Cherry was out strolling. She had just got off of work a little while ago. She had worked a few hours extra. Then again, she often worked longer than her scheduled hours. So unable to say no sometimes if she wasn't feeling put out by demands asked of her. After being inside all day, she had been in the mood for some fresh air; though cold and brisk the winter air might be.

As she was walking around, she was stopped at a small intersection that wasn't far from the park. When she was waiting and stretching her arms behind her with her head tilted to the side, she spied a familiar sight in the distance. She decided to go see if her eyes were seeing straight or if the cold air was making her see things. As she got closer, her eyes followed the leash down to a pup she was quite sure was his.

"Iouri... hello there... What's your dog's name again?" She strode up while she greeted him and gave him a charming wave. It was cute and demure though hardly necessary to put on those airs for him.

Iouri'd been planning to go for a run. Tomorrow started another long week at the museum, and his doctor had said some threatening things about his heart at his last checkup. Besides, Laika had a tendency to chew the kitchen chairs if she wasn't properly exercised, and that was just obnoxious.

Planning, maybe, wasn't the right word. He had been running - to the park and back, or so the plan went. But traffic stopped for no man. So here he was, waiting, his dog at his side, panting like she'd just run a marathon because she was an overdramatic ham, when who should he spot from across the intersection - waving at him, no less - than--

Okay, to skip the theatrics, they were previously acquainted and he had occasionally speculated about what kind of underwear she wore. Normal behavior when the woman in question was buxom and lovely.

"Oh, hello, Cherry," he said, having forgotten to cross the street. "Laika. Her name is Laika. We were on our way to the park."

Laika had abandoned acting like she was going to fall over dead in favor of sniffing Cherry's ankles, with designs on her crotch. It was a good time to be a dog.

"How've you been?" asked Iouri, tugging slightly on his dog's leash.

Oh good, he remembered her. Oh wait.. of course he remembered her! Who wouldn't. She was pretty sure almost everyone had everlasting positive impressions of her; though she didn't often attribute to her chest. Then again, to say she didn't use that as part of her attention grabbing techniques wouldn't be very forthcoming.

"Oh. I'm all right I guess. I guess I'm just knocking off a little at the moment. I just left work. Though life's pretty much same ole, same ole for me. You doing anything exciting lately? I mean... aside from sorting rocks and all that?"

She gave him a playful wink when slipping in the bit about rocks. She wasn't a dumb or stupid girl, but she didn't really know lots about science. It was one of the great worlds of mystery to her. She didn't hate it though, and she was more than compliant and willing to listen to whatever things he felt like teaching her to help her understand things. Well, in some of the passing conversations they'd had before.

She brushed her chocolate tresses over her shoulder, letting it bounce and hang down her back. "Been a little while since I saw you last. I developed the pictures I took of Laika that day in the park. They are super adorable. You could totally come by and see them sometime... Or... I could bring them to you if it suited you."

Iouri did his best to laugh at the remark about sorting rocks. While his job at the museum did involve... some of that, it was significantly more complicated. But he expected Cherry knew that, so he could appreciate a joke. "Well, you know, sorting rocks is terribly exciting," he replied, pushing his glasses up his nose. "I saw Gravity a few nights ago. I'm talking to the local cinema about possibly screening it on the dome at the planetarium. We're set up to show movies, so it could be a fun fundraiser for the museum."

He gave Laika's leash another tug, dissuading her from her keen attempts at investigating Cherry's nether regions.

"I would love to see how the pictures turned out," he continued, gesturing to see if, perhaps, Cherry would walk alongside him towards the park. "I've got a bit of a busy week coming up, but I'll text you when I have a free moment and perhaps we can grab lunch?" It had been too long since he'd seen Cherry - best to make plans to make plans, in order to keep that from happening again.

"Oh yes. I'm sure It's all quite very exciting," She conceded to him as she stepped right in stride at his gesture. She would most definitely walk alongside. If she were to just turn around and leave, she'd miss out on a perfectly good chance to spend time with her. She was pretty sure everyone wanted that. Who was she to deprive the masses of such a wish granted?

"Mmmm... Movies, huh? Well, any shows I ever saw in there growing up always seemed much bigger there than on a normal movie screen. It definitely would be movie going on a different level. Domes still have plenty over a good IMAX screen. If you let me know early enough, I could probably make sure I get a night off to pop in."

She thought back to the last time she saw a movie in a dome, and she realized it had been ages. Certainly not at all since she had been out of school. "Of course... Well, I'm sure there's no end to the things you need to do for the museum. I have to assume it's rather akin to running your own business in a way."

Oh, lunch huh? Sounded like quite the non date. She wondered if she went if there'd be other non date things as well. Of course, such curiosities had to be looked into. "Oh, absolutely. How could I pass up spending an hour of my day with the smartest person I know? Dr. I-work-24/7. I have to assume randomly running into you like this is a stroke of good fortune for me. " Her eyes glinting. The promise of someone wanting to see her more. It fed her conceited ideas of how people really did need to see her all the time if they were really honest with themselves.

