The day started out clear, crisp and cool. A fresh blanket of snow had fallen the night before, though it wasn't enough to stop people from being out and about this fine day. Everything was going like every other day; as people were preparing to travel, hunt or take care of their families there was a sudden rumbling in the distance. Everyone seemed to pause, heads turning in the direction of the sound. It sounded like an avalanche off in the distance, and once the rumbling had stopped people continued on with their own business.

Moments later there was a frantic knock at Gyuri's door. Voices were muttering rather loudly from the other side, panic tinging them. It was hard to place how many voices were there, was it two? Three? It was hard to tell as they kept talking over each other. Finally one voice became louder,

"Sir? SIR? Are you in there? Please can you open up the door? We need your help!" The knock was turning into a pounding, as if they may beat the door open in their need to get in.

The rumbling sound of shifting snow in the distance caused Gyuri to look up from what he was doing, the somewhat boring task of watching freshly dyed skins dry, before he shrugged and returned to what he was doing. He was given this boring task by his mother who wanted a chance to talk with his father one on one, something that made him a bit nervous. He could only imagine what they were going to talk about and how it was going to go. No well, that much he was certain of. He reached out to give one of the skins a little poke, the tip of his finger coming back with some still damp orange dye staining it. Not ready yet it would appear. He'd give it more time though he was certain in that time that he might very well die of boredom.

A moment later there was a pounding on the door that had him wondering what was going on. He pushed to his feet, abandoning his current task, and walked over to the door, easily closing the distance between where he'd been sitting and the door. He was just reaching it when he heard someone calling through it, yelling 'Sir' making him wonder if they were looking for his father? They seemed a bit on the frantic side, asking for him to open the door, asking for him to help them, and a moment later he was pulling the door open, curious as to what was going on. He could only hope that it wasn't the sort of emergency that would call for a hunter like his father, the man was away and had taken his spear with him. If it was anything else though he would be more then happy to help, especially since they seemed so in need from the tone in their voices and the looks on their faces.

At least that was what he was thinking, he said nothing as per usual for him, instead waiting to see what it was that was going on, what they needed, and if it was in fact something that he would be able to help them with. Given that he was the only one home he really hoped that he would be able to help.

When the door opened it revealed to have three people standing there, all looked rather anxious and worried. As soon as the door opened all three began to talk at once. A jumble of words and emotions flooded out in a rather overwhelming display, when finally the young woman of the group raised her voice loud enough to ask for everyone to be quiet. The two others, a young boy and a another woman went quiet at her request, but trembled as if they were having a hard time keeping that way.

"Thank goodness you're home, " The woman began again, her eyes shining as if she had recently been crying. "We desperately need your help, there was an avalanche to the north and we fear that a traveling family has been caught in it. We didn't know who else to turn to when young Dewari here explained seeing you. Please, you need to help us!" The young woman gushed looking up at the hulk of a man and feeling quite confident that he would know how to help them.

Thank goodness 'he' was home? They were actually looking for him and not his father? That was a bit of a surprise, he hadn't expected that anyone would to come calling looking for him especially not in an emergency situation. Really the only one that came calling for him was Eira and that was only because he worked for her. This was a new sort of situation and one that he couldn't help but to appreciate, that someone would come looking for him when need arose. He starred for a moment, his mismatched eyes going a little wide, as they started to explain exactly what was going on. He'd heard the avalanche but hadn't really thought much about it, hadn't even blinked, the snow was shifting all the time in Zena, but it would appear that someone was actually caught up in it this time? Not just anyone but a family of travelers? They wouldn't really know how to deal with such a situation, would they? Those born in the snowy lands knew how to deal with an avalanche but travelers might not. What if someone was hurt? What if they panicked? Nothing good would come of it.

