It was cold with the wind blowing, which begged the reason as why Randi was going to the library to use their computers. She had her own at home, but considering she wasn't at home, nor would she be heading there anytime soon, the library was the best spot. The library was right just right for her, not too big feeling, but not super small. Smiling, she headed right to the first available computer, logging on to do her job searching. Though more or less, she was just messing around instead of doing what needed to be done. Even with a nice summer job, Randi still had to look for work in the off season. Not pleasant to do all the time, but still had to be done.

Giving a sigh, she went to one of the many websites that would show that she was looking for work. The sounds of soft giggles from others reading emails and keys being tapped were the back ground noise for her, as the woman scanned over job after job. "Ugh, I can't wait until the season starts again."

She really should have known better. Hunching deeper into her coat, Amelia smiled and thanked the librarian despite her heart sinking. It was too much to hope that there might be a position available, even a part time or temporary position. It was just another hit on a list of several attempt's she had made today, her feet stinging as if she had been dancing on pins and needles all morning from both cold and shoes that were too worn out to be comfortable.

Another bites the dust,” she muttered bitterly, turning from the desk to see if any computers were open. Even Amelia wasn't sure if she meant the words in resentment or if a random song had popped in her mind to distract her from her frustration.

Seeing a couple monitors available, the young woman signed her name on the check in sheet and sat down between two others. The lamenting from the woman on her left caught her attention, causing Amelia to smile sympathetically as she logged into the computer.

That makes two of us.

Randi hadn't noticed the woman come over, so the statement caught her a bit off guard. "You work seasonally too?" This was a first time of finding someone else who wasn't a co-worker, as a seasonal worker. "Pain in the rear, isn't? All the stuff you have to do in the off season."

She stretched in the most uncomfortable chairs there, staring at the screen. There was more she could do. A lot of things under her belt, but how to word it right with a resume, not her strong point. And that was what this site wanted.

"Mhmm." Amelia nodded, looking over her inbox with a thin thread of hope that something might pop up. Regardless of which off-season it was, it was hard to say. She really didn't feel like pushing to find out, either. The woman beside her seemed to understand the importance of the hunt, though, and was leaving her in peace for her own work. It was...pleasant. Nevermind that jobs were difficult to come by on any day.

So far, she had nothing. There was no notice on her email, nor had there been any calls.

"Probably just better off hoofing it, anyway," she muttered in dismay.

Glancing at the woman next to her, ideas floated around. It would be nice to have another working with them, maybe. "Have you tried looking at a job with the local park?" So she had looked, not fully on purpose, but the comment about walking around made her look a bit more. "Sorry, that was a bit nosy. I just couldn't help wanting to help you out."

Amelia turned her face towards the woman beside her, tilting it lightly as she considered the question with a raised brow. Tucking her hair behind her ear so she could see the stranger properly, she the homeless woman shook her head.

"It's all right. I can't say that I have, though.. Would they even hire anyone now?" She frowned, considering the thought. It was winter, hardly a warm and profitable season. Most places cut down on their staff during the downtime as much as possible. Would there really be a chance? Not to mention this woman was a stranger, trying to help her for no reason that she would claim. What was the catch?

Then again, Amelia desperately needed a job, so how could she not at least investigate the option?

She shrugged, remembering how much of a pain it was to get ready to find a job. If it hadn't been for her mother putting in a good word, plus taking care of the boss's mom after getting out, Randi would of still been job hunting. "I don't know if they would hire right now, but they should be showing if there are positions available." Looking at the woman a bit closer, Randi grinned. It wasn't fully easy for her to notice that the other needed a job, and there wasn't much going on during winter. Her pay it forward attitude popped out for this reason. "And if they are, I would be willing to help you out so you can get it."

Amelia really couldn't see a reason for the woman wanting to help her out for the fun of it, so it made more sense when she mentioned referencing her. Perhaps there was an at-work benefit for doing so? The only way to know was to find out for herself. It wasn't impossible that this woman wanted to help for the sake of doing so, just strange that she would go so far for a stranger.

"I see. Thank you." Her smile was polite as she turned off her email, tired of seeing junk mail and warnings for bills that were waiting for her once she had income - if they would bother waiting at all.

