It was there... RIGHT. THERE.

All she had to do was crawl closer, reach up... and it would be hers! It, of course, was a little bit of tech delight someone had left sitting out... all lonely and neglected. The man who had owned it was turned away, doing something she couldn't see and didn't really care about. The table the phone was on was a little high, but... if she just stretched a bit, she knew she could reach it. She just had to believe in herself! Besides, guardian cats were special creatures and Ash one of them. If she couldn't pull this off, then no one could.

Creeping through the legs of chairs and the legs of people, the burmilla cat made her way closer and closer to the table that had her focus, her visor shading her eyes to give the world a purple tint. Height was assessed, distance, risk of detection... the value of the iphone sitting on the table... and it all added up to a green for go!

Taking the leap, Ash landed on top of the table and closed her mouth around the phone, turning to leap back down. What she hadn't counted on was the awkward size of the phone and the difficulty of holding onto it. The cat felt it slipping and she paused to straighten it out, realizing that perhaps she had once again bitten off more than she could chew... though this phone was certainly smaller than the laptop she'd tried to take last time.

It was brand spankin' new.

And he left it unattended for a mere two minutes. Not even. A waitress had called his attention about some promo or another, even gave him a sample! Bonus! The teen, all smiles about his relatively good day and success at setting up his phone, turned back, ready to take a bit out of the brownie sample, only to see there was a cat trying to make off with his phone. In its mouth.

The brownie landed with a soft, almost muted splat on his leg first, then it bounced ever so sadly onto his shoes. Which were also new.

Not that it mattered, considering he was now watching a cat trying to steal his phone. He would have reacted immediately, but it was...too strange a situation, and it called out to his more curious side. Specifically, Dom couldn't figure out what was more surprising: a cat interested in his phone or said cat trying to steal his phone. Either way, his curiosity had gotten the better of him, delaying his reaction considerably as he tried to figure out which was shocking him more. He tilted his head slightly, his narrowed eyes indicative of being completely immersed in whatever he was thinking about.

Whoops... busted.

The young man had turned back just at the wrong moment and was now staring her dead in the face, caught red handed... or red pawed. For a moment, Ash's back arched as she puffed up, and then she turned and jumped from the table, making a beeline for the door. Tail straight up, she bounced between legs and over feet with the precious tech clutched desperately in her mouth, but it was a difficult game... would she drop it before safety, make it out the door, or get caught by the owner of the phone she'd stolen? Hard to say...

Luckily for her, it looked like the phone owner... er, former owner, wasn't moving very fast to catch her. The door soon loomed and Ash headbutted it open, nearly dropping her prize in the process. The silver body took one look back before eeling her way outside. Yes, home stretch! Around the corner and she'd be gone, scott free with her treasure.

"Son of a...!"

His brain finally caught up with what was happening, but unfortunately for the soon-to-be phoneless (again) teenager, the cat had hopped gingerly off the table and zipped off towards freedom while he vegged out and tried to process what the hell it had been trying to do. Dom didn't doubt that he probably looked like a crazy right then, as he got up out of his chair -- brownie'd leg and shoe and all -- and went after it after dropping a few bills on his table.

"Stop that cat!" he screamed, eyes wide when the feline headbutted the door open. Ignoring whatever looks were being shot his way, Dominic tried to get past another waiter and a few customers that were making their way inside. "Sorry, excuse me, wait.. uh.. yeah, dude! Move!" the teen said as he tried as he hurried to get past them. He needed to keep up with that damned cat! Bonus points to it, he thought, since all it had to do was dodge legs and pay absolutely no attention to manners. It wasn't too far ahead of him when he got outside, and he gave chase.

"Seriously?!" He was chasing a cat. A cat. For his phone. Yeah, he wouldn't be coming anywhere near this part of town anytime soon. He couldn't keep this up for too much longer, so what he was about to do was a last-ditch attempt to catch it. When he felt he was close enough he made a jump for the feline, hoping to grab onto its tail (or any part of its body would do) to keep it from running off any further. The street corner was oh so very close.. and if this failed he'd definitely lose his phone.

Again.

Being safely outside with escape in sight, no one could really fault Ash for letting her guard down, just a little bit. Her paws maybe didn't run quite as fast as they should have and maybe she wasn't paying as much attention behind her as she should have been... So it came as a surprise when she heard big, thunking foot steps behind her and then suddenly a scuffle and large hands wrapped around her midsection...

The silver cat squeaked as she was grabbed up, the phone in her mouth dropping free to clatter the short distance to the ground. Squirming like an eel, she struggled to get out of the hands, making distressed kitten sounds, but made no move to bite or scratch the man who had grabbed her. That, among all the oddities she'd exhibited thus far probably marked her out as not-a-normal-cat... Had she been thinking about it just then, the guardian might have chided herself for being so transparent. She was supposed to be acting like a normal cat... but it just never seemed to work out that well for her.