When the young woman pleaded with him once more he gave a nod of his head, hurrying to grab up his cloak and boots, pulling both of them on, before he stepped outside, "Lead the way." He said, pulling the door shut behind him. Gyuri felt a little bad about abandoning the task that he had been assigned by his parents but this was more important, they would understand. He couldn't just stand by and do nothing when people were in danger. He wanted to help them! Once the travelers were dug out then he would return him and get back the tedium that he had been left in charge of. Maybe his parents wouldn't even be back then? Get out, help some people, get back, that was the plan.

The eldest woman looked positively relieved when Gyuri when to put his cloak and boots on, even more so when he spoke for them to lead the way. The young boy looked up at Gyuri with the gaze a young boy may have looking at a hero. The last woman who had yet to speak looked at Gyuri as if she was skeptic, but she didn't say anything as they began to move out.

"I am Deidri, this is my sister Kewali and my brother Dewari." Deidri introduced herself as they began to move out. Luckily it looked as if the weather wasn't going to turn for the worse but the travel, "We had been watching from our farm when the avalanche happened," Deidri continued as they walked hurriedly along. "There was a family coming up the mountain when the avalanche just...suddenly started."

"Yeah! There was this weird sound! Like...like BOOOM! Then suddenly all the snow started moving! WHOOSH." The young boy interrupted looking up at Gyuri obviously idolizing him.

Gyuri looked between the three of them as Deidri introduced them, giving each a smile and a nod, before he said simply, "I'm Gyuri." Siblings then? That was nice he thought to himself, finding the idea of having a sibling as one that he had always liked the idea of. A shame that he hadn't gotten one himself but perhaps one day he might get a son or daughter he thought to himself wistfully. It was a thought he shoved aside though, knowing full well that he had more important things to do then be envious of the siblings.

Glancing between Deidri and Dewari he took in what htey were saying about the avalanche, that there was a weird booming sound first followed by the snow moving in on where they were. He gave a thoughtful sound, wondering what the booming sound might have been, but given that he hadn't even gotten to where the avalanche had occurred he supposed that it would be silly to even try to guess now. Still, he couldn't help but to question the booming part of it.

"Hope they are alright." He murmured, glancing at the boy that was starring up at him, then looked a little embarrassed. What was the boy looking at? He gave the boy a lopsided smile and then said, "Ahh... they will be alright." He said quickly, not wanting to worry the boy. Best to be optimistic at the moment and do all that they could for those who were currently trapped.

Kewali had yet to say anything, in fact she was idolizing Gyuri in... a much different fashion, her face blushing as she could catch his gaze before she was quickly look away. It was easy enough to tell she was at that awkward age where she wanted to gush about her feelings but was too shy to do so. Still as they moved it was primarily Deidri and Dewari who filled the silence.

"I hope they are well, it just pains me to think that they are trapped under all that snow." The older sister admitted trying not to think about how they could be already too late, but she was hoping with Gyuri's help that they would be able to at least rescue a few of them.

"It was... just so strange though... it was as if the Indiwago had come to life... the earth just shook..." She mused referencing to the old Zena legend that was told as bed time stories to young children to scare them. There hadn't been any unusual snow fall lately, but perhaps the earth just shifted? But as they trudged through the snow and got closer and closer to their destination it was easy to see where the avalanche had taken place. Tree's were leaning precariously in the direction of the force the avalanche fell from.

Now that they were there: now what? All three pairs of eyes turned to Gyuri as if expecting him to take charge and take the lead.

Gyuri couldn't help but to nod, certain that the people, especially if they were foreigners, must be scared. He didn't want for them to be trapped under the snow for any longer then they had to be. He could only hope that they were alright and could hold out until the group of them were able to dig them out. The problem being was that there was a lot of snow and there only a few of them. If only they had a bigger group he thought to himself as they moved to where the avalanche had occured.

At them mention of how strange it was that the snow had even collapsed in such a manner, that it was as though Indiwago had been the cause of the earth shaking the snow loose. He wasn't sure though, would the Indiwago do such a thing? Would it bury strangers in the snow? Given that it was often used to scare little kids it might very well be a dangerous beast... still, he should worry less about what had happened and how the snow fell, huh? Instead he should focus on how they could dig them out of there. He crossed his arms over his chest, studying the scene for a moment, taking in the way that the trees were leaning in, then glanced over at the trio of siblings.

