Goretti should have been inside. It wasn't that late, but it was dark, and it was cold, and he should have been inside so he didn't catch a cold—like his father had warned him about…
But it had snowed earlier in the day, and if being a senshi wasn't already enough to get him out, that would have. It wasn't particularly thick, and even if it started snowing again tonight he didn't think it would be enough to cancel school in the morning. His father seemed convinced it was going to melt by sunrise—and that meant that he had to enjoy it now.
Sneaking out to the park would have been easier if he hadn't realized that sneaking in and out of his window was going to leave tracks, so between crawling out of his window and actually getting there he had to spend a few minutes running through the yard to hide any suspicious tracks before he set off.
It was a slightly disheartening trek now that the city had taken down all the wonderful Christmas lights, but he didn't have much time to be sad before something else caught his interest.
An aura.
A strange, different aura, that he couldn't make heads or tails of. Which, of course, meant he had to investigate.
He knew chibis. He knew White Moon Senshi. He knew Negas. He knew corrupted senshi.
But this?
He had no idea what this was, and while he wanted to run head-first to greet it, he remembered all the warnings he'd been given. Carefully, he walked across the snow, footsteps crunching as quietly as he could make them. He hid behind trees, holding his breath and sneaking around. He was not stealthy by nature, but after all the bad stories he'd heard…he had to be careful. This was serious, not a game. Any moment out here could be his last…
Every little sound was making him jump; being serious was just making him paranoid. In the night, he could feel the aura, thought he had to be close…but he couldn't see anyone. Peering around a tree, he slipped from it to the next, hoping to find this strange aura before it found him.

The scientist called it the Polar Vortex and suspected it would be one of the coldest winters the northern hemisphere would ever face, and that alone felt like a powerful enough excuse to avoid transforming and taking the streets as her new alter ego. Bethany Wyatt, as eager and willing as she was to throw down her life for the Dark Mirror Court, had not been patrolling in these last few days due to the weather, and the attire she wore as a Canopus wasn't exactly forgiving to such horrid temperatures. Maybe it made her look weak, but she opted to stay indoors on those nights, but now that the Polar Vortex had passed, she ventured out once more.
Once again she powered up, and Sailor Canopus retreated to the one place that held such fond memories and felt like a sanctuary to her ever since awakening and finding her calling to the Court. The park was, as always, beautiful, even when drenched in heavy snow, though she lamented the loss of the holiday lights that once decorated the trees and poles. Still, it held a certain beauty to her...
A beauty that was now tarnished by what she felt to be an Order aura. It was peculiar, different, but definitely of Order origin, and that was enough to get Canopus' heart racing in both fear and anticipation. This wasn't the first time she felt such an aura, but it was the first time she felt it in the sanctuary of the park, and this definitely didn't settle well with her. This wasn't their place to be! They had no right to be here... did they?
Despite her initial fear, Canopus sought out the aura, her hands trembling and hoping one would think it was from the cold and not out of fear or anger. She followed the aura, even when it lead her away from the pavement and into the wet snow, getting closer and closer to the trees and now fearing that whoever was lurking about was hiding amongst the tree tops. Who would be the one to speak out first? Who would be the one to lash out and start the inevitable fight?
Canopus hoped it wouldn't have been her...

Goretti didn't know what he expected to find while snooping around like that, but when he heard the sound of someone approaching, he knew he had to act first. Weapon-wise, he knew he wouldn't stand a chance, so in this weather he gathered the first thing he could think of to serve as a quick defense; he crouched and scooped some of the snow into a sloppy, wet snowball before standing.
The movement sounded like it was getting closer; he knew he couldn’t put it off for any longer. In a burst of fear and adrenaline, he spun around the corner to confront his fears—and screamed, "Goretti Glue Puddle!"
He had hardly any time to aim before he was hurling the snowball—right at her.
Wait, her?
Goretti had no idea what he was expecting, but it was not a teenage girl—and while realization was swift, it seemed like time was moving slowly as he watched the glue begin to puddle beneath her feet, and the snowball arc towards her face.
His eyes were wide, but he made no move to save her; he still had no idea what she was, but she was human, and he had the distinct feeling that he'd done something wrong.
So he immediately hid behind the tree and hoped she wouldn't see him, and then if all went well, he'd just sneak away and go back home and he could pretend like none of this had ever happened.

