelle said, sounding wounded. "It defies trends. We don't like, change how we dress every week, we dress how we want, as long as it makes us feel happy. I like the spike collars and stuff, it makes me happy. Plastics do it to be popular. We don't need to be popular." She finally picked up her sandwich, eyed it thoughtfully, nibbled a tiny amount and set it back down again.

"Nor do I, people on this island are like, really unfriendly, I wasn't making it up when I said they left a bucket of fish heads on my doorstep."

"I dress how I want too but I don't think I'm goth at all," Al said with a baffled glazed over look. "What am I?" He suddenly stretched his arms out at her for examination.

He kept that pose despite a change in subject, "Are you sure the fish heads weren't a gift? People here have weird tastes in gifts and uh. What do goths even like as gifts?"
