 --- The Chosen ---
Name: Roderick Burgh Age: 23 Gender: Male Occupation: Fower (kitchen cleaner) of his father's coffee house Residence: Palisade
--- Physical Description ---
Hair: Black hair, cropped short Eye Color: Light brown Skin Tone: Fair Body Type: Tall and lean, but with a bit of muscle in his arms Notable Features: A vertical scar on his left cheek bone, obtained from being cut by a shard of glass when he entered a fight in his youth. It is about an inch long; quite noticeable but Roderick seems unaffected by it.
--- Family ---
Parents: Edmund Burgh and Lucine Burgh (deceased) Siblings: Mariam (24), Augusta (19), and Jacqueline (15)
Extra: Mariam has married out of the Burgh family. Roderick despises Augusta because of her intelligence, and really only loves Jacqueline. He is begrudgingly obedient to his father.
--- History ---
Roderick is the second born child to Edmund and Lucine Burgh and their only son. Lucine died from complications in childbirth, leaving Edmund with three young children and an infant Jacqueline to care for alone. After the loss of Lucine, Edmund became a much more hardened man and he grew strict with Roderick, forcing responsibilities upon the boy that were never really wanted. As the only other man in the household Roderick grew up learning how to run the family coffee house although his main use was handling the tasks of physical work such as cleaning and stocking. In their home life, Roderick has always been teased by his older sister for as long as he can remember and was always given the chore of looking after his younger sisters whenever his father was busy with work. School was never really an option for Roderick, but he was taught by both Mariam and Augusta to ensure he had the ability to read and write; his vocabulary however, is not the most advanced for someone his age. Between working the family business, caring for his younger sisters, and his father's obvious favoritism for the girls, Roderick has always been living a rushed and fairly hectic life but he isn't entirely unhappy. It's the dependence of his family upon him that pushes him forward through every obstacle he meets.
--- Personality ---
Despite the importance of his family and the needs of the coffee house, Roderick overall has a rather bratty attitude. He spends whatever time he can when he's off of work fooling around and enjoying a good beer; it makes him a little self-centered because there's no one at home who will spoil him, so he takes it upon himself to ensure his own satisfaction in life. Roderick is known for his frequent flirtations and rumor has it that those are not just limited to the opposite sex. When Roderick wants company or entertainment for the evening he is not shy about it at all, and really, he's not the type to ever keep his mouth shut about anything. On nights when there's nothing better to do he has a knack for getting into trouble with the local gangs or simply pick-pocketing just because he can. Those who know Roderick well would say that he really only acts out because he struggles to maintain loyalty to his father's wishes; torn at times between living his own life and being there for those dependent on him, Roderick internally worries about the future and if he'll ever be truly happy. It's carefully hidden behind his silly banter and childish pranks so that he doesn't worry those most important to him.

--- The Guardian ---
Name: Dionysus (affectionately nicknamed Dio) Meaning: Named after the Greek god of wine, drunken merriment, and ecstasy Stage: Adult only Gender: Male Generation: One
Personality: Dionysus is a very lax and openly affectionate deer, eager to nuzzle against and be petted by just about everyone that he comes into contact with. He is not easily stressed or annoyed, but can become a little aggressive when denied something that he wants, often pushing or shoving to try to get his way. He seems to be a bit of a drama queen, faking fits of depression or physical injury whenever he is scolded or restricted. When compared to the average guardian he is somewhat shorter and heavier in weight, but Dionysus shouldn't be underestimated in any case. He has quite the powerful kick, and sometimes there are quite the mischievous sparks in those golden eyes of his. Beneath his docile and playful demeanor is cunning and a startling lack of mercy toward his opponents.
Relationship with the Chosen: Dionysus is typically Roderick's wingman, supporting his warden in whatever the endeavor, with what could only be called a smirk on his face. The buck just seems to be content with letting Roderick do what he pleases, never really butting in or trying to put a stop to something unless Roderick is obviously about to get himself into a real mess. For the most part Dionysus is just treated and pampered as an exotic pet, but sometimes Roderick expects a problem to jump out of nowhere and he doesn't fully believe Dionysus will act at all. The silent promise of protection by the guardian has never genuinely been tested but the bond between the two is for the most part amicable and confident.

The Choosing will go here after I get some sleep. emotion_zzz
Summary: Roderick decides to take a little vacation of his own after a fight with his dad. He "borrows" a friend's horse and runs off to Oldcastle, eventually making his way into the Wardwood. He reaches the ward-tree and plucks a certain token that resembles a split fig before heading home.