"I'll have to check it out, then." A faint smile touched her face, sprinkled with tied humor. "Can't hurt to try, right?"

Smiling back. It was easy to remember the struggles when she was still living under her mother's roof, and it had been a couple of years. "It will work out in the end. If you don't see me around, here is my email and number." Quickly jotting it down, while still being able to read it, Randi handed over a scrap of paper with the info. "If you need the help or for whatever reason."

Turning back to look at the resume she had started typing up, "Have you ever had the pleasure of doing one of these? I have the hardest time putting what I did into basic terms."

Amelia nodded and took the slip of paper, skimming its contents and glad to find a name as well as the contact information. The last thing she wanted was to blow a chance by not knowing the other woman's name of all things.

"Alright. Thank you, Randi." Slipping the paper into her pocket for now, the brunette nodded. "My name's Amelia, in case they ask." She started to open a word processor when her new helper asked another question, revealing a resume that seemed to be disagreeing with her.

"A few." Amelia shook her head, remembering how dismal her own resumes sounded when she made them. They do more harm than good after a while."

"No problem, Amelia. Anything I can do to help." Shifting her head left to right, trying to pop her neck, Randi kept staring at what she had written. It was pretty blank, as figuring out how working in the Air Force could relate to the information it was asking of her.

Grimacing, "Yeah. It does seem to go that way." Looking at the questions being asked, she could answer easily in person, but on paper...Uh not gonna happen. "Worst part, when they ask for your addresses for the past 8 years. I forgot most of them, along with building numbers." Sighing and cracking her fingers, the veteran woman stared at the opened document, blankly.

Amelia chuckled quietly, the sound lacking in humor, but not empathy. "Something like that." She could say the same for some of her own applications, and not just for work. People tended not to be thrilled with a prospective employee when they saw you were still living in a shelter. Hopefully, that would change soon.

Hopefully. Amelia fully blamed that little slip of a thought on her spirit friend lurking in her dreams. Not so long ago, she wouldn't have bothered because there would have been no point. Her thoughts would run in endless circles, scripting out her failures with so much depth and precision that she would believe them before she would ever start. She'd come to believe that she would never be good enough for anything, but lately it was as if she could finally see stars sprinkled across and endless night sky: present, but still needing to reach for them.

"I should probably check this out," she decided with a nod, logging out of the computer as she did so. She offered the other woman a polite smile, hoping this would turn out well. "Thanks, Randi."

Randi turned, feeling that there was something more. "Well, if you need anything. Even a good place to rest up." Now what made her say that? Maybe her dream was getting the better of her. She gave a mental shake to help get her mind back on track. "You can get a hold of me." It sounded lame after all her thoughts jumbled back together.

"Maybe a break from looking at this or even thinking so hard on it." She did need to get more in touch with others. Her love of animals kind of made her shy, which could be the reason for her dream. "I know this is kinda funny, but...Want to grab a bite to eat or something?"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 24, 2014 10:01 pm

Amelia raised a brow at Randi's comment, wondering how in the world the woman reached the conclusion that she needed help with a place to stay. She didn't think she'd been giving off any particular hints about her life that way, but she supposed anything was possible. She wasn't exactly the most adept and interacting with others.

Food, however, was something she knew and appreciated. The only problem was that accepting Randi's offer would put Amelia in debt to her, especially if she got the job that had been mentioned. At least lunch was easier to pay back, but planning for the future when you struggled with the now was pointless.

"Sure. Where at?" She paused, realizing what she'd said with a frown. Of course she didn't have money to pay for food somewhere. Still frowning, Amelia turned and rummaged through her coat pocket, making a face when nothing appeared.

"Maybe some other time? I left my wallet back at my place."

Blushing, Randi rushed, "For that job. If you don't live close they offer housing, but it takes a chunk out of your pay." She was going to kick herself later because that did sound way out of line. A brush of a thought went through, before she could grab it, the thought was gone.

Putting stuff away, "Come on. It is a neat spot with the best pizza." Triple checking her pockets, she frowned. She could of sworn that she had left the catcher at home, but there it was on her. Shrugging, she pushed her chair back and sighed. "No worries. My treat today. It's not the greatest outside and I could use the company."