Blinking a couple times he realized that the three of them were starring at them and he felt himself flushing a little bit, "Ahhh..." Why were they all looking at him? Were they waiting for him to take charge? Oh man... didn't they know that he wasn't all that good at this sort of thing? He turned back to looking at the scene that was laid out before them before he finally said, "Did you see where they were before it happened?" He asked of them, feeling that they needed to be quick about this. If they were under the snow too long something might happen! He wanted to start digging as quickly as possible he thought to himself as he started toward the trees while waiting for any information the three of them might be able to provide.

At the question the youngest jumped to attention right away, the young lad nodding his head vigorously before he pointed. Though being a kid, his pointing lasted only a moment or two before it wavered and he seemed to second guess himself.

"There....wait..no...it was...more like THERE!" Dewari began pointing in a few places and it was obvious he had no real concrete idea where they had been. Soon Kewali sighed and shook her head reaching out an arm to make her sibling stop.

"Don't confuse him, this is very serious Dewari, if we can't find them soon they may die. You understand?" She chastised him, before he dropped his arm looking like he had been hit instead of spoken to. "I remember that tree," Kewali spoke pointing to the one that was now listing dangerously to the left and it was hard to tell if it had moved or just leaned over due to the avalanche. "I remember they were above it before the snow fell."

The eldest nodded her head, she also recalled something similar. "It's a good a place to start, what should we do Gyuri?"

Gyuri's mismatched eyes got a bit wide when Dewari started to 'help' him out, telling him where the people had been... which seemed to be all over the place if what the boy was saying were true. He really hoped that the group hadn't been so spread out, it would leave them struggling to find them all in time. Still, he wouldn't stop until all of them had been found no matter what condition they might be in. He couldn't see a bunch of foreigners being all that pleased over the idea of leaving one of their family members buried under Zena's snow. Much to his relief though Kewali stepped in, quieting her brother, and told him not to confuse Gyuri. It was a statement that he was more then grateful for since it had been starting to shake him up a bit inside.

When the boy looked a bit put out but her chastising he couldn't help but to reach out to him, patting him on the head, before he turned to look over at Kewali as she told him that she remembered the tree. He turned to look at it, then took it all in, the way that the tree was leaning now after the snow had plowed into it, where the woman felt that they had been, then gave a nod, "They would have gotten pushed." He murmured, the snow, if it had been moving fast enough to tilt the tree, would have more easily pushed people along being that surely they wouldn't be right where they'd been seen before hand.

Turning to look at them he took in a deep breath, held it a moment, before letting it out slowly. So much talking... he couldn't help but to feel a bit dizzy, something that was compounded by them asking him so many questions, but he wanted to help so he meant to do his best. Turning back he said, "We need to be quiet, to listen for any sounds. We will search in that area first." He pointed to where he felt that the snow may have pushed the group before swallowing them up. After he'd given the orders he couldn't help but to lift one hand to his clutch slightly at his chest, hoping against hope that he had made the right call. A part of him was terrified that he hadn't, but he'd given the orders and it was best that they followed through now, right? Starting forward he fell quiet, making sure to make each step carefully, scanning for any sign of the people, listening for any sound they might make, and so on.

All three of them nodded their heads in unison following Gyuri's lead without question. They obviously trusted his judgement and worked in silence as told. Though Dewari seemed to have a hard time remaining silent, getting excited when he would think he found something worth mentioning to just have to go silent because it would turn out to be just a branch or a large boulder.

It would feel like a hopeless search until Kewali gave a quick shout of alarm. A hand had been sticking out of the snow, it looked as if the person was still alive, trying to dig their way out if limply. Hurrying over her younger brother went to help her dig the person out of the snow. Meanwhile Deidri who had been moving over to help stopped in her tracks. She could of sworn...half turning she looked up at the face of the mountain, what had been that sound?

