Aurora swore. Pulling her hoof back, she licked at the thin, red line that joined the multitudes of thin, red lines on her foreleg. With a sigh, she landed again, fretting over the mess she must look and glaring a the large thicket that was impeding her mission. Beside her lay 5 perfect roses, thorns nipped off the stems, a delicate shade of pink that no florist in the city could provide for her. She needed a dozen, a dozen was proper! But only a this many bloomed close enough the flutter could reach without much difficulty. Diving into the shrubbery had proved disastrous, her long mane and tail becoming so tangled there were still silvery blue strands on several brambles, and bits of bush in her hair. She resorted to just reaching in and blindly grabbing for some of the flowers but had only resulted in scratching up her forelegs. Sitting down, she sighed again, gathering the roses up. Maybe if she had Hydrangea put in enough greenery and baby breath, Moonlight wouldn't notice there wasn't even a half a dozen roses in her bouquet.

She had overheard, through no fault of her own, about a beautiful thorny bush overflowing with beautiful flowers. Though Briarthorn could not quite remember what the flowers were called, she did distinctly remember hearing that they were so thorny that nary a phony could get one without ending up covered in angry red scratch marks. While the little carousel phony hated to be so presumptuous as to assume that she could do better, she just had to see it for herself and she had to try. After all, her most favorite things in this world, in her short time being here, were the thorny bushes she took her name from and one with beautiful flowers just made the bush more inviting.
Gracelessly she had plodded along, her hooves clip-clopped daintily across the ground until she came to the very spot she had heard the bushes were. To her surprise there was a flutter already there! While this adult before her certainly was beautiful, she could even give Valkyrie a run for her bits, there was something off about the whole scene. Her hair was in tangles and her clothes were a mess and upon her delicate hooves were angry, red scratch marks. She looked upset and this trouble Briarthorn greatly.
Gingerly the little carousel stepped closer. “A-are you okay?” She whispered, trying not to startle the other mare. She was so pale and beautiful that Briar worried that she might be one of these ‘ghost’ things she had heard so much about. Hopefully she didn’t disappear or worse...!

The blue flutter phony turned, looked left, right, then down, noticing the tiny little filly at her hooves. "Oh..my..aren't you adorable..?" she managed a smile for the young one. "Yes, I'm okay..I'm just trying to gather flowers for my.." she paused, was it too soon or presumptuous to call Pale Moonlight her beau? "my..friend, who I care about a lot." That works. "He is giving a concert tonight and I want to give him a nice bouquet of flowers at the end."She pointed at the bush with a small, heavily scratched hoof. "It's just been proving a challenge to get to them with all the thorns. I tried to just push into the bush to get the flowers but..well..you can see.." She picked a bit of the plant from her mane. "I probably should have thought that one through a bit more before I did it..I didn't exactly come prepared to dive through bushes." she chuckles.

The filly heaved a sigh of relief. This phony was certainly not one of those ghost things she had heard about. No matter how beautiful and ethereal she may have appeared: Those angry red marks and the roses on the ground next to her were very, very real. Large chartreuse orbs peered up at her and she blinked several times, unsure of what to say. No one had ever called her adorable before. Then again, she hadn't really gotten around to talking to too many other phonies. "Thank you." Briar simply smiled, put it from her mind and plodded along a few paces to settle down next to the bush and listen to the flutter phony's tale.
The little mare tossed her mane as she looked back and forth between the bush and the flutter phony. "Mhm! Probably not your best plan of attack." Briar had to agree, it wasn't the best thought out plan she had heard of. Diving head first in to a bush full of thorns was bound to cause a bit of trouble. "But it was worth a try and I'm sure you did your best."
The filly dug her hooves into the dirt and stared up at the beautiful rose bush in complete awe. "It's the thought that counts, right?" Again her bright little orbs fell on the frosty looking butterfly and there was a tinge of sadness there. It was sad, but at least she tried.

Aurora paused. The filly had a point. She had done her best and it was the thought that counted. "That...actually makes me feel better." she laughed softly and gathers up the roses she managed to pick. Moonlight wouldn't want to see her hurt for a bunch of flowers anyway. "Thank you!" she chirped around her small bouquet. "Have a good afternoon!"Turning, Aurora began to hum the tune that reminded her of him as she walked away.

"You're welcome." Briar smiled at the flutterphony, happy that she could be of some assistance, no matter how little it was. For a brief moment all the filly could do was sit and stare at the bush. Not everyone found it as easy as she did to wiggle in and out of these bramble bushes. Still, she felt bad. Of course it was the thought that counted, at least that's what she had always heard, but the older phony had really wanted to get her friend a full bouquet of these roses. It had seemed so important to her that she had completely disregarded her own comfort and went after them all the same. She ended up a ragged mess by the end of it but still It was extremely selfless of her to think of somphony other than herself. Something about that inspired Briarthorn. If she could do that for somephony else well...
It was just at that moment that Briar had an idea that made her jump to her hooves. "H-hey! Wait! Wait-!!" She galloped as fast as her little legs would carry her to catch up to older mare. "I think I can help you!" Her eyes sparkled gleefully. "I'm really good with squeezing in and out of bramble bushes and maybe I can get the rest of your roses for you!"

