((Cerise Clayborne and Dominic Styles)) Cherry was wiping up the front counter where a lot of people sat and ate at. The lunch crowd were dying away, and the atmosphere had calmed down a lot. The only other help with her this shift had left to make it to a class on time. She double checked all the coffee pots, and she went in the back to make sure everything was just as it should be. When she returned, she found a young man waiting at the "order here" spot. " What can I get you today? I can guarantee you anything I serve you will be totally delish."

His brain was kind of on the fritz, you could say. Surprisingly, though, today it wasn't because of his old man but more because a personal project had fizzled out and he'd lost another job. Again. What was that, the second one this month?
Dominic shuffled along the sidewalk rather aimlessly in a rather smelly set of clothes that he'd left in that old locker for a questionable amount of time (and quite obviously let it go the entire time without a run through the wash) after having been forced to change out of his old uniform. A sigh escaped the teen as the thought came to him, and without really thinking he ducked into the nearest store that had food and thought to drown his sorrows away. Maybe with some pie, but Mag's was nowhere to be seen so wherever he was would have to do.
They'd better have pie.
The DCU freshman walked into a somewhat familiar looking place -- maybe he'd visited once or twice before, he really couldn't be sure -- and headed straight for the counter, noting the lack of customers and, oddly enough, staff. Dom counted all of one head behind the counter, who was busy attending to...things...behind it. After arriving at the register, he waited patiently to be attended to, a small smile eventually tugging up the corners of his mouth when she greeted him. "I'll take a job opening if you've got any," he said with a bit of a chuckle, then waved his hand and dismissing the statement. "But if not, a slice of pie's good, too. With a glass of milk and some water."

" Sure thing, kid. Just you wait. Once you get a spoonful of my decadent and delicious pie in your mouth, you'll swear you died and went to heaven. Well.. or... went swimming in a pool of..." She looked at him. Oh wait. She probably shouldn't say that to him. He was probably too young for that kind of talk. Also, she might get in trouble if the owner heard her talking like that to customers too. She disappeared a moment and came back with a small plate with a slice of cherry pie. It was perfectly baked, and the filling inside was thick and soft and warm. She then went off to get his milk and water. Then, after that, she also went to get an application. It wasn't often she saw a lot of students in here at this time. This was a popular hour for classes or lectures. Should she even consider hiring someone who wasn't attending his classes? Well, she really did want to have more people on hand. More staff meant more time to herself outside of work. Finally, she returned and leaned against the counter. Her long chestnut curls cascading around her shoulders. " I .. might have a job. Are you qualified to serve people? This is a very service oriented field. If you can't tolerate people, you probably won't last too long." She smiled diplomatically and then looked up to see if anyone else needed anything.

Her comment got his small smile to widen just a bit, and after she disappeared to grab his order Dominic pulled out his wallet to pay for the meal. Really, he'd meant the job thing more as a joke than anything so he wasn't expecting her to bring it up at all. Once she set the pie down his mouth made a small "o" shape, deciding that it was one hell of a good looking slice of pie. Or maybe he was just hungry.
Dom was about to hand her his payment before she went off again somewhere, only to return with an application and started talking about a potential job opening. "I wasn't being serious..." he said with a sheepish sort of laugh, glancing back to see if there was anyone else in line. There was no one, thankfully, so after a pause he decided that it'd probably be...okay.
"Yeah, I guess?" came his answer, though for some reason he didn't sound all that confident about it. "I mean I get along with most people okay, so I think I'd be alright with this kind of job."

For the briefest of moments, her eyes flickered with a moment of utter embarrassment. DUH! Of course she knew he wasn't being serious! Only she hadn't really. However, she was far too conceited to even think of admitting she didn't know. What would have been a flooding look of mortification was quickly absorbed by a cocky smirk. " Whatever.. .I knew that, so in that case, I'll just take that back." She pulled the paper back and slipped it under the counter. Then, she went into just playing it off through her infinite self love. " I get it. It's totally fine. You were probably led in by rumors of the hot babe who works here and makes the most mouthwatering spoonful of anything you'll ever taste. It happens." Then again, she was often convinced half the people who came in there in the morning; they came just to admire her. Whether that had any truth or not was irrelevant. She believed it was the case. How would it not be? She waited as she partially felt like she should check on some things, but she also wasn't going to miss out on watching someone try her goods for the first time.