About to return to her movements she stopped again as large pieces of snow rolled past her. Blinking in surprise she turned again only to see something large...and white barreling its way towards them. No...there was more than one....it was a herd of mammu. A large herd! Perhaps it was these creatures stampeding that had caused the avalanche to occur. Never before had she seen these creatures gather in such a number. There had to be at least twelve of them!

"Gyuri! Mammu!! ITS A STAMPEDE!" She screamed as she tried to pick up her pacing.

PostPosted: Sun Feb 23, 2014 10:27 pm

Gyuri was moving slowly and deliberately across the snow, head tilted to one side, listening for any sounds that might be heard below the snow. The sounds of someone moving, the sound of someone calling for help, the sound of someone trying to dig themselves out, anything of that sort. He was moving along at that slow, careful pace, the whole of his attention on the snow... when Kewali suddenly called out to him. It was something that caused him to jump, a little startled by the sudden noise. Turning toward her he tried to figure out what was going on... and spotted the arm that was sticking up through the snow.

Eyes going rather wide Gyuri hurried over toward where they were digging, doing what he could to help in trying to dig out whoever it was that was out of the snow. One down, more to go he through to himself, glad that they had at least the luck to find one of them. Person this person, if still conscious, could tell them where the others were when the avalanche hit? It was his hopeful thought... until suddenly the ground seemed to shake under them. For a moment he found himself wondering if it was the a fore mentioned creature behind it, the Indiwago, maybe the girl was right about what was causing the shaking?!

A moment later though that cause for alarm was replaced with another, more realistic one, that of a bunch of Mammu heading their way in a group that was larger then he'd seen before. He looked from side to side, then up at the trees that they were near to, "Stick close to the trees!" He said to them, hoping that the trees would force the Mammu to part around them... the problem being that they could still very well trample those still under the snow. After a moment of frantic thought an idea came to him. Jumping up at the tree he caught hold of one of the thicker, lower branches, using his considerable weight and strength to break it off.

Hefting up his makeshift club he charged toward the Mammu, swinging it at them, making all the noise he could in hopes of forcing them to change course at least a little bit. If he could get them to veer off to one side or the other maybe they would chance stomping on those under the snow?

The mammu were being led by one particular matriarch. It was easy to pick her out as she was by far the biggest and oldest of the bunch. But even age wasn't going to slow this one down as she led her family across the snowy hill. The younger ones were in the back as the adults were driving the snow out in front of them clearing a path. There was a distinct danger of them accidentally trampling the people who were buried under the snow if they couldn't be diverted.

Giving a sound of alarm the matriarch spotted Gyuri and his weapon first, but stopping wasn't an option going down hill at their speed. Trying to slow its large body there was then the problem of the others behind her. The built up momentum was a powerful force and even with the attempt to divert their current direction it was a a narrow margin that allowed them to skid past. They held no interest in fighting Gyrui, in fact the matriarch bellowed a sound from her trunk and rounded about allowing her family to run past. Eyeing Gyuri a moment before she began to trudge back up the hill before standing her ground.

A strange creature was coming down from where the mammu had come, this one was a rare sight to be seen, much larger than a raptrix its body was like that of a large cat, but covered in a dense layer of fur it had around its head and neck to protect its face from the biting winds and snow. Large teeth came from its muzzle and its rather furry paws hid long razor sharp claws. Opening its mouth it gave a strange rolling roar that seemed too high in pitch for an animal its size.

The three siblings were still in the midst of digging the one survivor out of the snow, but they were lucky in discovering two more close to the first.

[The creature being introduced is known as "Elensar Curufinwe" or Ghost of the Mountain. An extremely rare beast that has hardly even been seen by humans. It tends to avoid humans though occasionally will come across their paths while hunting. A lone hunter, very little is known about them.

