IC

To Our Sister Tahigwa,

A call to arms is being sounded amongst our sisters to prepare for the threat that is coming from the South, we are in need of our warriors both young and old and it would appear that your fortuitous move to Zena will aid us in this. One of our sisters, a grand amazon named Ptolemy moved to Zena not a year prior to live with her Zenan lover, if you could seek her out, speak with her on our behalf, and get her to return home to aid us in training the training of your prentice sisters we would be most thankful.

Last we knew she was staying just outside of Etine. Be advised that the village is one that is self sufficient, not a group that relies on outsiders, and as such many not be to keen on your arrival. I would say do your best to seek out our sister without relying too much on the locals for aid in finding her.

Tahigwa had just risen from bed when the letter was delivered. The messenger had been in such a rush that he basically threw the letter towards her, gave a half-bow, and dashed back down the mountain like some sort of frightened animal. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, gave a yawn, and read the letter over. Elder who? Etine? Ptolemy? Wow, boy, she was out of the loop, wasn't she? She sighed, stretched, and moved to assemble her things.

"Joln'ku, I'm leaving!" She called, nudging the Elder's door open. The old lady was sprawled out on her bed, chin deep in fluff and pillows, obviously incapable of hearing her guest's calling. Tahigwa gave a laugh, shook her head, and moved to the kitchen. There, she gathered just enough berries and dried meat for the journey, and stuffed it all in her satchel. Then, she left a note for Joln'ku to read when she woke up.

"Sister Joln'ku,

I apologize for not waking you to tell you that I had to leave. My Sisters have sent me a letter asking me to travel to Etine to retrieve a fellow Sister and ask her to go home to train the others for the upcoming war. I've taken a spare map, some berries, and some dried meat for my journey. I don't know when I will return, but I know that I intend to. Please don't wait up for me.

Love,

Tahigwa."

"Alright, better get going." She sighed, raising her hood over her head. She exited the mountain abode briskly and descended the stairs, before opening the map at the bottom. Etine, Etine, Etine... Okay, so... Travel southeast, then travel southwest from there, that sounded easy enough. She turned to check that she had everything in order, her bag, her cloak, and, most importantly, her swords, before racing off down the path. Hopefully she'd be home by supper! Joln'ku was a fabulous cook!

Outside of Etine, set away from the shut in village, on the top of a hill between two massive evergreens, was a small house. Therein lived a rather unlikely pair, only one of which really went to the village, the other one having very little to do with anyone else save for the man Ice Tribesman that lived with her. If one was willing enough and daring enough to climb the hills to get to the place it would look almost welcoming, there was smoke coming out of the chimney. The daring part being due to fact there were a pair of Raptrix outside of the house, one of them prowling around, the other snoozing just outside of the door. The two were a sure sign that those inside weren't looking for any visitors.

To say that Ptolemy wasn't all that friendly was an understatement but the way she saw it she hadn't moved across the known world for anyone but her mate. Other then him she couldn't care less, especially when it came to those in the village. She was a tough nut to crack but Elder Dabir could merely hope for the best when it came to Tahigwa and her chances to get through to the woman. The fact that Tahigwa was Alkidike wold help out, giving her a better chance then anyone else in the area.

There would be much for Tahigwa to deal with but such was the life of the messenger, one could only hope that the amazon wasn't tempted to shoot said messenger.

Tahigwa's heels skidded against the snow as she approached the village. The note had said something about not asking the residents for help, so it was best not to approach them, it was up to her to find this woman. She raised her hand, scratched the side of her head, and adjusted her pant leg with her free hand. Hm, where would she live if she had, somehow, fallen in love with an Earthling, and wanted to feel safe and at home? She stretched, turned, and smiled. A hilltop, two giant trees, a perfect hiding spot. Without a second thought, she ran towards it.