Goretti Glue Puddle: A puddle of glue roughly two feet wide sprouts from beneath the target's feet and remains for twenty five seconds. The target will find it exceptionally difficult to ply their feet from the ground, and should they manage to free themselves from the glue puddle (as it can be done, more often than not by higher level characters) each following step will also be hindered by the clinging glue. After twenty five seconds, the glue turns to dust and loses all of its sticky properties. This attack can be used once per battle.

For a moment, the only sound Canopus could hear was the crunching of snow under her feet, but that only amplified the twisted nerve of fear within her all the more. If it was an enemy that intended on doing harm, then she would have appreciated if they'd simply come out and announce it. Maybe they caught sight of her and were either ashamed of fighting someone that looked so cold and meek, or maybe they had second thoughts on their standing in this war? Maybe she scared them?
Given the cold and desolate atmosphere around them, Canopus couldn't really fault him, or her, for being too afraid to strike first. Perhaps she could fall back and call for help- whoever it was may have been trying to set up a trap, and she'd be damned if she'd fall for it. Maybe a retreat was in order-
Suddenly there came a noise, a shout, and Canopus could not stop herself from giving a scream, raising her hands up and trying to protect her face from the incoming attack, whatever it may be. She felt something cold hit her hands and feared that maybe it was a senshi of ice, and any attempt to try to retreat back a few steps was ruined when she felt the ground change beneath her feet. She couldn't move!
"What's this? What is... is this glue?" Canopus looked down at her feet and tried tugging her feet free, but it was no use! That was the Senshi's attack, not the snowball! It was a trap, and she fell for it! She wasn't prepared for something like this, so instead of sticking around to be ambushed by the other Senshi that may have been laying in wait, Canopus tried to pull herself free. The moment her legs were freed, she'd run to the closest mirror she could find and retreat back to the safety of the Mirrorverse.

"Yes!" the boy blurted. "It's glue! I'm sorry, I thought you were a monster!" Or something!
This wasn't what he wanted to be! It was one thing to be prepared for an attack, but it was another thing entirely to be the one to start with an attack! He didn't want to face the girl now that he felt he had wronged her, but he couldn't just run away and pretend it didn't happen, and if he just stayed here and hid he knew it would keep him up and unhappy with himself.
Reluctantly, he mustered up the willpower to step out from behind the tree. "If you're not a bad person, at least, I'm sorry. If you're a bad person, it serves you right. But I never met anyone that felt like you before. Who…what are you?"

Among her tugging and pulling, she was surprised to hear a voice call out to her, and she stopped her frantic movements to get a better look at the White Moon senshi that emerged from behind the trees. She was expecting to see someone frightening, a criminal mastermind that fit the bill in orchestrating such a clever scheme, and yet what saw saw startled her.
"But... you're just a child..." Canopus said softly, looking over the senshi and trying to fathom what she was seeing before her. His aura gave off that he was a Senshi of the enemy, but he was clearly just a child! "Why is the White Moon Court enlisting ones so young?"
In regards to his question, she answered in earnest. After all, she was still stuck in place, so what did she have to lose. "I'm Canopus... I'm from the Dark Mirror Court. I'm here to save this city, so... I'm not a bad person, I don't think. But what are you?"

