"Ohh, dear, my lord... this... this will not do at all."

Jordun was barely two steps out of the house that had put him up for the night when he was greeted by those quavering words. "What is the matter, Dawson?" Concern began to rise inside him, until Dawson pointed to an ugly dent beaten into the front of the carriage, paint chipped away. "Ah, I see. What happened?" His voice was merely curious, but he could see the coachmaster quailing before him, so used to the quick temper of Lord Kinross that he didn't' quite know how to react to Jordun's more easy-going manner.

"The... the horses, my lord. The stableboys backed her in too quick and she wouldn't have it. I apologize, my lord. If you buy allow us a few hours, we will try to repair it..."

Jordun put up a hand to stop the man. "Do what you can then," he said. "There is no harm done. I am in no hurry. Meanwhile, I will enjoy what I can of Oldcastle. I do not believe we often stop here for more than a night." As Dawson breathed an almost audible sigh of relief and dashed back to the carriage, Jordun reached out to Idriss. I suppose this is where riding you would be more convenient, he thought, and the doe replied with an eagerness that conveyed her less-than-stellar opinion of horses. They were such base, uneducated creatures, she thought, and silly if they had to throw a fuss about being backed up too quickly.

Of course, Idriss had never thrown a tantrum before in her life, so eager was she to delight in everything around her. A tantrum, after all, suggested a fundamental displeasure that was quite out of her nature. The little doe's head peered around the side of the carriage, where she had been investigated the horses' handiwork, and came scampering up to her Chosen with a bleat of delight. What an adventure they could have, without those pandering servants and silly horses following alongside! She nosed Jordun eagerly and turned, bouncing off down the road.

"Well, just a minute, Driss, we can't very well just wander off without any money..." But the doe had already nosed her way into the doorway of a shop. He hurried after her, managing to grab her a second before she invited herself inside. "My, but I do apologize!" He said hastily, before giving himself any time to look around.

It was a normal day at work for Nicholas. He had gotten another few commissions from his usual customers, another few chairs for their table, and a small end table to go with, not a big deal really. But here he was, working hard, muscles flexing as he sheered off another layer of the wood, trying to get the pure beauty of it to come out before he would do anything else to it. Perhaps it should come to no surprise that he was working shirtless in the cool weather, the movement of his body generating more than enough heat to have him work up a sweat. It wasn’t until he heard the sudden apologies of someone in his doorway before he looked up, wiping his brow on his arm.

“Oh?” He breathed, slightly chuckling, “Ah, don’t worry, she’s no bother.” He stood up straight, curls sticking to his face with sweat, flexing to be rid of a bit of soreness. “Riven won’t mind her none.”

Indeed, if Jordun, or even Idriss, were to follow the carpenter’s gaze to just under the stairs, they’d see a rather shy chocolate colored doe peek out at them shyly, her eyes lingering more on the other doe more than Jordun. Were they to have more visitors today? If it was so, she might just….come out for once? Maybe? If they were kind…

He was preoccupied enough with trying and failing to grab Idriss before she ungraciously invited herself further into the shop to encourage the other Guardian to emerge from the stairs that he didn't quite notice the carpenter for several moments. Idriss, this is rude! What will our company think? But his spritely Guardian paid no attention.

"Oh, gods, I am so very sorry--" he started to launch into a length apology, but then he straightened and turned and had to stop. The fact that the carpenter was working without a shirt had completely escaped him until now. His entire body just had a... fine sheen from the sweat, so that he almost seemed to shine in the light.

"Uhm." Jordun struggled to find the words. What had he meant to say? All of a sudden, the words stopped on the tip of his tongue and he couldn't quite seem to reach them. "I certainly hope I haven't interrupted your shirt-- I mean, work. I'm sorry. Uhm." He cleared his throat and recomposed himself quickly. Silly, really, forgetting his words like that, although there had certainly been other moments when he'd walked into a room only to forget why he had gone there in the first place. This, he assumed, was just another case of that. "I was passing by."

Riven can't help but give a tiny sniff of laughter, though doesn't give the slightest indication of wanting to come out from her hiding place. She's curious about the other doe, yes, terribly so! But she's not quite sure if she's ready to trust these new visitors, especially while it is day.

"There's no need to be sorry, really." He assures his new guest, still trying to clean off the sweat from his brow, finally having to resort to using his shirt, draped over the back of one of his finished works. Finally able to look at his guests, he grins a little, obviously friendly.

"I don't mind, really. And sorry for my state of clothing, it's just easier to keep cooled off this way." He laughs, cheeks flushing a little with the...compliment? "But no, I get company from the neighborhood children, I'm used to having people come and go as they please." He throws in a smile for good measure, stretching his muscles again to keep them from getting too sore. "You're welcome to take a look around, never know when you'll need a good carpenter, right?"

Idriss didn't seem fazed in the slightest by Riven's hesitation, hardly seemed to notice it, in fact, as she stuck her nose under the stairs in investigate her new companion. The little white doe's exuberance was infectious more often than not, and she didn't seem too concerned about her prospects when it came to convincing Riven to emerge from her hiding place.

Meanwhile, her great cheer seemed to have rubbed off on her Chosen, who managed an uncharacteristically giddy laugh. His eyes widened at the mention of the carpenter's clothing, and he shook his head. "Oh, no, no, it's better that way," he said, before hastily correcting himself. "For... for keeping cool, I mean." And obviously, that was all he meant and absolutely nothing else.

Jordun resorted to distracting himself from his obvious distraction, turning his gaze away from the handsome carpenter and onto the man's handiwork instead. "You never know," he agreed, without quite realizing that he was already wondering what he could possibly get from a carpenter - specifically, this carpenter. "What, ah... what sort of work do you prefer to do?"
