(this is an rp between Cerise Clayborne and Ava Faulkner)

She wandered to a park that was closer to the center of town and further from the University campus. She worked close enough to the campus, so she wanted to get out and do something different, see something different. Her eye was looking for something that looked whimsical, sentimental, or just picturesque. Of course, everything she took was picturesque. She thought so anyways.

She decided to take a seat with her thermos of hot chocolate. She sat down. She adjusted her earmuffs to keep them on her ears. The winter winds were just too chilly for her sometimes. She was much more a spring and summer kind of girl.

Sitting there allowing her eyes to roam for something to catch her eye. Something that demanded her camera immortalize its breathlessness forever. She then saw someone else with a camera. Wow. Do great minds think alike or what. Cherry got up and walked over to her. She opened her thermos pouring some of the cocoa into the lid that functioned as a cup. "Care for some cocoa?"

If there was one season Ava hated the most it was certainly winter. Everything was bleak, grey, cold, white and so depressing. Really how any artist survived out here in winter was beyond her, photographers certainly did not have it easy during the bitter months of winter. The only thing that was worth taking pictures of was children going down slopes, smiles bright on their faces as they raced each other to the bottom. Couples ice skating was one of her favourites she had to admit; the slipping and falling, the awkward grabbing and of course the kissing in motion. Christmas would have been a given if her family even celebrated it anymore. No tree for her this year.

Once in a while though, there was something else to grab into a still image. At that moment, Ava was trying to get a picture of some sort of bird in a tree. She liked the contrasts to the harsh background of the little brown bird, plus she actually liked birds, so she decided to grab a few stiles for herself. She was looking down at her camera and reviewing her work when someone approached her and Ava only looked up when the girl actually started talking to her. It looked like the other woman was also into photography and offering her… Hot chocolate? “Ah no thanks.” She wasn’t exactly the kind of person to just accept things strangers gave her. “I like your camera.” Ava pointed to it, she didn’t mind talking photography with others in her field tho.

Cherry nodded with a gracious accepting someone refusing anything she had offered. She sipped it, and when it was empty recapped on top of the thermos. Hearing the comment about her camera, she made a shy almost embarrassed smile. "Oh, well thanks. It's one of my dad's old ones. Eventually, I'll stop being a mooch and penny up for a decent one of my own."

She then decided she could either stay here and try to chat. Or, she could just walk away and find something else to do. Well, there wasn't a lot going on. She lingered a few moments. "What are you capturing today? Anything dazzling or soul enriching?"

Most of her own shots weren't either of those things. They usually were either just cute or of things that looked fun. Sometimes, they were just of things or people that looked appealing to herself personally. She was nothing if not selfish and self serving.

“Your dads into photography? He must be quite the hobbyist to have that camera.” Usually only people who were really into photography got such nice cameras, so her dad was probably some full time photographer. Nice. Ava’s only family was so uninvolved in her hobbies it was like trying to teach a five year how algebra worked, she’d given up rather quickly on sharing what she did with them. “A couple of months of intense saving and you should be fine.” Hers had been a gift from her mother, but a lawyer had no trouble being the expensive gifts. She didn’t know what the other girl did, but anyone who put their mind to it could save up for anything if they had the patience.

Ava motioned up at the tree at the brown bird that was still exactly where she’d previously captured it, it chirped happily. “Nothing dazzling and definitely nothing soul enriching. I hate winter, it’s so bleak.” She sighed loudly. “But, that bird looks quite pretty and I do like birds so I guess I got lucky when I caught him flying about.” She had also hopped other birds would join it, but so far it looked like it was either flying solo or waiting for others to join it. “The cold really doesn’t help.” Everything liked to hide where it was nice and warm, even people didn’t like to be out and about.

"Well, these days, his photography is mostly restricted to private family functions. Or, things he wants me to sell for him online. However, once upon a time many years ago, he used to be a major photographer. He did a lot of wildlife stuff. Traveled abroad and all that. Going to like.. far off locations. Obscure things every day people don't get to go to or see."

She smiled a bittersweet smile. She always had mixes of bittersweet feelings about her folks. They were amazing people with an amazing love story. Yet, as they were in the middle of the primes of their lives and their life together; hardships struck. While that really didn't mean more than tests and trials where life makes us prove what and who are important to us; to Cherry-It made her truly question the point of doing anything important with her own. What was the point of working hard and pursuing a dream to have it dashed away in a heartbeat? Was it worth it?

Her eyes then looked up to the birds. "Oh, right you are. Birds are amazing. When one spot isn't too great, they can just flutter to a new one. Life is so simple."

“Ah that’s too bad.” Ava wondered why the woman’s father had stopped if he’d been able to travel so much. Maybe he had galleries, and the thought struck her that maybe she’d be able to get into more galleries. “Does your father own galleries than if he doesn’t travel as often?” She hoped the question wasn’t too forward, maybe something else had happened for him not to photograph anymore. Ava knew that a lot of photographers turned to another profession if they couldn’t find the work. Personally, Ava wanted to do high fashion photographs because she loved the creativity behind them and they usually made lots of money.