"I'm a chibi, and it was my choice," he insisted, unwilling to give someone an excuse to blame the White Moon Senshi for enlisting a child. "And it's not like I'm going to be a kid for much longer, I have a birthday coming up."
He wasn't sure if that made everything better, but as soon as he was thirteen, people would have to stop calling him a child! …Well, if he started growing enough to look like one; it wasn't like he was going to walk around with a sticker on his chest that said, 'Hi, I'm Goretti, I'm thirteen!'
He watched the senshi in front of him warily, but she didn't seem evil or menacing. "I never met a Dark Mirror Court person before. If you're not a bad person, why do you feel bad? It's weird…"
But, Goretti understood that weird was not always bad, and he asked with an open mind as he lingered against the tree he had hid behind in case Canopus had something evil up her sleeve.

"A Chibi? And... your choice?" Canopus didn't mean to parrot the phrase as she certainly understood the words, but that wasn't what she didn't understand. What she didn't understand was how someone so young could come to such a decision so early in their lives. Did he not realize how dangerous it was? What was her Court's standing on such Chibi senshi? All questions, no answers...
Yet, as confused as she was, she managed to find her wit about her, enough to congratulate him on his upcoming birthday, at least. "Well, Happy Birthday... whenever that is. I hope it's a happy one for you."
She gave her foot another yank and could feel the glue beginning to weaken, which meant that she only had to stall for a little while longer. At least he seemed more curious as to who and what she was than springing an ambush, and Canopus answered with no quilt or fear. "I probably feel 'bad' because I'm different from you. It's hard to explain, but I'm not 'bad'. Not like the Negaverse, nor the court you currently work for. And I know that though you feel 'bad' to me, you're not... you're just different from me."

Goretti watched her with mild interest, slowly nodding. "Usually I don't judge people just because they're different from me, but I've had a lot of people warn me about people who walk with Chaos. People who would—you know—hurt me, without so much as a second thought. Who have no issues with killing people. Canopus," he said, testing out the name before he hesitantly walked over and offered a hand to help her balance while she tried to pull herself out of the glue. "You're not like that, right? You…and your group, they're…I mean, you really don't think you're the bad guys? And you really…you really don't go around hurting people? Because if you don't, I'm so, so sorry, and I'd really like to be friends and I'll find some way to make up for attacking you like that. I don't want to be the bad guy, so I didn't mean to hurt you, if I did. I just…everyone's so worried about me, because I'm a kid. And yeah, I'm young, but oh, well. So was everyone, at one point! It's not like I'm five or something. Or maybe I'm just getting arrogant, I don't know."
He sighed and then shrugged. "I just can't wait until I grow up and can be a normal senshi and everyone will take me seriously. But I guess, I hope by the time that happens, we're all friends and have worked everything out and the world is good. And maybe by then, nobody will even need to fight anymore. That's all I want, I guess."

"People who walk with Chaos?" Canopus parroted the phrase, as though repeating it out loud would have the statement make more sense to her? Chaos? What did he mean? Then, it dawned on her, and her smile was kind, picturing herself as one of the sisters at the church that was correcting a misconception during one of their readings. "Oh, you mean how I feel when I'm close to you? No, that's not what you think it is. I'm nothing at all like the Negaverse or their senshi. I'm simply of a different universe, if that makes sense… so I'll feel different."
She didn't think there was chaos within her, anyways. Perhaps their was and she was the one mistaken, but it hurt her to see how confused this poor child appeared. No surprised, considering the Court that lured in one so young! It was almost enough to make her seethe, but she kept the impulse to herself, not at all wanting him to think that he had done anything to displease her. She was more than grateful when he approached and offered her a hand to stable herself, and despite her initial fear of him and the situation she found herself in, she welcomed it. Even if what he said left a bitter taste in her mouth. "Killing? Oh, no, I'm afraid you've mistaken me for a Negaverse officer. Dark Mirror Court don't kill… at least, I do not think we do. We do require some energy and thus we gladly take donations, but I'd never kill anyone. Ever. At least… I hope I never have to."
The mere thought of it scared her more than facing any attack from a White Moon Senshi, and she hoped it would never come to that. Prince Remarque did not appear the king of murder in her eyes, and she trusted him more than anything else. Despite feeling like the other senshi, Canopus found herself completely enthralled with the young chibi, and she couldn't help but giggle at his apology. "Don't apologize. In your mind, I felt like I was dangerous and you acted… I can't blame you for that, and no harm done, right? There's no need to apologize, but I think I owe you one for startling you… and treating you like a child. You're obviously old enough to make your own decisions."
One that she wasn't too happy with, but perhaps she could save Goretti. Finally, her feet were freed from the gooey substance, but Canopus didn't immediately run away. There was no need to now, and she took a moment to admire the chibi senshi to express such honest thoughts and dreams. "I wouldn't be so quick to want to grow up so soon. It's not as fun as you'd think it'd be, but I understand wanting others to take you seriously. Maybe someday, our courts can come to some kind of understanding and we can be friends? I'd like to be your friend… I'm sorry, I don't think I ever caught your name?

