Name: Daniel Selby
Nicknames: Danny, Dan, ...
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Height: 6' 0"

Magic: Water
Occupation: Noble (cellist)
Home: The Selby estate in Arkenvale

Physical Description: A young man broad of shoulder, but lean and with somewhat exotic, aquiline features. His skin is a tan olive tone, and his eyes and hair are both the darkest brown. He prefers to keep his hair close-shorn, although sometimes he can be caught with a bit of stubble there or on his face. His build is a bit more muscular than his brother's.

Personality: Daniel is a noble likely to dress up in common clothes and go wandering around the city. His curiosity drives this desire. He would like to see the mountains and the plains, but until he finds someone willing to travel with him, he simply explores within the world he knows. He knows every market, nearly every alley, and some places he really should not be seeking. He does have his noble moments, however. His passion lies in the cello, and he often plays for leisure as well as in the occasional orchestra. He is a kind man, but one that seems to know of the darkness in life.

History: The twins were born with silver spoons in their mouths. They were the delight of the family, though with two little boys came twice the trouble. Daniel and Jameson grew with every delight that wealth could offer and were never left wanting. Childhood was a bright adventure devoid of the worries other families faced in the less wealthy portion of town. There was never a distaste for the lower classes, but simply a working relationship with the rest of the world that they were bound to inherit. Both boys showed creative desires and great curiosity for the world around them, and boarding school was a welcome experience. It was here that the twins diverged. Jameson spent most of his free time writing furiously at his desk, and Daniel spent it doing... well, something else. Jameson isn't telling, although he certainly knows considering the time they spent playing music together. In the end, the boys returned with new outlooks on life. At their current age, their family's concern is upon which twin will inherit the estate. Three minutes certainly isn't enough to judge upon age, if you ask Daniel. Jameson reiterates that neither of their professions is any more or less legitimate, nor the way they conduct themselves. This is a new, modern world, after all!
Family:
Parents: Phillip Selby x Yasha Selby nee Dinuess
Twin brother: Jameson Selby

Name: Adyat
Gender: Male
Magic: Earth

Appearance: A pomegranate-themed hound of wine red with bright red, white, or pinkish spots and stripes across his coat.
Personality: He is an energetic and passionate hound, peppy and joyous nearly every moment. Even while sleeping his body reacts to his dreams in sometimes hilarious ways. For all that he is carefree and youthful, though, Adyat is more than capable of protecting himself and his Summoner. He will attack in a frenzy of claws and teeth, often forgetting that he has any magic at all.

The Summoning: It would have been impossible for the tolling to happen to one twin without the other hearing about it. There's no saying who began to hear it first, but one balmy evening stirred a conversation about the constant ringing. Neither was sure what was going on, and they didn't share when the curiosity became too great.

Imagine the Selbys' surprise when neither son could be found one morning, replaced by the breeze blowing through one window and the creeping silence behind a door left ajar.

Daniel had donned an unassuming outfit and struck out in the dark, the heady echo leading him west. He walked a long while before he came to the tunnel. Had he and Jameson explored this one as children? If so, why had the ringing only recently begun? There was only brief pause as he jumped into the mouth picked his way through the dust and rocks. He paced himself, never knowing how deep the rabbit hole went as the tolling grew louder and louder. Curiosity egged him on until he reached the bizarre, glowing room at the end. Well, he had certainly never seen one of these before. The tunnels had always led to a wall, a rock slide... something impassable. Now there were strange carvings, an ominous tome, a chest that smelled delicately of rot and spice. He approached the wall, touching his fingers to the outline of a fierce hound, its fangs bared toward a creature that his mind could not entirely comprehend. It was the stuff of legends...

Oh my. He suddenly felt not so well. Something was caressing his mind, slipping around the very form of his soul. He fought it, this impending darkness. Had he been drugged? Was there a gas leak? An effect of the atmosphere? Or, worse, had the powers that lined the walls of this tomb trapped him? He should have waited. He should have taken Jameson with him, or then would they both be dying? There was only so long he could stumble, only so many times he could shake his head before it took him.

Daniel awakened feeling oddly content without ever remembering closing his eyes. His lips snapped shut and his hands began to lower from the air. He found himself staring at a specific point in the ceiling. Was this how he had passed out? Huh. That was strange.

'Hello, human.'

Panic struck. Who was that? Where were they?! A quick spin revealed... nobody. He was alone. So where was this voice coming from?

"Hello? Where are you?"

'In a world you would never want to visit,' the voice responded decisively.

"Do you mean harm?" It seemed like the most reasonable reaction to have when a booming voice echoed within the very confines of your skull at the same time as it echoed off the walls, ricocheted between the stones...

'No! No harm. I seek to make a deal.'

Oh boy. This sounded quite a bit like a scary story, didn't it? A demon was prepared to wager unimaginable wealth and pleasure for his soul, his free will, some terrible sacrifice of health.

"No. Thank you."

'Please! Please, wait.'

Daniel hadn't moved. Could this creature even see him? Evil spirits sometimes plead, didn't they? No further reaction meant the man spoke again.

"Go on."

'To live is suffering. We are alone. We are in constant danger. Set me free.'

If there was ever a thing for an evil spirit to say! ... he had to admit, though, it did sound rather desperate. It could still be acting or trying to trick him...

"What are you?"

'I... am a spirit. Sometimes, a beast of paw and fur. Of teeth. I have seen one other in my lifetime...'

Jameson paused. He turned to the carvings on the walls, the valiant hounds with their Summoners by their sides. No... it couldn't... could it possibly be? He had only heard the legends.

"You're a hound."

'Perhaps.'

"If you come. If I let you come, do you swear to me that you won't hurt me? Those I love? Those who deserve no harm?"

'Yes.' The reply came without hesitation.

"...then I will give you a home, safe from whatever hell you find yourself in."

The event that followed was soundless, or else so loud that Daniel was deafened. He threw up his hands and a great light swirled in the air. He saw a brief glimpse of things unseen, and then at his feet sat a happy pup, its paws up on his shin.

'Thank you.'

Daniel laughed and crouched to pet the beast. He had been right, then. He was a Summoner, somehow, some way, without ever knowing it.

"Look at you!" he chimed, "You're so cute!"

At least the hound seemed amused, giving an open-mouthed pant that might have been a grin on a human. He lifted the creature and tucked it into his arms.

"It's quite a way out, you know... but I have such things to show you."

He would return home with this happy hound, pastry cream in its whiskers, to find his family in near crisis. It certainly hadn't felt like a full day...