All the while moving her hands to block all the crevices his Laika was attempting to prod into. Though to look at her, you wouldn't know she was bothered. Her charming smile never waivered, and her eyes only grew more interested and refused to be distracted.

"Oh, it completely is like running a business," Iouri assured her. "I have to keep track of the budget, keep the patrons happy, make sure the gift shop is stocked... and find time for scientific inquiry. And our board of directors borders on useless, but don't let them hear me say that." Or else he'd be out of a job.

"I think I'll take Laika over to the dog run," he suggested. "We can sit and talk, and she can tire herself out. If she doesn't, she'll chew the furniture." Which was, for the record, bad, and he bet she could figure out why.

He chuckled and, despite himself, blushed ever so slightly. "The smartest person you know?" Iouri asked. "You need to meet more people. But for one as lovely as you, I might even take two hours." His accent was slipping a little bit, back into the thicker Russian of his youth, and he blamed her for getting him flustered.

Once he'd let Laika off-leash to go wildly cavort with dogs twice her size, Iouri joined Cherry on a bench overlooking the dog run. "I don't work 24/7," he said defensively. "I'm not working right now."

Oh. Game on, friend. That certain look lit in her eyes that she would get when sweet talking someone. It was that look of finding something that entertained her or captured her immediate interest. Of course, anything or anything that kited her attention was in her immediate interest.

"Oh, good sir. Well, then they ought to be so glad they have such a capable person handling things." Scientific inquiry. For some reason, in the back of her mind, that sounded like something to file away as a playful term for something at some unspecified time in the future. Maybe.

She had given him one of her most admiring smiles before sitting down. "Yeah. Most dogs can do a real good number of furniture. Not just chewing either." That's all that would come out of her mouth on that matter. She was about to say that'd be a waste of good furniture. Had she even seen his furniture? She mused that she couldn't recall and maybe because she had never actually been inside his place? Why did that feel like a challenge?

She completely lit up to hear him laugh and blush. "Maybe. Well, you know more about science than anyone I know. Well, that I'm aware of anyways. Certainly, I've never seen anyone else share such.. enthusiasm or passion."

Was she propping him up? Maybe a little bit, but it wasn't without cordial sincerity. Hearing the little slip of the accent piqued her interest. She began to listen more intently to every word he said listening to see if she heard it again.

His compliment didn't make her blush much. She was far too conceited to feel modesty at any manner of flattery. Still, she smiled feeling grateful through and through for his being astute to see it. "2 hours? My dear Iouri. You'll have my curiosity and hopes all excited. It's not too often getting lunch takes it time like that." Then, her eyes watching Laika run off to join the other dogs. Her eyes slowly slid to gaze at him with her eyes that were growing keen to him.

"True... very true. I was just teasing you about that." She had leaned in when saying that and would have touched a finger to his nose if she hadn't recalled the fact he didn't like being touched in public. She stopped just short of doing that.

Iouri scooted away from her, just to be safe. This was an awfully public place and she was being quite flirtatious - he didn't feel prepared to deal with any more come-ons at the moment. "You just don't know that many scientists," he laughed again. "Meet more, and I'll seem far less impressive."

"Well," he said, feeling all hot around his collar. "I'm sure we'll come up with some way to fill the time. Photographs and... other things. You know, I spend so much time in my office by myself or in the collections that I forget what it's like to be out and about with real people. I can spare two hours provided the company is good."

His accent was wobbling all over the place. He pressed his tongue against the back of his teeth, as if that might help him get it back under control.

"How have you been lately?" he asked. "Aside from developing photographs of my dog - what have you been up to? Keeping busy?"

"Well, I cleared out my dad's old office. I'm going to rent that out. think I found someone, but I gotta wait and see if it really pans out. I've also been working on a killer dessert recipe, so I've made it to death for a few weeks in a row. I'm sure my dad doesn't mind eating it."

Her eyes shrewdly watched him move away. Yup. There's the guy who never seems to want to touch in public. She vaguely wondered if in his office with a door closed still counted as being in public. She rolled her eyes about his deflecting her compliment about being quite smart.

"Geez, Iouri, learn how to take a compliment. Also, don't forget, I work too. Nothing as important as glamorous as what you do. I just try to solicit my yummy cherry pie to people a lot. One day, I will totally be famous for them, and I won't be working in someone's little coffee shop. People will be enthralled with my yummy, warm works of art."

She had actually developed photos of lots of things, including herself. She wasn't sure any of them would interest him, so she just left them unmentioned.

"Yes, well," said Iouri, quite flustered about just about everything right now, "Perhaps I'll stop in soon for a slice." He was busy, but he also made his own hours - it wasn't as though he couldn't sneak away on occasion. And it wasn't like he had to spend every night at home alone with his dog. Prude, yes. Square, no.