As she approached the trees, she couldn't help but become curious, the trees were so different from the ones back at home and in Tale. So climbable, so... She shook her head, NO. She was on a mission. ...But, she could climb them to scan her surroundings, couldn't she? She smirked and ascended the tree, loop holes were wonderful things, weren't they?

Her legs swung off of a heavy branch towards the top of the tree, her mind, for just a moment, a million miles away. Why couldn't Jauhar get snow? It was nice to look at, fun to throw, and equally as entertaining to play with. She rocked back a forth on the branch, before gazing down to the house below. Well, if she was right, Ptolemy would be sitting inside. She hopped down from the branch and went straight for the front door.

"Hey! Ptolemy!" She exclaimed, tapping the door with her sword. "You live here?"

There was a rumbling growl from the Raptrix that was resting at Tahigwa's feet, a warning sound before the chubby female pushed up to her feet. Her ears went back, her teeth barred, and her growls turned into snarls. It was more then obvious that she wasn't at all pleased with the invasion of her territory, especially in her condition. The female didn't even consider her next move for a moment, instead she snapped at Tahigwa, teeth attempting to sink into flesh. Her sounds of displeasure had done more then just sounded intimidating as well, it drew out her mate, a big male that put her size to shame.

He rushed over to where the two of them were standing, glared as well at who he saw as an intruder, teeth barred, looking as though he were contemplating an attack as well. Tahigwa had gotten too close to their home, their owners, his mate, and it was obvious that he didn't want to play nice with her. If anything he wanted to chase her off or, like what his mate had done, take a bite out of the intruder.

Just when it seemed as though both of them might come in for the kill the door opened a bit and a rather handsome Ice Tribesman looked out, starring at the girl standing there, down to the two very unhappy Raptrix, then sighed a bit, "You shouldn't be here." He told Tahigwa, snapping at the two Raptrix and instantly they were turning to him, ears turning forward, tails wagging, before they headed inside.

Tahigwa shrieked as she was bitten and hopped backwards, moving to grip her swords. However, as she did, the ice tribesman opened the door and addressed her. Her eyebrows furrowed.

"Nice animals, did you train them?" She seethed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Her hands went to her leg to inspect the wound she had been given, which only furthered her anger. Without a second thought, she drew her swords. "Okay, you know, I came to Zena to get away from pain, not be reintroduced to it. I'm here for some Sister who I've never met, I'm assuming she belongs to you now which is all fine and dandy, but she needs to get off her rump and come with me because some elder wants me to. NOW, if you don't want your house to become a battlefield, you'll let me do my job."

The man looked to her swords with a look that said he wasn't looking forward to what was coming, sighed heavily with exasperation, and seemed to be just waiting. Whatever he was waiting for, he didn't seem to enjoy very much.

Before long, the door kicked open and a very angry Alkidike woman looked down at Tahigwa with her bow drawn. "I don't care how important you think you are. I don't belong to anyone and I am NOT going with some sniveling brat with no manners." Her voice boomed through the area and sent the two rather large raptrix running to hide behind furniture where they could.

The husband seemed to have stayed in place while the door slammed open, but now was moving to the side with his arms crossed leaning against the door jamb. It looked as if this had happened before, and possibly even frequently, though how obstinate the visitor was seemed to vary with each experience.

"I am an ELDER of the Alkidike, and I have earned my right to peace. Your whining newborn carcass has not." She was not pleased to say the least. It would have been wise for whoever was in the line of fire to think long and hard about their next words, though some would find it hard or nearly impossible to do.

Tahigwa paid no mind to the slamming of the door, or the way that she was being spoken to. She kept her stance and remained firm.

"Right, right, and I'm the one sniveling like a scared animal." She grunted. "If you think your age has any significance to me, please, shove it right back where it came from. I've spent my entire life avoiding my tribe, I couldn't give a Radaku's behind about what they wanted me to do, however, there's a war coming and they want your help."

She raised her swords and stepped forward, menacingly.

