Text to Clerise Hey Rapunzel did you ever get a haircut? Text to Clerise I'm near this weird ice sculpture Text to Clerise I think it was supposed to be a division logo once but it's hard to say which one Lucky was, in fact, over by a ridiculous-looking ice sculpture that had probably once been a tree, or some scythes, or perhaps even King Arthur - it had since become something of a modern art spectacle. It certainly didn't stop him from helping it along with his own body heat as he poked and prodded at it. He looked happy - but he always looked happy, or pleasant at minimum. There were hints of strain to it though, so that it became less his persona and more of a mask, one that looked ill-fitting at the edges to anyone who cared to look close enough. He never did try to worry people with his problems... but he still had them, and this time they didn't seem to fade from memory so easily. Clerise was easy to spot with her bright red hair - and he waved at her from a distance.

"Hey, you," Clerise said upon arriving, and picked him up and squished him in a warm hug. "Bless your little heart, guy, how's my little science cuz?"

"You know me and parties," he joked. Mainly because parties did not normally involve him - not because he wasn't invited, he just didn't know quite what to do with himself if metal, wires, runes, or computers weren't involved. He could enjoy the company of close friends, but all his close friends brought a date. Except Clerise, apparently. He certainly didn't mind the company. "What about you? How is camp, how is counseling, how is life?" Lucky returned the hug in kind, some inches off the ground thanks to the height disparity. "It feels like forever since the last time we talked. Project deadlines and proposals this time of year..." Had he even left the lab in the last few weeks, before today? He couldn't remember. He forgot to do that a lot. "How long did I lock myself in the lab this time?"

"Yeah, I know, it's why I wanted to come check on you," she said, putting Lucky down gently. "Things are fine, ramping up for the summer, wearing the glasses more often than not." She nudged his shoulder playfully, and ruffled his hair with no small amount of affection.
"About two months, last I saw hide or hair of you that didn't come in the form of Mimsy or the two jerks you hang out with was near the end of October. Round Halloween, I guess?"
She pulled him towards the outer wall of the ballroom, to get away from the constant buzz of the crowd. "Tell me how you're doing. You look frayed around the edges, young man, don't think i can't tell. You think you're the only young Lifer with too many projects I've seen? Hah! Hah I say!"

"Sam came looking for results, so that's probably the next time I'll see you again next year knowing how these business deals go." Lucky followed along, leaning against the wall. The smile began fading, a little at a time, until it became a thin, straight line. It looked like whatever he wanted to say was apparently more difficult than describing some theoretical design to her in layman's terms. "Can you keep a secret?" And then, without waiting for an answer, he launched right into it, wringing his fingers together in lieu of having some puzzle to put together. "It's not the projects or anything like that, it's... there's... someone." "Really, I shouldn't even be talking about this, but..." He straightened his messy hair out again nervously. "You know Jack, right?"