Aurora paused at the filly's calling and turned. "Oh, but I don't want you to get hurt!" she said worriedly. "You could get scratched up even worse then I could if you wiggle all the way in there. I couldn't possibly let you do that for me, even though it's extremely kind of you to offer. I'd just feel terrible if you were to get hurt or stuck." The mare reached down and ruffled the filly's mane affectionately.

Briar was struck dumbfounded at the older mare's words. Hadn't she said she wanted more flowers for her friend? The tawny filly simply could not allow this. Not at all! This was important. Very much so! Or else why would the other phony have tried so hard? "Bu-bu-but!" In a rare fit, the small carousel phony stomped her little hoof down. "I simply cannot take no for an answer!" Briarthorn huffed firmly. "For your friend, a very good friend-- I can do this."
Without so much as a second thought or a second for the older filly to reply, the little brown filly darted back toward the over-sized bush of thorns. She wriggled under the beast, her saddle snagging and hair at every turn as she struggled to make her way toward the most tender of the roses: the ones guarded toward the center of the bush.
Brilliant green orbs lit up as she spotted one of the most delicate looking roses she had seen amongst the bunch. It wasn't fully open, but somewhere just between being new and being old. It was perfect! She craned her neck, attempting to grasp the flower in her mouth, but gasped and recoiled as a thorn scratched at her delicate cheek. Frustrated, she shook her head and backed up slightly and winced again as another set of thorns pierced her tender legs. She gave a soft cry, but was determined to get it for the other mare. She mustered all her courage and as carefully as she could attempted to extract the flower once more.
Firmly she grasped the stem between her teeth, pulled back with all her strength and it snapped off. Briar stumbled back and felt satisfied until her rump assaulted with another round of thorns. She yelped loudly around the bud in her mouth and practically flew out of the rose bush; acquiring more scratches along her way. The small female dropped the rose at the flutter phony's hooves and grinned. "There's one!"
She turned back toward the bush: Briar was ready for round two.Astraea Pandora Sorry for the long wait. Life and not really feeling Gaia, like I said. :'3c

Aurora could only gape as the baby phony darted in the bush before she could even formulate a response to her little speech. She winced, whimpered, and watched anxiously as Briar squirmed into the bush. "Oh oh do be careful..!" Aurora took to the air and darted around it like a bee looking for a flower, trying to keep an eye on the filly. "Watch ou..ohh..." she cringed. The poor thing. The flutter wanted to dive into the bush and yank her out pretty desperately but there was no way to get in from the top of the bush. As she popped out, Aurora landed. The rose at her hooves was perfect, and the little filly was very tattered and torn. As Briar turned to go in again, Aurora grabbed her up in her arms. "No no no..that's ok! This is enough..." She hugged the filly warmly, picking brambles out of her mane. "This is more then enough you sweet thing.."

Briarthorn jerked as she was stopped suddenly. The stinging had set in and she flinched. It hadn't hurt too badly when she was moving, but now that she had stopped... Well, it was hurtful to say the least. However, there was something about the way that the flutter phony hugged her that made her forget her discomfort, if only momentarily.
"It is...?"Large chartreuse eyes looked up at Aurora, confused as she unconsciously cuddled into the hug and allowed her mane to be fussed over. "But I thought you said you needed a lot more for your friend?"

"I wouldn't worry." Aurora fussed over all of the filly's scraps and scratches. "Once I tell him about our little adventure, I think he will more than understand." Yanking at a scrap of her dress that was nearly ripped off anyway, she tore it into smaller strips and began to bandage the worse of the scratches. "Right now, the most important thing to do is to get you home and cleaned up. No infections for my new little friend." Using the last scrap, she tied the roses into a loose bouquet. "Come come, show me the way to your home."

“Well… If you’re sure.” The small phony muttered, not entirely certain at first. Perhaps she was right. A warmth welled up in her chest. Maybe the few flowers and story would be enough to suffice.
“I live just over there.” Briarthorn lead the way to the home that she shared with the other Carousel phonies. “Thank you for walking me home!” She murmured with a large smile plastered onto her little face. She was a little bit tired from her adventure, but happy over all. She had helped someone and it was going to make someone else very happy. “I hope that your friend has a good show and that he likes the flowers!”

"I have no doubt." the flutter said as she escorted the filly home. Fortunately a large unicorn mare was at home when they arrived and quickly ushered Briar inside with a hasty thanks in one breath and calling for someone else in the house to bring the first aid kit in the next. A few days later, a small package arrived for Briar. Inside was a couple of CDs that were covered in signatures, some tickets for several concerts at the local theater and for rising symphonic power metal called Darkhope, and a small note. Several rose petals fell out of note card when opened. "Briarthorn, My darling Pale Moonlight loved the roses and wishes to extend his gratitude in your helping to retrieve them. While we weren't sure your musical tastes, we home some of the things we've sent are enjoyable. Pale Moonlight & Aurora Light."
