I miss getting announcements from Timmy, Rina, and the other NPCs that weren't usually trying to sell you something. This wouldn't be such a problem if it weren't for EVERY announcement being about cash and cash shop "deals" and cash shop items.

Is it actually possible to block NPCs? If so...this news interests me greatly. ninja

I've heard the ignoring them doesn't actually stop the announcements.
I'd be interested if it does work.
To be honest, I don't mind the deluge of cash shop announcements so much. I like to keep on top of the fluctuations in the economy, and I feel lonely if I log on and there's nothing new to see. Doesn't take long to click through them.
I can hardly remember any announcements that weren't the (buy buy buy) MC letters opening, or about (buy buy buy) EIs, or that wasn't an apology or clarification for some cash item. Nevermind all the sales. Even the gold shop updates are still buy, buy, buy.
Do they even bother to make announcements for the start of events anymore? The winter one sneaked up on me.
Edit: Page streeeeeetch.

Any account can be blocked. But you will still get announcements and PMs from NPCs. I wish it were possible to turn off announcements.

Page streeeeeeetch indeed. My b.
And unfortunately, you've heard right. Although blocking them is possible, you will still receive notifications and PMs from them.
Hm. I prefer logging on to forum, PM, and profile comment notifications over Jet and Cygnus. But you're right, clicking through the announcements is effortless.
I remember most of the announcements pertaining to what the Updates now tell us. That and events, games, conventions, etc. I think they probably assume the event link/animation in the header is enough when it comes to announcing events.
When I joined on my first account in 05, announcements were, at the very least, something to raise your eyebrow at and go 'I WONDER WHAT THIS IS?'
Now it's 'I wonder what they're trying to sell me now?'

This. This is how I would describe my thoughts on the current influx of announcements about the cash shop/cash/oink compared to past announcements about new features to the site.

I know that it can be rather frustrating - I mean, yeah, even I am getting rather irritated with the sudden influx of Cash Shop announcements (after all, pressuring your 'customers' is never the best tactic, because they'll get annoyed, and then won't return) - with all these events that have been happening, but for the most part, just grit your teeth and bear with it.
Or, better yet, ignore it.
And many of these cash pushes - with the exception of Gold Generators, unfortunately - relate to items, and hey, everyone loves new items (or at least, I do). And the bundles; it's also an effective way of putting more items into the marketplace, and lowering the prices of many items at once, so that they can become obtainable for those who couldn't afford them normally.
I mean, of course there is a negative side to it - but Nikko has an excellent point. This should be a positive guild, so try to keep things positive, and especially away from 'killing' anyone, fictional or real, okay?

Page stretch =.="
I always check the announcement, treat it like advertisement or information. since I like to know what's going on or what new item they are having or even flynn or any gold generator(even if I don't want to see it ever again if I can) because, if item I own suddenly appeared in a bundle or they re-release it, I will go to market to sell it asap. it's useful for this. or when gold generator hit, well, time to save my item up.
those, so I am never bothered by the announcement I pick jet btw, I am not fond of the way jet talk in announcement.

Hiya Lyonel Noale *waves* Your very kind thank ya, I totally understand what you all mean. I'm just ignoring all the announcements lately, but sometimes I'm thinking at least Gaia is putting out more announcements whether they're about cash or not. blaugh Gaia has become a bit more active in that department, I do want more staff notices though. Updates about what they're working on are nice, maybe some hits? eh eh *nudge* redface
