User ImageCharacter Bio
■ Character Name: Boneca Djangles
■ Nickname: Bonni
■ Aliases: -
■ Monster Parent: Sr. Boo Djangles the Dancing Calaca and a Haitian Voodoo Priestess
■ Monster Species Type: Calaca
■ Gender: Female
■ Age: 15
■ Birthday: 1 November
■ Place of Birth: On a sea route between Haiti and Mexico
■ Residence: Horror High
■ (One) Power: As a Calaca, she is meant to be a caller of souls, with the power to draw spirits to the locations of her choice, and to instill the compulsion to travel to the locations of her choice in those whose spirits are still contained within bodies. Well. Ideally. Her Calaca father has assured her that her power will develop as she matures, but right now, her targets tend to lose the impulse a few minutes into her mental instruction, unless she's concentrating really hard. She finds it easier to direct her concentration by stabbing a pin into the heart of her little sackdoll and moving it like a joystick as she visualises her target...just like her Voodoo Priestess mother taught her. Sort of. Her power doesn't work at all on beings without souls.
■ Personality:

Joyous - Above all, Bonni, like a true Calaca, strives to be joyful and bring joy. Bringing that outlook into every aspect of her life, she tries to find the positive in all things, and when bad feelings inevitably arise at times, she wills them to pass as quickly as possible. She has a healthy sense of humour, honed by her time with her father, and a sharp wit that can be...bone-dry. Her laugh sounds a little like the tinkling rattle of bones, and she laughs often. Puns, especially, really set her off... Light on her feet, she often dances through the halls with the steps her father taught her, and others besides, a lithe melody on her lips.
Fiery - She's inherited a sizeable temper from her mother, apt to go off in the face of any perceived injustice, wherein a torrent of Spanish epiteths will pour out of her mouth unto the head of the poor offender. Her instinct is to follow that up with punches and pins - but it's lucky that she's learnt to restrain herself, as perceived injustices are not always real injustices, and often she's had to go up to the victim and sheepishly apologise when she learns the truth after storming off in a huff. But to her credit, she's always ready to admit it when she's wrong, and eager to make amends.
Inquisitive - Ever since she was young, her parents have explained to her everything she's asked about as she watched their daily work. Her desire to find out how things worked thus consistently indulged, she brings the same sense of wonder and curiosity to everything new she encounters...for better or worse. She doesn't take no for an answer easily, and goes to lengths to acquire the information she's interested in - a trait that has sometimes landed her in more trouble than it's worth when she's gone investigating secrets not meant for her knowledge.
Dutiful - She has always been awed and impressed by the grave responsibilities her parents hold, and thus takes duty extremely seriously, aspiring to be like them someday. No matter what sort of task she is assigned, she will always attempt to execute it to the best of her ability. Failure is devastating, and despite her personal resolve to remain positive through all things, she finds it especially hard to let go of the feeling of disappointment in herself.
Self-doubting - And the flipside of her respect for her parents' capabilities is the shadow of self-doubt. Bonni harbours secret feelings of inadequacy, fearing that she will never live up to their greatness, aggravated especially by her inability to control her calaca powers well. She tries to bury such thoughts under more productive emotions, but when she is set on a task that is proving difficult to accomplish, the doubts invariably creep back in, and she finds herself second-guessing her actions and becoming easily exasperated with her mistakes. Sometimes it is enough to make her throw her work down in despair...but she will always return to try her best again after collecting herself.

Relationships
■ Relationship with Family: Although her parents aren't together anymore (and never were save a week of passion), Bonni has never found herself wanting for love - whichever parent she is staying with at the time always has plenty of affection to bestow.
■ Key Family / Relatives:

Father: Sr. Jangles is an institution of a Calaca, always on his feet with a smile. Bonni feels honoured to be his child, and is determined to live up to his name when she finally assumes her duty. Father and daughter get along famously, Sr. Jangles' understanding bent coming in handy when Bonni goes off in one of her ill-tempered jags - he's not beyond indulging his only daughter's moods, and is always loving when she returns to reconcile. He often brings Bonni along for work, demystifying and explaining all aspects of his job in preparation for her professional future.
Mother: Bonni feels a deep kinship with the mother whose personality she has inherited much of. She is completely fascinated by her mother's religion and the powers she practises of it: unsure of what would happen if a Calaca was to practice voodoo, her mother has cautioned her off it to date, save some basic precepts to sharpen her mind, which she had taken swimmingly to. She harbours a sort of secret guilt over how different they are from their mother, and how they can never truly belong by her side, exacerbated by how she practices her father's craft, but not her mother's.
Twin Brother: Not always having stayed with the same parent at the same time, they're quite independent of each other. (I don't want to step on any toes since he actually has an owner, so I'm leaving this totally ambigious!)

Biography
■ History: On a relaxing holiday to Haiti, Sr. Boo Djangles, the Dancing Calaca, met and fell in love with a Haitian priestess. For all of a week, anyway. After a fiery romance, he returned to Mexico. Unbeknownst to the skeleton, the voodoo ways of the lovely lady ended up ensuring fruit of their union, and nine months later, she was on a boat to Mexico, seeking her erstwhile lover with a swollen belly. She didn't make it to land before the twins decided to arrive, somewhere on the seas between Haiti and Mexico, right on Día de los Inocentes, the splitting skeletal image of their father. Sr. Djangles was surprised to see his old flame stomp up to him with babe in either arm some days past el Día de Muertos, to say the least. They never did properly reconcile, the differences between them too vast for more than a week's dalliance: one had duties in Mexico, the other in Haiti. One was undead, the other alive. But they both loved their children and tried to do as right by them as they could manage, swapping off for months at a go to ensure neither parent would be a stranger. It was obvious from birth and growth that the twins were essentially little different from the other Calacas, and thus were educated in such ways by their father, while their mother tended towards home-schooling of the more mundane subjects, because you never know about job security in the current economic climate. When they reached high school age, however, their parents decided by mutual conference that it was time for them to acquire the proper education all monsters ought...in Horror High.
■ Personal Goals: To enjoy herself throughout high school! She also harbours a vague desire to bring her parents together, but has learnt other the years that this is highly improbable. ...Also, she hopes to someday persuade her mother into teaching her the vodoun ways.
■ Professional Goals: To learn to better control her Calaca powers and grow up to take up her duty as a Calaca
