It wasn't everyday that Aatami made the trip into town, and even fewer days he managed to go into a building. Usually his nerves balled up on him, and caused him to flounder. As it was, today he was on a mission; a learning mission! Leaving his wagon parked outside, the young Eevee walked into the library with his head held high. A few days ago he had discovered that he could read as much as he wanted here, and even take books home, all for a small fee! He just needed to sign up for a card and he was good for a year. It was great!
Pushing up the sleeves of his dirty, over large sweater he climbed the ladder attached to the shelves and pulled out a tome. 101 ways to treat ringworm. That was useful, right? If he was going to take tests and be a real doctor, he was going to need that! Nodding, he tucked the large book to his chest and tried to step down when he saw another book, and another, and another! This library was huge!
Aatami bit his lip. How was he going to get all these to his cart...?

Poor Aatami. If only he had noticed that a girl dressed in hues of blue was watching him. The girl in question floated more than she walked, towards him. She tapped him on the shoulder, scooting up close behind him. She curled her tail around his neck. "Whatcha doing?" She asked. "Don't you think you have too many books? Huh?" She took one from his stack, opening it to the front page. She made a face, wrinkling her nose in distaste. "You really want to read all this... educational stuff?" She said the word like it was a curse. "You read books like my Daddy."
She was sure Grayson had a multitude of these boring things. "Why don't you read something fun?" She asked, offering 'if you give a mouse a cookie'. "Its funny. Much better than those. Hey, do you want help carrying these?"

Waahhh! It seemed as soon as he'd made contact with another step on the ladder, some girl decided to come up and investigate. Not that he minded, really, but...well, maybe he minded a little, since it was so nerve wracking, talking to strangers. He shivered when her tail touched his neck, and tried to shy away from it.
"Well, y-yes, I do, because..." Then she starting talking again, and he hushed up for a bit. "I'll read that, if you want me too, but to me these ARE fun. I like learning, and most of the 'fun' books I've read through already. These are more challenging, so I like them better." And the related to helping sick people, which to him, was ten times better than whatever would happen if you gave a mouse a cookie.
"If you want to help, that would be great. Thank you." Seeing as he was perched on his ladder, no where near moving for fear of falling.

"You are like Daddy," Tania decided, studying Aatami with a slight smile. She approved. "Daddy's a scientist," she added in explanation. She didn't mention that she was on her second set of parents: that didn't seem neccesary. "There's no way you read all the fun books," she said, with a shake of her head. "This is a small fun book. But there are bigger ones. They're probably challenging enough for you. I'm just learning to read myself!" The mew girl took a step back, smiling. This boy was like her, too, she decided. A Pokemon. But which? Daddy would know.
"You going to be a scientist too?" She asked. "If you are, I bet Daddy could help you. He's nice, when he's not stuck in his notes. He's not mean then, though. Just its hard to get him to do anything else!" She paused, nodding, "Sure. I'm a good helper."

"That's really cool. What kind of science does he work with? Gynetics? Chemistry?" He didn't know much about science, but a few of the branches truck out to him. Aatami shook his head, clutching onto the railing as he did so, his large tail fanning out behind him. "It's true though, well, at least all of the ones here." The way he said it eluded that the children's section was small, and the fiction smaller than that, but they were quite large. The boy just had a lot of time on his hands.
Passing off some of his stack to her, Aatami started to climb down the stairs again. "Not a scientist really. I would like to meet your Daddy, and see his notes, though, if he'd let me. Maybe he's found something I haven't, yet." Aatami smiled and stepped onto the ground level with a flush. "Sorry, I mean, I'm not really studying science to be studying science; I want to be a healer, or a doctor when I get bigger. Something to help my sister."

"He's a Pokemon scientist!" Tania wasn't sure what chemistry and genetics were, but surely Grayson had covered all of those. She was amazed when he continued to act as if the library had a small selection of children's books. She didn't think she would ever get through all of them! It would take a lifetime! "Hm. Maybe you should read some of Daddy's books. You haven't read all of those!"
"You can meet him some other time," she promised. "I bet he'd let you. If you let him ask you some questions. He likes doing that. He might have! Dadfy is very smart. Oooh, a healer? I don't know if I like healers. I've never met one before. Are they very useful?"

"Like the kind that can take Pokemon out of fossils?" That peaked his interest. He'd always wanted to figure out how they did that kind of thing, but a lot of the words in the books about it were too large for him to understand. Maybe he'd look into it more, one day. "Maybe one day I will, if you come back to the library, that is. You can do a lot of reading practice here, and learn to read these books too." It wasn't a very subtle hint for her to continue her studies, but then again, he couldn't stay subtle with learning!
"Healers and doctors," Aatami started, wobbling his way with his stack to a nearby table. "Are-" A library shhed him as she passed, causing him to hunker and lower his ears. In a quieter tone, he responded with, "they're the people you go to when you're hurt or sick and they make you better."

Tania hesitated for a long moment before shaking her head. "I don't think Daddy does that," she said, "but he does all sorts of other things. He studies how Pokemon live, and what they eat, and their abilities--he's made friends with legendaries even! A celebi I know of, and an arceus--and me," she added as an after thought. "Do you think Daddy would like if I practiced reading?" She asked, hopefully. She so wanted to make Grayson happy. She didn't want this family to end up like her last. "Would you help me?" She asked. "Please?"
"Oooh! Healers sound very useful. So if I get hurt, I can come to you, and you'll fix me?" She beamed. Sometimes bandaids didn't seem enough. This body seemed much more clumsy than her previous form. "Doctors must be very nice."

