((Will open this up for reactions once we get this started))

User ImageThe first rays of sun already showed over the horison, but the glowing disc seemed to rise unusually slowly today. The sun touched two male lions, apparently busy sizing each other up.

Jasiri appeared to be perfectly calm. He stood facing Nguvu, surrounded (at a safe distance) by many curious pride members. He rolled his shoulders and flexed his claws. Everything felt all right, and he was certain he was rested enough to put up a good fight. However, if the other Inselelo bested him he wouldn't hesitate to blame his recent fight... But hopefully he wouldn't have to.

It would be interesting to fight someone who wouldn't run from him for a change, and one that wouldn't kill him. The crowd wanted to see some blood, but it would be counterproductive if they maimed each other too badly.

"Age before beauty," he said, teasingly offering Nguvu the chance to make his first move. He wasn't sure if the other lion was older or not, but he had been here longer at any rate. Besides, half the fun was teasing your opponent to try to annoy them into making mistakes. It was a challenge to try to judge when to talk and when to stay quiet. Too much talking and he'd end up distracting himself...

Nguvu was nervous.

He was nervous because he knew that this could be the end of his reputation within the pride, for now, at least. He would much rather keep the reputation of a crocodile slayer than a loser.

He would accept though, if this new Inselelo was able to beat him, that it was his skill that had outweighed his at this moment. At least the pride would be safe with such strength in both males.

He smirked at Jasiri's taunt and stretched his legs a little.

"Alright, pretty boy."

Nguvu launched himself forward with his giant paw and claws out just a little. It was a duel after all, he had no intention to seriously hurt Jasiri.

His paw collided against the brightly coloured male with some force. Nguvu smiled and sprung back to c**k his head.

"I'm sure you won't want to get beaten by an old man." He rumbled. He wasn't that old at all, but just wanted to fuel Jasiri's fire.

Jasiri walked into that first blow with the intention of retaliating once Nguvu came close enough. Unfortunately he had misjudged the strength and angle of the other male's swipe. Nguvu's paw connected with his side but Jasiri's claws found only air. He growled, more out of frustration than out of pain. The small scratch on his flank wouldn't even leave a scar, and he didn't even bother looking at it. Now he knew what Nguvu could dish out... The other male was strong, and he'd have to be careful.

"First blood," he commented, "Well done."

He circled the other male, looking for an opening.

Nguvu smiled as he made contact with Jasiri. A good start. Perhaps now the other male knew a little of what he was in for, that Nguvu was certainly not a pushover and could deliver a punch.

He eyed up the fancy looking male, with his bright colours and intricate swirls. They contrasted Nguvu's simple pale pelt. He had nothing to be ashamed of, but he thought Jasiri's pretty coat was sure to attract some females. Nguvu... maybe not so much, especially if he lost.

He leapt side to side in a sort of dance, watching Jasiri's every move. He had just missed Nguvu, but that could be a blunder, not lack of skill, so the large lion remained careful and watched Jasiri closely. He leapt again at the other Inselelo, but was met frustratingly with thin air.

User ImageBuna tried to look as if she hadn't waited here since well before dawn. She was every bit as eager to see the two males try to rip each other to shreds as anyone in the pride. However, she didn't want to seem too eager. Someone might get the wrong idea! The stubborn female hadn't warmed to the Inselelo-concept, but she liked a good spectacle.

So she stood in the middle of the crowd, waiting for the two males to stop wasting time and start fighting already. It would be really interesting to see a fight up close. She had never bothered to watch the sparring going on at the Firekin outpost. Besides, this would be more like a real fight since they were allowed to use claws and teeth.

Jasiri kept his eyes on his opponent, and as Nguvu danced around he did too. He figured that if he faced the other lion at all times he'd make himself a smaller target. It worked for now at least. Nguvu zigged, he zagged, and he dodged the attack. But he wasn't satisfied with just that, so Jasiri turned to follow as Nguvu leapt past him.

He decided to seize the moment before the other lion would have a chance to get his act together again. Jasiri aimed a blow at Nguvu's hindquarters as he passed him. His claws were out, but with a moving target it was anyones guess if they'd actually do some damage or if Nguvu would just get a humiliating slap on the rear.

Sanele recognized brawls like these for what they were: Nothing more than a method to aggrandize the victor for as long as the huntresses had nothing better to chatter about. They wouldn't have made a point to draw in spectators if training was their lone intent. That being said, she would be one of the first to relay details to any preoccupied or disinterested lionesses — whether they wanted to know or not.

Along with keeping in-the-know, acquiring a superior viewing spot was one of Sanele's talents. Not a single paw was accidentally trampled on her way front and center. She arrived just in time to see Jasiri avoid the latest attack and swiftly took note of the damage he'd already sustained.

It would be premature to gamble on a winner now.

Jasiri's first blow caught Nguvu off guard, and for a moment he struggled to right himself. It was a decent shot too. It was certain that the colourful male would be no pushover. Once he had regained his balance he wrenched his paws into the earth as hard as he could, tensing his legs. To fall over in the middle of a fight would be very humiliating.

