Zel had finally deigned to leave his room. He had read all of his personal library so it was off to the school's to fetch new literature. He'd had little desire as of late to leave his dorm. Though something told him he was being unfair to his friends. Obviously it had been some time since he'd last spoken to Rosy, Siku or even Tavi. Yes, he chided himself as he entered the library, going along the stacks carefully as to not upset the book bats or any of the other denizens that dwelt there.

It had been far too long. He'd become a hermit - all over some stupid feeling he couldn't quite explain. Some longing emptiness that he couldn't quite fathom. He'd done some research on the lock that had appeared over his heart - but had found nothing. He couldn't... remember why it was there.

Not that it mattered - it did nothing to interfere with his day-to-day life so it was of no issue. Huffing a bit, he walked down one set of stacks, not really looking at anything, and reached up for a book that had caught his fancy.

Wanting to escape the hustle and bustle, Lute had found refuge in the library. Simply skimming the titles of the books and minding her own business the approach of another hadn't caught her attention. After a moment or two of silent staring a title caught her attention and the short ghoul reached up on tippy-hooves to try to snag it.

The only problem with this was her hand connected with another and not the book. A rosy bloom dusted the ghouls cheeks at the touch, a soft flinch running her frame before pink eyes glanced to the owner of the other appendage. "Ah.." Lute really wanted that book, so for the moment she remained silent, awkwardly staring at the boil and getting redder by the minute as her strength to hold out for his apology first crumbled inwardly.

Zel inwardly cringed. Great - someone else wanted this book and it was a ghoul no less. He hadn't really noticed her as he'd come down the stack but - that really didn't matter now did it. So he started to run through the possible scenarios in his head.

He could just grab the book, smile and wave, walk off while looking like Siku... But that wasn't his style. He could apologize, and let her have the book, but he really wanted to read it.

Jack this was a problem.

Finally, he knew he would have to speak, the ghoul was staring at him and it was starting to reach a level of social awkwardness that even he couldn't stand. He wasn't Rosy's brother Jackdammit.

"Did... Did you want to read this?" He asked, equitably, pulling the book out of the stack and looking it over. "Cause I have more than a passing interest myself. It's not like we can cut it in half and share it... But."

Gaaaaaah, it was hard to talk to ghouls. He didn't know why - he never had problems with Rosy or his friends back home. "How about we find a table and negotiate? I'm not inclined to give this book up, but I'm not so unfair as to lay claim on it without taking your arguments into consideration."

He smiled then, trying to be friendly. But he felt like this was just going to end with him giving her the book. "Oh, you can call me Zel, by the way - might be a good idea to swap names before we get into a debate about book ownership rights."

When the question of reading arose all she could do was look away finally and nod her head. Great it had to be a demon, a huge, huge one at that! He must have been seven foot tall, confident judging by his wording, Lute sighed softly to herself in envy. It must be nice, she thought on a peek up to the boil.

He was right though, they couldn't cut it in half but sharing wasn't so bad was it? Then again he was a demon, Lute frowned slightly chewing on the inside of her lip as she gazed silently upon the boil. Maybe he didn't want to read with a monster, and was just trying to smooth talk her into surrender? Either way all the talking was making her super nervous! Enough to have her brushing her hands against her shirt.

Negotiate? Argument? Lute's eyes widened with each word, her breath catching in her chest and making a tight knot. She didn't want to argue or negotiate! She just wanted to read the book but now she just wanted to go back into her dorm and hide. The ghouls ears drooped slightly, tiny tail twitching behind her but again she nodded in agreement, since it was all she could do. "Oh...ok Zel.." Lute answered finally with words, her tone soft and sugary sweet but nervous, "that's ..well...ok...if you want t-to maybe we could..just.." Lute fizzled and pulled her arms up to wrap around her chest, holding herself before she shut up and looked ahead towards a table. "Ok..I- I mean, I'm Lute.." With that she started to move to sit at the table.

Now he felt bad... No, no, That wasn't right. Zel felt horrid. The ghoul was so shy and he probably looked like a walking wall. He tried his best to minimize the size difference, tucking his wings tight against his body and trying to keep his tail out of the way as best he could. But it was hard to do with the horns and the sheer fact that he was tall. He wasn't one to slouch - unfortunately.