The creature is intent on its hunt, though it is unnerved by Gyuri's presence the matriarch mammu will engage with the beast to ensure its herds safety, but being old and tired will die if left to fight alone. It is up to Gyuri to decide if he should help drive the creature away or leave them to their battle to continue rescuing the people he came to save. The three siblings are still working on digging people out of the snow. But run a high risk of being trampled by mammu if the herd decides to circle back to help their matriarch.]

PostPosted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 8:10 pm

The way that the Mammu turned to keep from running him over, though just barely, was enough to leave the giant of a man breathless. His arm went slack and he dropped his stick, feeling quite chilled for a moment, "Oh... geez..." That was terrifying! Perhaps this meant that he'd be able to get back to the far more important digging? He turned to glance over at the others, watching as the three siblings set to continued their work. He had to get over there, had to get back to helping to dig up those who were buried under the snow, they couldn't stay under there forever after all. Soon enough the crushing cold was going to claim them.

He was on his way back, snow crunching under his feet as he approached them. He was almost within arm's reach when he heard the strange roar, one that he had only heard once in his life and even then it wasn't made by a creature he'd actually seen. Turning slowly he found himself starring at the Ghost of the Mountain, something that his father had talked about a lot, a beast that he said had a hide that many claimed to be priceless due to its rarity. Instantly his hand was tightening on the stick he held, feeling the draw that was trying to best the beast so that he could have it's precious hide. Surely if he brought that home then his father would be more amiable toward... well, all of the issues that were going to come to light eventually, all of which he was sure to disapprove of.

The giant of a man had only take one step toward the beast when he felt the ground shifting once more, indicating that the large group of Mammu were still nearby and still restless. He wanted the Ghost's hide but he couldn't go after it, not yet, not until the three siblings and those they wanted to rescue were out of the way. If he didn't get them out of the way first then they were in danger of being trampled. Giving a muttered curse he turned around and hurried over to them, "We need to get you all out of the way. Fast. Things are going to get messy." He said in a low, rushed tone. The fight between the Ghost and the Mammu Matriarch was bound to start soon and if she got in trouble other members of her herd were sure to join in. Mammu charging everywhere was bad enough but if the Ghost decided to go after smaller, easier prey, then everyone he was trying to help would be in danger as well!

He had to get those stuck in the snow free, then the siblings could take them to safety. He gave a nod as he set to digging, "We will get them out. You will take them to my place to hide." He said as he dug as fast as his hands and the cold snow would allow. He'd get them free and then face the Ghost. He'd take it down if at all possible and take its pelt for his own.

As if Gyrui's hunch had been correct things were going from bad to worse. The Elensar was hissing, trying to jump forward and claw at the mammu that was in its path. It wasn't after her after all, but some of the younger calfs that would be much easier to get down. The elder matriarch was trying its best to keep the beast at bay, trumpeting and using its large though worn tusks to keep it at a safe distance.

The three siblings had large eyes as they looked to Gyuri, after all suddenly they were having to fear for their lives not just the ones they were trying to rescue. One of them was already half way out of the snow, the eldest using what strength she had to try and drag the remainder of his body out of the snow. Dewari was doing his best to try and help his sister, whilst Deidri seemed to have located the body of another person.

"Gyuri! Please help me!" She called as she frantically dug through the snow. The herd of mammu were antsy… watching their leader fight off the beast and they looked unsure wither they should go and help or not. The fact that they continued to pace back and forth wasn't reassuring...

The battle between the matriarch and the beast wasn't going well, already bright red was splattered on the white snow. Her trunk was badly clawed as well the space on her face. Keeping her trunk close to herself it looked injured enough she didn't want to risk further damage, but her tusks seemed easy to dodge...

[Able to locate all the bodies the three siblings are able to flee the situation if slowly. Encumbered by the people they rescued they are exposed to the possibility of either being attacked or trampled. The matriarch's strength is failing her and it is only a matter of time before the beast will be preoccupied with your party.]
