Sin who had stood unblinking opposite a Skinwalker, Sin who laughed at everyone, who took nothing seriously... was not sure what to think. Her mother had wandered off one day, and she'd... she'd had to accept that she'd never see her again. Like Father. She'd been angry. How could her mother leave her like that? She wasn't ready. It wasn't fair-- but fair had never seemed to matter all that much to the spirits. Kalona had taken her father, and she'd been sure he'd taken her mother, too. But then something had happened that had astonished even the unflappable Sin. Her mother had come back, and she'd come back changed.

It seemed as though she was the only one of her sisters to notice the change, or maybe they had just been caught up in their own lives. Malice was busy, after all. She'd had children. She had a family of her own. She wasn't stuck under her mother's wing. Not long after her mother's reappearance, an entire Kalona herd, an army of Kalona like her, had attacked the Kawani Soquili. She hadn't known there were even enough of her kind left to muster such a force in the first place! It was... almost unfathomable. Suddenly, the world was awash in Kalona, and she wasn't anywhere near as alone as she had been.

And she had choices. She didn't need to lower her standards if she did want to meet someone, which she wasn't even convinced of just yet. She'd seen it happen to other mares, and she didn't want any part of it. No, Sin was simply too good for that, and her father would've destroyed anyone who dared say otherwise. Of course, he couldn't do that from where he'd gone, but the point still stood. Anyway, it made a fantastic excuse to travel about, and it was probably a good thing that she was traipsing about the herd lands, because their warriors were being a little lax today. She'd driven off a few comers already, and even now she could smell someone she'd never met before.

Possibly several someones.

So Sin left her little patch of land, and made a beeline for the border, waiting to see if her suspicions proved to be correct. She settled herself upon a rock, standing like some kind of violet sentinel, and kept watch. Chances were that if there was someone out there, they probably wouldn't reveal themselves so easily, but she was awfully curious.

His time in the kawani had been short lived. However, even though the period of time had been short lived, it had proven itself to be quite enlightening. While coming into these lands had been on his short list of priorities, those in which matched the Great Kalona Protector and Alpha, things soon came into being that he had not intended. From the very moment his Protector and Alpha had come into the kawani lands things turned south very quickly. Time and time again he saw his brethren beaten and bruised, defeated by the non-kalona breeds. And time and time again he saw the Protector get more and more angry. It wasn’t long before he thought the protector was losing his mind.

No doubt, Azazel thought that kalona were a superior breed to most others. But on that same note he did not feel the need for bloodshed on a unfounded level. In fact, Azazel felt his allegiance to the Kalona Herd falter more and more each time his comrades came back bloodied and hurt. The thing was, Azazel did not feel anger or defeat towards the non-kalona defenders. In fact, they had every right to defend themselves. Did he, himself, believe that bloodshed was okay on their part. Of course not. Needless bloodshed was counterproductive. And that was the reason why he and other defected from the Kalona herd in favor of the kawani defenders.

Those who remained loyal would, no doubt, harbor ominous feelings towards him and the others. It was only fitting. But really, Azazel didn’t really feel the need to worry about it. Things would come as they come. And he would deal with whatever those things were when they presented themselves. So, as he plodded along the dirt path and through the trees he allowed himself to relax and enjoy the freeing journey. Most of the kalona he came with were now scattered across the kawani lands, most of which he would never see again. And that was okay.

The God Kalona had his ways of showing him the right path. And that was, at least to Azazel, what caused the downfall of the Protector’s desire. To him the God Kalona did not see the reason to cause hurt and destruction without reason. The Protector lost his way. And that’s why he was no longer in Kalona’s favor in Azazel’s eyes.

His tails twitched contemplatively as he came upon a crossroads. How fitting given his current musings as of late. What way to go? His golden eyes scanned each road respectively. Each with its own merits and probable desires. But nothing was really noteworthy. How sad….

At least until his eye caught a glimmer of something to the right. A shimmery purple glimmer. He turned his head to look.

Now that was different.

And so was the scent that came with a light gust of wind.