He stopped at the table and pulled a seat out for her, next to him, before sitting down himself. Hopefully she'd take the hint that he wasn't scary, though he wasn't going to lie - it amused him that she was so nervous around him. Then he felt guilty again and any sense of joy was tainted by that mere fact.

This wasn't any fun - how did Siku even manage this? Oh right, he was shameless. Completely without honor... How did Rosy even stand him?

Wait he was going off on a mental tangent that was never good. Shaking his head slowly he placed the book between them and smiled at Lute. "It's a pleasure to meet you Lute. I haven't seen you around before are you new to the school?" It was also entirely possible that the ghoul just didn't come into the library at the same time as he did and he was making himself look like an a** - but it was a safe gamble.

It took a moment before Lute trusted the civil gesture of the chair, but after Zel sat down she was fairly certain it wasn't a demon trick. Taking a seat, she scooted a bit away from the boil but smiled gently while doing so, so not to offend, just she needed a bit more room and didn't want to get hit with those wings. Clearing her throat gently rosy orbs trailed to a nearby shelf, favoring reading the spines as opposed to simply staring at the boil and waiting.

Thump.

The soft sound of the book being placed between them brought her attention back. Glancing to Zel she noticed the smile and gave one back, so far so good right? "You too... Ah.." Lute sighed and looked to her sleeved covered hands, blushing a bit before it vanished. "I-is it that obvious?" Lute frowned a little, eyes going slightly pouty as she peered up to Zel, whispering more to herself, "I-i thought I was dong ok.." In hiding it.

Now she really just wanted to go to her dorm, though she was a little curious now if he was an older student. Since she had already found out recently that you couldn't simply judge by appearance here at Amity. "A-are you..new, Zel?" Whispering the question she gazed at him, hopeful for a yes.

Zel had to resist the urge to reach out and pat the poor girl on the head. She was almost as bad... No - she was worse than Tavi to being completely and unnecessarily adorable. Why did he always seem to attract small cute things? He didn't ask for this!

"No, no, it's not obvious or anything - I just haven't seen you around here," He said, chuckling warmly. "I'm still in my first year, but I've been here awhile, kind of taking my time and absorbing as much as I can."

"So I wouldn't say I'm new, but I'm not an veteran either," He said, smiling at Lute and turning the book toward her.

"So how should we share this? Do we want to take turns reading it and then pass it back and forth to each other? Read it together while we're here? I don't know how fast you read, I'm a pretty quick reader," He chuckles softly.

"It's just nice to meet someone who's got good tastes in literature you know?"

"Ah..t-that makes sense." Lute shied away again, hitting herself mentally. Of course he hadn't seen her around, this was one of the first times she wasn't lost in crowd of bodies or hiding away in her dorm. On a gentle chuckle she shook her head, offering while doing so, "I think..that's a good plan though..why-y come to school and just breeze through..?" You didn't really retain much that way did you? At least she didn't think so.

At the turn of book her brow rose, smile turning back into a soft frown as she re-read the cover. It was a book she certainly wanted to read, but her floppy ears were already drooping in thoughts of an actual argument over keeping it. With a glance to the demon she shrugged softly and scratched her cheek sheepishly. Sharing was good! At the idea the ghoul lit up, her tail thumping softly against the bottom of her chair. "Y-yes..sharing.." She replied though failed to mention which idea he had proposed. After realizing her mistake she laughed softly, nervously then whispered out, "we can...um...try reading it together while we are here?" Maybe they could keep up with one another, Lute wasn't one to brag but being able to speed read was one of her few hidden talents.

"I...."
Lute smiled and nodded, her ears swaying gently with the motion then settling back to blend in with her shaggy haircut. "Y-yes...maybe...i-if you'd like we can.." She paused having to encourage herself to press on mentally, 'come on ghoul, you can make friends, go on and ask him!' "That is...m-maybe we can trade books sometime..I have..um..in my dorm..I have some g-good ones." Fizzling after the exhausting task of asking she looked down to the table, cheeks flushing again and fingers peeking out from her sleeves to poke at the cover of the book between them.

Zel slowly pushed the book toward her until it was sitting right in front of her. "Here," he said with a light chuckle. "How about you read it first, and then pick your favorite book out of your collection at your Dorm, and then we meet back up and you trade them both to me for one of my favorites?"