"So he's a field researcher, then." At least, that's what it sounded like to Aatami. That would be pretty cool job, he thought. He wouldn't have to socialize with many other people; just him and his job. In a way Aatami envied him. He was doing the same thing now, except the child wasn't getting paid. Though, her statement did make him turn to her with a little wary excitement. A legendary? That's what she was? He hadn't realized it at first, since he coloring was off, but maybe...Aatami flushed, and looked down at the books. "S-sure he would, but you should do it for yourself. Reading is fun, but only if you think it's fun, then it might not be....But, yes, I can help you."
He frowned and shook his head a little, ears still down. "Well, yes and no. Healers are very useful and you should go to one if you're hurt, but not me. I-I'm not a healer yet, so I can't do very much to help."

"Maybe," Tania said, considering. "I don't really know what he'd be called," she admitted. "I just know he's a Pokemon scientist. He has a lab where Karma and I stay. Oooh, Karma's my sister! She's a ditto!" She was oblivious to Aatami's interest, but added, just in case, "I'm a mew. You'll really help me?" She beamed at him. She took another book from his stack. "Helping me would make me very happy! And I can help you back, too! I can shift into anything you'd like!"
She paused, blinking. Huh. He wanted to be a healer, but he didn't trust his abilities as one. That wouldn't do! "Well, you should take your own advice. Silly, be a doctor for you. I bet you can fix up a scrape better than my Daddy can."

"A ditto and a mew? That's...really kind of..." Odd. He couldn't say it, though, or she might think him rude, so he added, "cool. It's a really cool combination. Do the two of you get along well, your sister and you, that is?" Aatami shuffled the books around, organizing them by size with the smallest on top so they would be easier to carry.
"Yeah, sure I can help you. We can get started today, if you'd like, but I can't stay as long today. Other days, when I come back, I can, though." Though, he wasn't as sure about this shifting business as he was about reading. What was she talking about?
"I don't know about that, but thank you. I'm trying to get there, but I'm just not good enough YET."

Tania was oblivious to Aatami's thoughts, and failed to catch the hesitation. "It is, isn't it?" She agreed. "I have a brother too, he's a minun. But I haven't seen him..." Since that had happened. "In a long time. We do! I play with Karma all the time. Im going to teach her to shift. She hasnt been able to since she found her star. We make things together and prank Daddy together. He never gets mad though." She made sure of that. She didn't want to lose this family too. "Do you get along with your sister?" She asked, hoping to move the conversation along, as well as her thoughts.
"Really?" It wasn't often that Tania found someone so kind. She smiled brightly. "That's fine. We can work other times too. I'll come here all the time. Maybe next time I can bring Karma!"

While it was good that she was happy with her sister, he had to wonder about the brother, after such a hesitation. Was he gone? Was he hurt, or dead? Okay, bring it back, Aatami. "Did it hurt your abilities to, the star? Or was it just Karma?" Now THAT was curious. The star hadn't changed neither Truffles nor himself, and he hadn't thought about how it might change others. "Ehheh, yeah, sometimes." He smile warmly, moving his stack of books back to his arms so they could find a more secluded spot, after seeing some of the looks from the patrons. "She's my twin, and she's...she's active. Always moving forward, and she's so reckless. I really worry about her, but she's going to do it anyway, so..." So, what? Did that mean he sucked as a brother? That put a damp on things. Nothing he said seemed to stop her in the end, just caused her to stop talking about it in front of him.
Well, that is why he was doing this. If he could be a doctor and a better healer, at least he could patch her up when things got bad. And, after a bit of research, he learned that Doctors were paid well! So he could fill her tummy and get her warm coats all winter, every winter, forever!
"That sounds...find to me..." He grunted, shuffling around a cart and finally settling in a secluded nook. "There. We can practice here, so it won't bother anyone else, and we can talk as much as we want." Rather, so his helping her to read wouldn't make anyone mad. That would just be horrible.

"At first it did. But I think I was just sad, really. My dad--my dad before my Daddy, he used to get mad at me for shifting. I never understood why. So when I found my star soon after finding my new Daddy, I couldn't shift as well. It still takes me longer to shift than it used to." She didn't elaborate, shaking her head. "I'm happier now," she added, smiling. "Daddy bought me this dress, and he's interested in my abilities so I can practice." She paused to listen to Aatami's thoughts on his sister, smiling. "She sounds fun!" She declared, grinning. Reckless and active? Just Tania's kind of person!
She sat next to him. "Are twins usually so different?" She asked, curiously. "I'Veri never met twins before, but you don't seem the fun reckless type. ...I'm sure you have potential to be fun, though!"

So it was connected to her moods, after all. It was kind of sad to hear about, but she seemed happy enough, so he didn't think it would have been a good idea to pressure her. "I think you should be a little cautious, though. Practice, yeah, but watch out; that sounds like a pretty big power to have, and it might get you hurt." Aatami nodded, so sure of it. Shifting and transforming; what if she did it too much, and of the wrong thing? If she practiced she'd be stronger and able to control it, though, so that's where the trick was.
Aatami blinked, and laughed, a little flush on his cheeks. "No, no I'm not like her at all, am I? I don't know about all twins, but we're pretty different. It makes it nicer thought. What she's got I don't, and what I've got, she doesn't."