“I’m Ava by the way.” She shifted her camera over to her other hand and extended the now free gloved hand towards the girl. She may as well introduce herself especially if this girl had a father who was also into photography, never hurt to make friends. Networking was important even if Ava disliked them, but without the connections she wouldn’t be able to do anything she wanted. It would be important to her then, to make a few friends along the way. She had already a few contacts, but having more was always better.

Cherry shook her hand. She came around and sat on the bench beside her. "Yeah. You're totally right about it being too bad. I've told him for years that just because he's not well enough to travel doesn't also have to mean he isn't well enough to do anything. I think that's just a man thing though. Like... guys when their pride is hurt; they can be quite babies about it."

Galleries? "Galleries like... art galleries?" It had never occurred to Cherry that people had gallery exhibits of just photographs. Most of any she had gone to had mostly just paintings. She didn't hate art, but she wasn't very enthusiastic about it either; thus she never paid any of it some attention. "Nice to meet you Ava! I'm Cherry! Well... I go by Cherry. My real name is Cerise." She laughed at bothering to tell anyone her real name. Noone really called that except for her mother and grandparents.

“Very true, he could do commercial if he wanted to.” Granted if her father did wildlife he probably wasn’t into fashion or anything that had to do with magazines. “Yes, art galleries to display your art and sometimes people buy them. I guess your father has never done them? He should, the exposure is great and it’s a quick way to make some nice cash.” She wouldn’t mind doing a gallery opening once in a while, would help her move out and get her own place. Granted, her job as a wedding planner assistant was just as important until she had a steady income.

“Nice to meet you Cherry.” Ava spoke French, so she was curious to know if the other girl did as well. “Cerise is French, is your family French?” If they were from somewhere where French was the predominant language it would explain why Cherry had decided to change it to Cherry here.

Cerise just glanced passively at this new acquaintence. Hmm. "Yeah. Seems like... he could really benefit from that. Not to mention, I bet it'd be great seeing him go out places and do things. Been forever, he probably just had one of thos things men get. They lose half a leg, and they go into utter depressive mode and never wanna be seen again sometimes." For a flicker of a moment, thinks maybe her father was prouder than she thought.

Cherry also considered the aspect of him earning some extra money. Not that they were super broke. Whenever things were super super bad; her father seemed to have some hat trick for coming up with just enough money for them to get by. She sometimes wondered if it were a secret nest egg they were saving till she moved out or got married. She rolled her eyes at that idea. That's probably what it really was. Their funds to support the endeavors of future grandchildren.

"Um.. my mother and her family are French. Apparently, my mother is from France. My dad met her while there on a trip. They fell madly in love, and they quickly married at some little chapel over there. Then, her father was wroth when he found out they did it without his blessing. Then, they had another bigger one for family. My father is from the states. He's from more the midwest though. They felt this was a nicer town to raise a family in. It has a university and everything."

She didn't mention that it had a university that she never attended.

“Men.” Ava said sourly thinking about her own father who had pretty much abandoned his family. “They go into depression mode when things don’t go their way period.” And they complained that woman were bad? Her father had thrown more fits in her lifetime than she’d ever seen all of her female family members combined do, and yet he still blamed them for all of their problems. The thought made her angry, real angry. She dismissed the thought rapidly though, no need to get so angry at her friend anyway; it wasn’t her fault Ava’s father were complete moron.

“That’s pretty neat.” Ava didn’t have any nifty heritage she didn’t think, granted being a senshi certainly added something spicy to the mix. She didn’t however, offer the comment to Cerise. It wasn’t that she didn’t like the girl, she was nice, but Ava wasn’t into sharing much. So she quickly switched the subject to something else. “It’s getting kinda cold out here; I’m going to go grab something to warm me up a bit. I know this café place near here, you’re more than welcomed to come along if you want.” A new friend in a new city couldn’t hurt.

On the one hand, Cherry had come to the park in a nice sweater and one of her black leather jackets. Still, she often felt like she had nearly not enough female friends. She went through men like a starving person might attack a cheeseburger. While some of those men became good friends, she still felt like she was lacking something. Friends was likely that something. Everyone needed good friends, and Cherry couldn't even count on one hand the people she thought would do anything for her, always have her back, or she could call no matter the time of day. She didn't dwell on this though. Dwelling on those sorts of thoughts was like akin to thinking that she was unfriendly or unworthy of friends. Her arrogant selfish pride wouldn't allow her to even admit it to herself.

No, Cherry was a vain creature. Still, that was an area of her life that needed serious work. She wasn't about to turn this girl down or refuse. "Oh, sure! Now, that I think about it. I did forget breakfast. They make anything especially good that's warm?"