He let out a snarl, but with something of relief in it too. He was glad the other Inselelo was able to hold his own, it was certainly good news for the pride. Perhaps one day they would make a good team against a possible intruder.

Nguvu shook his pale mane and prepared himself to leap forward again after circling the spot for a few moments. He saw his opportunity and leap.

If his claws had hit anything at all, they would have merely scraped.

Jasiri couldn't decide if he should try to avoid Nguvu's next attack or dive in to retaliate when the other male leapt after him. His indecisiveness led to a halfhearted attack and some scrapes across his flank courtesy of Nguvu. He grunted and backed away a bit, trying to keep moving. Perhaps he should try to get in close and make a wrestling match out of this instead. So far they felt pretty evenly matched so it was hard to know who'd come out on top if he decided on that tactic.

Nguvu huffed under his breath. This new male wasn't backing down easily.

But then Nguvu thought back to how hard he had tried to prove himself to the pride. He had found it difficult. He had faced skepticism and been the target of Surtak's disdain and snarky comments since he had entered the pride, and he had a history here.

Jasiri was probably finding it equally as difficult, and was fuelled by that. Nguvu suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for him, as Jasiri's claws made light contact with his body he stopped and relaxed for a moment, looking at the colourful male.

He then tensed his body ready to aim for another blow. He had to remember that he still had things to prove, too.

Something had changed. Jasiri wasn't sure why, but Nguvo had hesitated for a moment, and just looked at him. Whatever the reason it gave him an opening, and he wasn't going to stand around wondering why. It was time to finish this, one way or the other. He seized the moment and attacked again.

Jasiri roared as he locked his front paws around the shoulders of the other Inselelo, hugging him closer and trying to bite what he could get his teeth on. The mane would get in the way of doing any serious damage, of course. He didn't know how long he could wrestle with Nguvu without tiring, but he knew it would decide who won this duel, one way or another.

Like most others, the mother/daughter pair had found a spot in the crowd to watch the excitement. And Chazama was most definitely excited! She'd enjoyed watching and sparring with the Firekin at the outpost, and was positively ecstatic that they were headed in that direction again; but, watching two of the pride's own males fight together? That was a whole new kind of excitement! If she could she'd probably be bouncing up and down and running here and there to get a better look, but thankfully for all those involved her mother was there to keep her grounded and still. Quite happily, Chazama watched as Jasiri and Nguvu began exchanging blows, wondering just who would come out on top!

Dina on the other paw was far more focused on the little details. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't interested in who would come out the victor, and already she was weighing the two males against each other. Both had pale manes, so the pride's old tradition of measuring strength wouldn't help her here. She supposed Nguvu had been here longer, and in theory had to defend his position for longer, but Dina was still uncertain about him. And for that matter, she was still just as uncertain about Jasiri. Her brows furrowed as she watched the pair dance back and forth, intently focused on their movements and judging them in silence.

Nguvu was taken aback when he felt Jasiri's paws around his shoulders. He could feel teeth clicking through his mane and sustained several bites to his ears. It seemed the male wanted to end things one way or another. The pale lions back legs tensed as he tried to regain his balance and his massive bulk managed to begin to overpower Jasiri.

He let out something between a grunt and a roar and hulked his massive body foward, trying to get at whatever part of the male he could. With a thud he managed to knock Jasiri to the ground and loomed over him with both a stare and a smile, placing a paw on his chest.

"Not bad."

As soon as Nguvu put his weight in the game Jasiri knew he had made a bad move. The other male was strong and bulky, and he would pribably have been better off trying to use his agility to wear him out. Ah, wasn't everything easier in hindsigh? He was forced to take a step backwards to try to keep his balance, and as soon as he did he knew he had lost. Nguvu took a chunk out of his ear and the sharp pain made it even harder to stay on his feet. His other hind leg was shaking, as he strained to try to delay the inevitable, but Nguvu pushed on and he fell to the ground.

He was sore and from the smell of it they were both bleeding. Most painful of all was the blow to his ego, however. The fight was over, and Nguvu was so civil about it.

"Good fight," he agreed, and tried not to sound grumpy about it. Yeah. This would probably not endear him to the ladies. He was splayed on his back like a helpless cub, trying not to show how humiliated he felt. "Err... thanks for the spar..."

Jasiri looked a little embarassed, and Nguvu couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

He knew all too well what it was like to want to fit in, to feel part of a family.

Nguvu never wanted to be swayed by his emotions, but he felt that it was something that was happening more and more with the passing of time. He let out a gentle sigh, and whilst he kept his harsh gaze on Jasiri, he made for a softer move.

His large bulk gently nudged the other male up, although he could not help but feel a little smug. He gave the bright male a smirk.

"'Til the next time, I suppose?" He bowed his head and bounded off, slightly injured - but happy. His head was held high. ((Finished))