His other hand reached out and gently ruffled her hair a bit. He would have liked to read with her while they were there - but he wasn't sure he could take being that close to something with this high level of cuteness. He had enough trouble with Tavi and his need to curl up everywhere, the last thing he wanted was a misunderstanding as to the nature of their relationship.

Ghouls were trouble - he vaguely recalled Siku advising him - but as for why he couldn't recall. Shaking his head a little, he slowly pulled his hand back as he resisted the urge to keep patting her hair. It was soft and...

No, no - he wasn't going to do this. He simply put his hands on the table and smiled at her. "Sound good?"

A trade of favorites? That she could do, it seemed simple enough at least and he was nice enough to allow her first dibs. Smiling gently the ghoul gave a nod of head, only to pause abruptly when the boil's large hand landed on it. A soft eep sounded and the ghouls flinching gave away she expected the worse to come, not a ruffle at all.

Hands clenched tightly over the book before her Lute opened her eye slowly, unable to remember when exactly they shut. Peeking up to Zel a blink was given before she relaxed and actually leaned up into the ruffle much like a needy mini. It felt good after all and Lute was not opposed to doing things that felt good because that was just silly.

"Ok...trading books." she finally answered on a soft sigh already missing the petting and pouting slightly to see if she could get more. Though as his hands rested on the table she gave up, eyes going back to the cover of the book before opening a page. She came here to read after all, and was still a bit curious at how fast Zel read. "I will start now..w-when ..do you want to meet up again?" Blushing faintly for a moment the ghoul reached into her pocket and fumbled out a jeweled bright pink skelly phone. Sitting it on the table between them she gave a smile to Zel before pushing her nose into the book nervously. "Y-you can..p-put in your number?"

Zel smiled, pulling out his own red and black eyePhone and sliding it over to Lute. "Only if you do likewise," He chuckles, before snatching her phone up and imputting his own number into the phone with the contact name of Zel.

He had taken note that she hadn't minded the hair ruffle, which was good. He slid her phone back to her when he was finished, then reached back over to ruffle her hair again.

"I'm free most of next week, so whenever you're free? You can always just text me or give me a call," he chuckled, letting his claws gently rake over the monster-girl's scalp like he was petting Norris. It felt about the same anyway, the way Lute seemed to take to it.

Glancing from the book to the phone she nodded. It was only fair, besides it meant that she'd have at least one kind of friend! Excited with the prospect she reached for the phone and carefully inputted her own number and name. When her phone was slid back she returned his and leaned into the ruffle once more.

The claws getting the good parts of her scalp had the ghoul humming softly in delight. It kind off felt like Papa with claws, Zel's hand was warm and much larger than her own so it felt nice. Twiddling her thumbs in her lap now she glanced slowly up to the boil so not to knock his hand off her head.

"I think-k that will be mostly ok...I-i..don't do much other than-n classes at the moment." She didn't bother hiding she was kind of hermiting away right now, not to Zel since he seemed much the same. Or that was the feel that came from the other. "I'll send you a text-t then." Shifting her gaze back to the book she smiled gently.

"Um-m...maybe if you want..we-e can even find two separate books to read sometime, of the-e the same thing I mean..and-d then talk about it? Like..a private book club-b?" Was that to much? Luckily she whispered it so if it was he could just pretend not to hear her. Blushing she turned a page in the book, reading it to hide her embarrassment in want of a friend.

The mention of a private book club earned Lute a scratch lightly behind her ears. "I like that, I don't really have a lot in the way of extracurricular activities so that works out perfectly," He smiles down at the ghoul, giving her a friendly wink. "It can be our little secret club."

It was nice to meet someone with similar tastes - and habits - as he. But unfortunately, good things eventually had to come to an end. Slowly pulling his hand from Lute's head, he slowly starts to stand.

"Welp, I'm gonna go find another book to peruse while you enjoy this one, and we can meet up again later this week? Sound like a plan?"

Hey eyes widened as the hand left, a small whimper escaping for the loss of pleasure. "..Oh-h.." Seeing him stand she smiled a little disappointingly but rose as well, pulling the book up. She should get back to her dorm as well, maybe start reading now in private so that she could read aloud like she liked the best. "Sounds like a plan.." She finally whispered, giving the boil a small wave before taking off herself. It had been a good day, that was clear by the huge smile she wore as hugging her book to her chest.

Friend making. It wasn't really so hard...maybe.