Flopping about, Ash kicked the hands with her back legs, squeaking again. Let go! She demanded silently, suddenly hoping whomever had grabbed her didn't intend to hurt her.

Totally. Worth. It. Dom felt his extended hand take hold of something soft and furry, a satisfied smile etching its way onto his features before he landed on the ground, chest first, and came to a skidding halt, colliding into the phone that had fallen out of the cat's mouth in the process. He grabbed it up as soon as he could, and got himself up off the ground soon enough, furball still safe in his clutches. The raven-haired teen had no intentions of hurting it, oh no. But he'd be giving it a stern talking-to.

In the alley up ahead, though, since chiding cats for attempting to steal phones wasn't something normal people did. Dom had no idea this one was no ordinary kitty, but that didn't stop him from dusting himself off (which didn't help at making his clothes look any less dirty or messed up) and turning into the corner up ahead.

"I just chased you out of a cafe, cat," the teen started, brows furrowed as he lifted the cat up so it was at eye-level. Cerulean eyes stared into emerald greens, just a touch of curiosity mixed into predominant frustration. "I'd demand an explanation, but...." and his anger faltered a bit here, a brow tilting up slightly at the realization that he was seriously talking to a cat. "Well, obviously you can't give me one 'cause cats can't talk." The teen used his free hand to face-palm, sighing as he did.

Ash hung in Dom's hands as bonelessly as only a cat could, giving him a bored, disapproving look that was also classic cat.

Darn it... this was very disappointing. She wanted that phone!

Thus, the disappointed look as he spoke to her, demanding an explanation in a roundabout way. Ash let his annoyance roll off her back, her mind whirling instead with how she might be able to salvage this situation. It was a shame he wasn't one of her senshi... maybe she could have reasoned with him then, or guilt him into doing as she wanted him to.

Oh, how little he knew... how simple his life must be, thinking cats couldn't talk. It was tempting to shake up his little world... but that would be irresponsible of her. And, actually, dangerous. Thinking about him being secretly powered brought up the possibility that he could be chaos and not order. Being caught up in the hands of a negaverse officer was not something she was looking forward to experiencing.

Worried, Ash squirmed in his grip, lifting her back feet to kick at his wrists as she wiggled. Maybe he already knew what she was, the star on her forehead was sort of a dead give away if the visor wasn't enough. She needed down NOW.

Now that it seemed he had the upper hand in the situation, Dom actually gave the cat a good once over. A generic cat was the only conclusion he could really come up with, but his eyes snagged on its visor. Honestly, he wasn't one for dressing up pets -- something about seeing a dog in cheetah print or something similar was a little off-putting for him -- but there were other people who were more inclined to such a hobby.

It was a curious visor though, and a part of him couldn't help but reach up to tap at its frame, a brow lifting in the process. "Animals in sweaters I've seen, but..." he murmured, eyes narrowing now as curiosity began to take over.

That is, until the cat kept right on squirming. Dominic snapped back to the situation at hand, noting that he must have been holding her up in a rather uncomfortable manner and muttering something of an apology before moving to lower her back down to the ground. The youth didn't let her go yet, though, and pulled out his phone. "I probably look like some crazy person, but I really want a closer look. Alright, I will let you see my phone," and he kind of wiggled the phone around to show her he was being serious, "if you let me see that visor. Deal?"

Down was a good thing, being held in place was not. The way he went on talking to her made her wonder if he still thought she was a normal cat, because he made it sound a lot more like she was a person or something. The tapping on her visor though, that was the last straw and she slapped at his hand with a paw, claws carefully withheld.

"Watch it, please! You'll get smudges on it... and I don't want to see that phone, I want to keep it." Ash grumped, feeling put out finally. She grumped as she frowned up at him, possessively pressing a paw to her visor to straighten it on her face. "But maybe if you ask nicely, I'll let you look at my visor."

At this point, she'd really had enough. She might be damned for it, but she couldn't continue playing dumb animal for him.

It wasn't spine-tingling terror or anything, but shock was probably a fitting word for the look on Dominic's face when the cat started ... talking. The teen let her go without a second thought and kind of jumped up and back, his eyes staring right down at the talking-cat like it was possessed at first, then after a second of processing the scene he glanced around for passersby before slowly leaning back down.

He'd seen weirder things, he could honestly say, so a talking cat with an interest in his phone? Shocking, but not enough to freak him out too badly. He was still pretty freaked, mind.

"You can t--.. obviously, 'kay. Um..." he started mumbling, his face morphing into varied confused expressions as he tried to think of something less stupid to say. "I mean, um...sorry?" Dominic blinked and lifted his gaze to take another gander at his surroundings, catching sight of an old woman blinking over at him before he caught her. She seemed to just clear her throat and move on with her business, though, so he turned his attention back to the gray cat.