"And I'll be damned if I allow some elder tell me about peace while we're all running around headless! I have a baby sister at home who can't even look at her own shadow without fear! DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME YOU NEED PEACE WHEN WE COULD ALL BE DEAD NEXT WEEK AT THE HANDS OF STRANGERS!"

The elder threw her head back and laughed at Tahigwa before replying. "Sniveling? It seems you're here too. And from the way you're dressed I would guess you've been here a while now also." She laughed again, the idea that she, Ptolemy, would be scared or sniveling was preposterous, especially from this cast off of Aisha. "And how many battles have you fought girl?" She shouted out to the pathetic thing in front of her, holding her bow steady. If Tahigwa was trying to look intimidating, it wasn't working; if anything it was making Ptolemy laugh at her more.

"I fought in wars before you were even a thought in Aisha's mind. You would dare speak to an elder of your people that way? You would dare tell me that I don't deserve my rest after years of fighting? You obviously have much to learn, and I will not be the one to teach you." Ptolemy nearly yelled to Tahigwa, her voice stern. It would seem that if Tahigwa wanted to have Ptolemy hear her out, she would need to try a different approach. The suffering of Tahigwa's sibling seemed to mean little to nothing to the elder.

The ice earthling mate of Ptolemy continued to lean against the door frame, nearly seeming to be bored, as if this used to happen a lot when they had first cut their ties to the women of the Islands.

Tahigwa wanted to shove her sword into Ptolemy's neck, and her expression wasn't doing a good job about hiding it. She sneered, spat, and kept her stance.

"I'm a Prentice, your highness, I can't battle." She seethed, rubbing the spit she had heaved further into the snow and dirt with her foot. "And, no, I don't speak to my elders this way. But, I will speak to someone who I consider beneath me this way."

Then, she took a breath and sheathed her swords, before sitting upon the ground. She dug her hands into the snow and quickly began assembling it into a miniature snowman, before giving Ptolemy a glance.
"Just let me know when you're ready to stop acting entitled and we can go." She quipped.

Ptolemy had had it. She spat on the floor and glared down at Tahigwa. "You come to my house - yelling. Demand that my mate bring me out as if I am an object that can be claimed, and demand that I "get off of my rump" and drop my life to go back to the Islands. And you DARE to call me "entitled"? Some sniveling prentice that has never seen battle. Some fool who dares to come to my home and demand that I do anything without first speaking - asking - or being any form of respectful?"

Ptolemy could have cared less that she was being summoned by the Islands to train prentices. If Tahigwa - as she so blatantly stated was a prentice - was any indication of what she was going to be facing back there, she wasn't going to have any part of the obvious decline in the etiquette of the children of Aisha. Without another word she slammed the door between Tahigwa and the couple and silence was the only sound that could be heard.

It looked like Tahigwa's sit down was the final straw with Ptolemy.

[Tahigwa should solo her reaction to the conversation.]

Tahigwa didn't bother to flinch as the door was slammed upon her, and nothing but a sigh came from her lips. She continued to fashion her snowman in repetitive motions, a technique she had acquired to calm herself down. It was clear that she wasn't doing something right with this elder, and the way their personalities clashed with each other wasn't helping. Tahigwa didn't like to be yelled at, Ptolemy didn't like Tahigwa's retorts, and that was all fine and reasonable. They both acted as if they were entitled to their stance, one to her peace, the other, her ability as a fighter, and the strength of their words matched in force. Neither would budge, neither would care, and not much would be done until one of them budged from their high tower.

While she made the middle ball of her creation rounder, her mind calmed enough for her to analyze what had gone on without her anger setting fire to her reason. Ptolemy only wanted peace, which was reasonable, Tahigwa liked to have her time alone, didn't everyone? But, from her stand point, time for rest and peace was over, and it was time to rise up and help her sisters defeat the Oba force that was swiftly coming towards them. She could understand Ptolemy's mentality, it was one often forced at her and beaten down on her.