Any change in facial expression was lost to the teen as he watched the employee casually take back the offer and the paper that he actually thought to fill up. His mouth flipped to the slightest of frowns, but handed her his payment and shrugged in the end. Some part of him figured that he'd end up getting fired again considering his luck, so maybe this was just saving him from the trouble? He still needed another job, though. Or wanted one...he didn't actually need a job at all, but he liked being able to say that he had one.
"I..." and he hesitated a bit before giving another shrug. "Yeah, let's go with that story," Dom finished, his smile slowly returning. He couldn't be in a sour mood all day anyway, and looking down at the proffered pastry he was already starting to feel a little better. Maybe when he got home he could manage to be a little more productive today, maybe think up a new project to start slaving over.
"Well..." the teen started a bit awkwardly again, his mind flip-flopping between whether or not he'd seriously ask about a job this time. In the end he decided that it probably couldn't hurt. And he really did want another job. It kept him busy, especially now that his dad was starting to breathe down his neck. "I didn't think there'd actually be an opening, so...yeah. I am kind of looking for a job, though."

She grinned wide. Her cocky expression softening into a friendly satisfied one at his agreement that was why he had come in there. Of course! Who didn't want to go with that story. Noone, that's who; to her anyways. Her brows rose in surprise to see him be more serious about it. She smiled ever so diplomatically at him. She leaned up against the counter and leaned her head forward a little. She was careful to keep her tresses behind her shoulders. " I have to tell you a secret though." She peered around and then looked back at the young man in front of her. " I'm not actually given authority to hire anyone directly, but I could maybe put in a good word for you. You seem a nice enough guy to me." Not that she was any good judge of character. She never felt a need for other people to actually have good character. She just wanted their admiration. Or rather, she just liked their attention.

Considering her smile Dom almost felt bad that he'd just used the story she gave him as a sort of way to not have to explain that he'd been having a bad day. Still, at least she bought it; he'd just have to find solace in that fact. Which wouldn't be all that hard since he didn't know her at all, beyond perhaps being the person who served him pie. The teen waited for her reply in hopes of maybe landing a job, but when she finally spoke it was something he couldn't really be too happy about.
"Oh," he said, his small smile going flat. "Well, alright. Better than nothing, I guess." Dom shrugged and fumbled through his pockets for a pen. "Maybe I could leave my contact information in case there's an opening in the future?" He'd done it before, granted it was his friend who said would put in a good word for him. That...ended pretty badly, but Dom hoped that wouldn't be the case this time around.
"Name's Dominic, by the way," the teen went on, finally procuring a pen from the depths of his one jacket pocket (he couldn't remember ever putting it there, but whatever).

She blinked at him a few times. Seeing the pen brought out, she then looked him over again with a more serious intake. " Oh, I guess I wasn't sure whether you wanted it or not. Here, you can just fill out the application. I'll turn it in and put in a good word for ya." She gave him the paper back, and she gave him a playful wink. " Nice to meet ya, Dominic. People call me Cherry. You can call me that too." Not that her real name was a secret, but she didn't always tell everyone her real name. That was for people who took time to actually get to know her. " Sometimes... guys who go out with me call me Cherry Pie, but those stories would probably be boring." She pursed her lips together when she saw he wasn't seeming to feel much better for having eaten some of her pie. Something had to be wrong. Maybe ... " Would you like me to put whip cream on there? Or... you want me to get you something else? Or... maybe you just need someone to talk to? I'm no bartender, but I can listen just the same."

This wasn't how the hiring process was supposed to work, but Dom wasn't about to go and punch the gift horse in the face. Or whatever the expression was. With a smile he took the application and took a seat nearby the register, pie and the rest of his order in tow, to start filling it up. He listened to her introduction and glanced up, even stopping his writing to give her a wave before taking another bite out of the pie.
"Likewise, Cherry," the teen returned, deciding that adding the "Pie" would be a little...odd, seeing as he neither knew her well enough nor was he dating her. Her question brought a puzzled sort of look to his face, and he had to shake his head. "No, it's great," he said in a relatively reassuring tone. Once he'd finished filling up the form he handed it back to her, a little unsure what to make of her offer to talk. Dom had never been much of a sharer, so he wasn't exactly all that comfortable sharing his troubles with someone he'd just met.
Opting to go down the polite road, of course, he offered a smile and a slight shake of his head at her offer. "Been having a rough day, but nothing I can't handle. Thanks for the offer, though." He'd probably be leaving a good tip behind for her trouble. "Still," he went on, peering around the rest of the cafe after taking another bite of pie. "This place is pretty empty right now. Isn't about time for the lunch rush or something?"