"Well, it's a new phone so I don't really want to just...give it away, you know." Though, talk about letting him take a look at her visor just happened to bring him right around. She might not have meant it to, but all the same. He just had to know. The whole "talking cat" bit probably should have been at the top of that list, but hey. Contraptions first, talking oddities later. "If you're serious about letting me see that visor, though, just give me a chance to save all my stuff first and I'll hand it over. How's that?"

Dropped rather uncermoniously, Ash landed neatly on her paws and took a moment to fuss with herself, straightening the imagined damage he'd done to the perfection that was her glossy silver coat. Settled on her haunches, she groomed herself primly and then gave him a look up through her visor, her eyes suspicious.

"You don't seem all that freaked out by my talking..." The guardian said as she looked this stranger over. "Most people would be far more interested in that than a bit of tech I'm wearing. Are you some kind of weirdo, or do you know something I don't?" Suddenly a thought occurred to her and Ash perked up immediately.

"Are you a senshi?" She said as she rose to stand, her tail flicking around behind her. That would change things quite a lot, actually... if he were a senshi, then she could forgive everything and get on with doing her duty by him. Hell, she'd even let him see her visor for free, if that was the case.

It was all he could really do -- watch the cat as it did its thing. Admittedly, he was kind of impressed with the fact that it landed on its paws. He'd never seen the whole "cats always land on their paws" thing in real life, before. Granted, a talking cat was probably much more impressing than the fact that it could land on the ground as neatly as this one did. At its question he shrugged.

"Seen weirder things of late," he admitted then, before moving to crouch down beside it. "Not to say that the fact that you're talking isn't wicked cool, but hey." The raven-haired youth simply smiled at the feline now, before squinting his already squinty eyes rather curiously at it. And it clicked after a second; of course talking cats had something to do with senshi and other supernatural things around here. Most everything he'd considered "weird" certainly did.

But he shook his head at the question. "Nope," came his honest answer. "Knight, though, and kinda new. First I've seen a talking cat, if that matters at all."

Ash literally preened at being called 'wicked cool', her opinion of the man growing by leaps and bounds. He certainly couldn't be a bad boy if he recognized how wonderful she was.

"I suppose being a knight is the next best thing." She said, feeling rather generous. "Though there isn't much I can do for you beyond offering my wisdom, such as it is. I don't know much of anything about your faction, so I'm a bit limited. I know far more about senshi, though... I have to admit I'm rather new too."

The small face grew sheepish at that, but Ash shook it off as she rose and padded towards the young man to rub against his knee. Back arched and everything, she acted as though she were truly nothing more than a normal cat, a purr rumbling up from her throat. Habits were hard to break and most of the time, Ash saw no need to try.

"I'm... sorry I tried to steal your phone. I didn't know you were a knight." She said softly.

Next best thing?

Dominic wrinkled his nose a little at being called such, but he didn't know enough about the war to know whether or not it was true. Also, there was a chance cats just happened to be more closely tied to the senshi and maybe had some kind of bias toward them, but he let the comment pass. It didn't matter all that much, big picture-wise.

"Not a problem," he replied to her admission that she couldn't do much for him or his faction. "I'd still appreciate whatever you can tell me." The youth offered the feline another smile, then reached out and scritched her head a little bit as she neared. "About knights and senshi, since I feel like we kind of work together...in a way? I'm not really sure, but it seems that way."

Her apology surprised him, though, and he just shook his head a little. "That trade I offered is still on the table, all the same, uh..." Dom paused then, and realized that he hadn't properly introduced himself. "Don't think I caught your name. I'm Dominic."

Ash smiled as he scratched her head, rather enjoying the attention she was receiving.

"Knights are not senshi, is about the extent of what I know about your kind. My kind awakens senshi and helps them reach their full potential when they are ready for the power up. Your kind... I honestly don't have the first clue how you awaken or how you upgrade or really anything. In fact... you are the first knight I have ever met. So, I suppose it should probably be the other way around... you should be telling me all about your kind and what you can do." The silver cat said as she tilted her head back to look up at him. Mmm... that was rather awkward, wasn't it?

Glancing about, the burmilla looked for and found what appeared to be... dumpster. She all but shuddered at the idea of touching it, but it would simply not do to be staring up at him like this... it would put a crick in her neck. Springing away from the young man, Ash made for the dumpster and jumped up onto its closed lid, rather pleased with how much closer it put them to eye level with each other. Settling herself to sit, the cat wrapped her tail around her paws and gave him a contented look.

"Now, if there is anything you want to know in particular about senshi, I can certainly fill you in on what I know. They're not particularly complicated, I suppose, and I can only really generalize, because each of them is unique to themselves, with their own goals, strengths and weaknesses."