"I am an elder, therefore you hold no significance to me, you are nothing but a baby. I can do whatever I please because I deserve it, now go away."

This is what truly angered her and made her want to slash at Ptolemy. Why had she become so thoughtless? Who told her she could abandon everyone when she was so sought after? Was this an issue of her own importance, or was she too high off her own ego to care for anyone else? Tahigwa pondered, as she added a stone to the middle of the snowman, how that tribesman stayed sane, with someone so wrapped up in themselves. Maybe she was different when she was alone with him? She shook her head, if she was this determined now, she wouldn't change for anyone.

Further she went into her thoughts, her mind struggling to understand just why a fellow sister would be so cruel. Didn't she care that her entire race was weak in defenses? Didn't she want to help in the war? She placed another stone for the nose and made indents for the eyes, before taking a breath.

"I don't understand why you hate us so much!" She called, not really expecting an answer. "It's not like we tried to kill you or anything! Plus, I'm only here because I was asked, not because I wanted to. If you just go home and train a few worthless Prentices, as you've equated them, my elders will leave you alone. That's usually what I do, go along with the stupidity, then run off. It's really that simple."

With her creation complete and her body at ease, she tilted her head up to look towards the sky, and cracked a smile.
"But, you really don't seem to care about anyone but yourself." She said. "So, I'm not sure why they would even want you back. Maybe they still like you or think you're important? Isn't that something you should consider?"

Nothing but silence greeted Tahigwa's yelling into the cold air. It seemed that yelling and shouting wasn't going to do anything to help the situation. And neither was Tahigwa's thoughts that she had done nothing wrong. The house she sat in front of seemed silent enough; there wasn't any yelling, there wasn't any fighting, Tahigwa couldn't even hear if there was any talking inside. It was hard to tell if this was because there wasn't actually anything going on inside, or if the walls were just too padded to be heard from outside.

It seemed like quite a while before anything happened where Tahigwa was. And when it did happen, it was barely noticeable. There was a soft sound coming from inside, and then again silence. A small crunching noise came from the back of the house, and before anything visible could even be seen, Tahigwa was joined by a small, very small girl. She couldn't have been older than 4, and was bundled up tight in snow clothes. She began playing in the snow, not making eye contact with Tahigwa. The girl had black bug eyes and yellow skin, though her hair was soft and loose, a dark blue color, and there seemed to be no antennae on her head. "You're loud." She played in the snow some more. "And rude."

Tahigwa was surprised to see the Youngling, but a soft smile soon fell into place. Aw, they had a daughter! She was so cute in her little snow outfit! Her eyes lingered on the girl's hair and had to hold herself back from asking to braid it. She was just so pretty!

"I know, I've always been this way." She said, moving one of her dreads away from her face. "But, I can apologize to you, sweetheart, not your mother. You're too small to understand how elders oppress you and make you feel inadequate. Hold onto your childhood for dear life, if you can."

She inched herself closer to the girl and began making another small snowman, before peering up at her again.
"By the way, your hair is gorgeous." She said, giving a soft chuckle. "I'm jealous."

The little girl pinched her lips closed, packing more snow. It seemed that she didn't know the words Tahigwa was using, but tried to make sense of it anyways. "Mama's an elder." She packed more snow. "But you can't put everyone together. They don't fit the same way." She mushed the ball of snow together like she was trying to put all people into the same place in her mind and it wasn't working. "Mama's nice. And Papa too."

She tugged on Tahigwa's dread, "You're hair's like Mama's. Mama has pretty hair, too." It was a compliment and something that the girl meant.

The girl wasn't much for smiling. She seemed pretty serious and pondering, trying to make sense of the world around her. "Why are you so loud? Mama says it's not nice to yell. It helps people like you if you talk and try to listen." She shrugged her shoulders, still focusing on the ball in front of her. "That's what Mama taught me. She thinks that people don't like us because we're different. She makes everyone go away so they don't yell at us."
