Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon and Yoshihiro Togashi's Yuu Yuu Hakusho aired around the same time and were competitors for populatrity in Japan. When a survey of favorite characters was conducted, nearly all top 100 slots were from one of the two animes.

Yoshihiro went on to produce the manga HunterxHunter and used few or no assitants save for one to add screentone: Naoko Takeuchi. The two later married and had children, Naoko assisting her husband more and more and him taking longer and longer hiatuses from the manga due to a hand injury until he appologized for the artwork to his fans and promised to start over.

HunterxHunter is still going (the manga and anime are at approximately the same point in continuity now) with Naoko still helping.

Anyone think Naoko had any influence on the plot or characters?

No doubt. My husband and I have teamed up on manga before, plus we have countless that we work on solo. We're always giving feedback on each other's art and story lines, and bouncing ideas off each other. How much they affect each other's manga, there's probably no real way to measure.