" We already had it." She shrugged with a happy smile on her face. " We are actually due for a shift change in an hour. And, actually, soon as you leave, I'll probably have to go help wash some dishes or something. Since I'm not a student, I'm the only person usually around who doesn't have to be in and out at certain times." Boy, maybe she was just in a sharing kind of mood today. She went over to the register to ring him up.

Her easy reply made him blink, then pull out his phone to check the time. It was well past time for the noon rush, obviously, so again Dominic passed off his stupid question with a sheepish sort of laugh. And then he went back to his pie and polished off the plate. Mm, pie. Pie was good. Pie didn't embarrass him at all, nope. "'Kay, so that was good. Could I have another?" he asked before taking a sip of his milk.
Dom considered the information that she'd given freely while she rang him up, oddly enough a little finding himself a bit more curious. Most servers preferred not to share too-personal information; usually they ran along the safe side and exchanged small talk with customers. It was kinda nice, actually; weather never made for an interesting topic anyway. "That sucks..." He sipped at his milk and thought of getting loaded with other's people responsibilities, his lip curling at the idea. "I'd be pissed if I got stuck with someone else's work. You should get paid extra for that kind of thing."

Cherry just shrugged with a half smile. It was full of surrender to the fact that sometimes; things fell to her to be the grownup. This had been the story of her life for years now. It by far part of the driving force behind her growing need to be more outlandish in her personal time. The thought of how that truly does suck at times threatened her eyes momentarily. However, his request for more pie sailed right in as a timely rescue. She lit up brightly. " Sure thing, kid." She glanced at him as she went to get a fresh plate for his next slice. " Sorry, Dom, was it?" The side of her profile that faced him smirked a little in an obviously playful way. When she brought it over to slide in front of him and take away his empty, " You can have anything you want." Then she grinned a little more. " Just tell me what I can get you." It was one of those sorts of things she loved to say that sounded as though it contained a myriad of meanings.

Dominic watched her carefully, shoveling a spoonful of pie every few moments as he did. His comment didn't really get much out of her, except maybe some kind of look that he didn't really catch. Anger? Frustration? Resignation? It was gone in an instant and she was right back into their conversation, though, so the teen polished off his second slice and set his spoon down.
Her little comment got a bit of a smirk out of him, and he shrugged. "Two slices is kinda pushing it, so I think I'm good for now." Dom finished off his milk then, quietly setting the glass down before flashing a smile. The fact that there was more than one way to take that statement amused him somewhat, though the teen didn't read too much into it. She seemed the friendly sort, and he assumed it was just how she talked to every customer. "I'll have to remember to take you up on that offer when I come back. That pie's worth a trip all the way over here from my apartment."
The teen downed his water and pulled out his wallet then, at first just to pull out a tip, before an idea struck him. "Uh, actually. Can I take a whole pie to go?" Yeah, it was that good.

She smiled with a face full of the cat who ate the canary even though this little service with a student was pretty tame and not containing any of the sort of innuendo talk she had with certain persons she knew. Even though the pie in question that day wasn't one out of her own recipes, she still took the compliments in and puffed up over them all the same. Of course it was good; she fed him. She baked it still. If she put her hands to anything involving baking, she was indisputably convinced it would be the best. " Glad you liked it!" She purred at first. Then, hearing him ask for a whole pie. Well, any more strokes to her ego wasn't really going to hurt much or push her much past where she was already. " Oh, certainly. I need you to do me a little favor though." She leaned in a conspiratorial sort of way. It was an almost devious glint in her eye. " If they ask you where you got it, just tell em that Cherry made it just for you. That if they like it so much, they should come find Cherry for themselves." Would he actually do that? Well, who would even know. You never knew what anyone said or did once they were out the door. Still, she was feeling rather satisfied with this outcome. She sauntered off to get that whole pie with a step that was full of triumph.