"I'm going to go fetch Laika," he announced, getting up. He returned a few minutes later, terrier panting over-dramatically at the end of her leash. Laika tugged over to Cherry and flopped down, still completely over-dramatic, onto the woman's feet.

"You have a fan," Iouri observed wryly. He had not gotten the dog in order to meet women, but she did seem to have that effect.

A flash of what she might consider her own brand of genius flickered through her mind. She sucked on her bottom lip while sitting back on the bench and attempting to stop making movements that would make him keep moving further and further away. She was trying very hard to not overplay her hand.

She smiled and waited until he had come back with Laika. Cherry bent over to pet and rub the cutie around her ears. Then, she sat back up and looked up at Iouri with eyes that were nearly on the verge of looking daring.

"Mmmm.... or you know... I have an even better idea. You could just drop by my house for lunch one day. I can feed you. I'm pretty sure you'll love anything I make you." Ooops... Well, yeah. She did think highly of herself. Sometimes, she couldn't help when those sorts of statements slipped out. "It makes it ultra convenient since my photos are there."

That would offer a nice, cozy setting. Her kitchen was in her mind an ideal place to host anyone. The only thing in that she would have to worry about was her parents. Maybe she could get them off to some bingo hall for a few hours.

She then left it in the air for him to consider while she went back to Laika to rub her head and ears some more giving the dog some baby talk. "Awww... who's a good puppy? Is someone a good puppy? I bet she is!"

Iouri was... pretty sure he knew where this was going, because he wasn't exactly dense. To accept the invitation into Cherry's home had very clear connotations attached, made clearer by what was probably a perfectly intentional innuendo on her part. Connotations that, all things considered, he decided he was pretty okay with. "That sounds like a great idea," he said, smiling reassuringly. "I would love to see your home. I'm certain that it's lovely."

Laika, panting happily, rolled over onto her back, as if to say, that's nice, but you should totally pet me here! It would be even better!

"If you keep telling her she's a good puppy," Iouri remarked wryly, watching Laika abandon all dignity in favor of belly rubs, "Maybe, eventually, it will become true."

He was being facetious. He loved Laika. She was the best dog.

She was still squatting to pet the lovely Laika. Seeing her flop on her back for belly rubs. Well, Cherry was always a woman who obliged anyone needing her. She was more than happy to dote on the dog. Cherry continued to make the sorts of faces women give to cute little babies. It wasn't like she couldn't see that Laika wasn't a puppy anymore, but in her own mind, all girls liked being pampered and spoiled no matter what.

She rubbed Laika's belly gently for a few moments catering to the dog's whims. All the while, she had grown a sly smile. She mused to herself he didn't take much convincing or further persuasion.

Her sly grin then mushed back into the baby faces she made at Laika. "Aww... I bet it's true already. Isn't it girl? Are you the bestest puppy ever? I wish I had something to give you." She suddenly wished she had dog treats or something in her pocket to reward her new little friend. Then, again, what would she be doing with that? She didn't even own a dog. Or a cat.. Or... any animals.

"Well, Iouri, just lemme know when you have free time. Whenever works for you; it works for me. I'm sure my schedule is more flexible." Even if it wasn't originally; she was usually plenty motivated to rearrange it to accommodate interest of a personal nature.

"I'll get her something when I get home," Iouri assured Cherry. Laika hardly wanted for treats and he made sure of that, but that said, she probably wouldn't have objected to a milkbone right at this moment. After all, the hind leg she was kicking in the air was approaching supersonic speeds.

"I'll keep you updated," he assured her, getting up from the bench. Laika made a remorseful noise when he tugged her leash gently, but she still rolled away from Cherry's hand and got to her feet.

"It was lovely to see you," said Iouri. A bolder man, perhaps, would have kissed her on the cheek here. Iouri, being Iouri, did no such thing. "And hopefully I'll have time to pop out for lunch later this week. But for now, I had really better finish my run and head home before it gets dark."

He'd been warned about wandering around at night, after all.

She stood up and just smiled. She didn't make any attempts herself to get close or touch him or anything. She recalled some minor edging away he did the first few times she had met him. Her eyes narrowed in a discerning manner. They didn't infer anything mean or malicious; though they probably were filling with devious mirth. The way steam fills the room from a boiling pot of water.

When he said hopefully, a grin that bordered on growing into a smirk touched the corner of her smile. "Well, Running into you is always a fun occasion." She enjoyed his moments of being flustered in front of her. She took that as a sign she was doing everything perfectly right. Then again, even if he didn't get flustered; she was still likely to think it still. In any case, she was feelign quite pleased.

"I look forward to having you over. If I can get at least a little advance notice; that'd be great." That would allow her to plan little details she loved. None that she would tell anyone about until they were there to experience it for themselves.

She waved to little Laika. "See you next time, puppy. Bye Iouri!" She flashed him a quick flirtatious wink before strutting off. Yeah. Was she on her way home? She couldn't remember if she intended to stop by the store or not. After a moment's reflection, she decided she'd just go home. She didn't always care for this winter air.