"Oh—Goretti," the boy informed quickly. "Sorry, I guess I get kinda flaky when I'm jumpy. But, I'm Goretti, Senshi of Glue. And it's really nice to meet you! I mean, now that we got all that other stuff sorted out. I'd like to be friends."
She didn't seem like a bad person, after all—and while Goretti found himself bouncing between knowing who was good or bad, it didn't mean that he couldn’t make friends wherever they sprouted up. Of course, just in case, he really shouldn't be running around with her, powered down, but if she was his friend, then maybe if she ran into him while he was in trouble, she could help him out. Or he'd help her!
Or maybe they'd never see each other again, which might have been best since they wouldn't have ever had to fight again, but as long as Canopus seemed like she was all right, Goretti wasn't going to pick a fight again. Instead, he seemed more interested. "From another universe…must be lonely! Is your universe different than this one? If you need me to show you around, I will!

"Goretti? That's a wonderful name," Canopus said with a warm smile to contrast the bitter cold around them. She didn't necessarily need to know what his sphere was as she figured it out the hard way, but she could at least attest to its effectiveness when used in combat. Anyone that didn't take the chibi soldiers from the White Moon seriously would likely get what's coming to them soon enough. She addressed him as though he were of the same age as her- after all, he more than earned that respect in her mind and she understood that desire to be treated with respect, more than she was willing to let on. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Goretti. I hope we can be good friends."
She still pondered her court's standing on Chibi senshi or making friends with the enemy, but it was something she could easily find out and recover from. There was no serious harm done and though it might have been foolish of her, she trusted Goretti, more than she probably had any reason to. Still, it never hurt to make friends. She merely hoped that she wouldn't have to break it off any time soon. In reply to his curiosity, she answered as truthfully as she could. "It's complicated, I'm afraid, but you shouldn't worry about me. I'm not lonely, so long as I have my court, and I still remember my way around this city. But, I greatly appreciate the offer."
It made her wonder if all of the White Moon court was capable of reaching such an understanding as she did with Goretti. Perhaps peace between both factions was possible, they simply needed to talk out their differences more? It was worth considering, at least.
"I'm going to be heading home now- please, tell me you'll be careful on your way home?" She didn't wish to rush out the door, so to speak, but she worried for his safety- what if someone from the Negaverse charged in and tried to harm him? She couldn't bare the thought, but she knew she couldn't guide him home. That would be too dangerous for both of them...

"I'll be careful," Goretti promised. "I should probably be heading home soon, too. It's cold and late and I think I've gotten into enough trouble for one night! You take care on your way home! And tell your court to give you more clothes! You have to be freezing!"
He waved, even as he trotted away.
Goretti might have been a child, but he wasn't entirely foolish; he set off in a very roundabout way. It added almost fifteen minutes onto his trek home, but after he was a short distance away from Canopus, he had taken off at top speed, intending to lose her if she was following him. Her energy signature faded from his radar after a short while, and eventually he powered down to make sure he didn't seem any more suspicious.
By the time he reached his window, his teeth were chattering and he was too cold to try to wrap his mind about Canopus or the Dark Mirror Court.
He'd have to find her again—find more of them—and figure out just exactly what they were.
From another universe? There had to be a good story there.
