The Land of Dreams

..........In this land we all exist in the waking world, but there is another world just beyond our sight. A place where whispers can be heard, visions seen, and inspiration is born. This is the land of dreams. This is a powerful land where we of the swamp learn our name. The Swamp shows us our purpose in this land where we can connect close to Her. When we sleep, our spirits visit this world, experience amazing adventures and gain amazing insight. But the land is fraught with many dangers, leading to nightmare and terrors. Some can become lost or too scared to enter this world, even to the point of separating from it entirely...........

Suddenly you open your eyes as the voice stops speaking. A gentle doe looks down at you, her blank white eyes seem calm and serene. "And that is why we are here: To be your guide and protector. We of this tribe know the world of dreams and seek to help all those who travel through it."

We are Dreamers

Founding: The tribe was founded by Floating Dream, a gentle doe who believed dreams needed someone to protect them. Dreams were not simple so she knew she would need others who possessed special talents.

Territory: The Dream Guides have no territory, they are strictly nomadic. They believe as dreams float like the clouds in the sky above, they should not hold themselves to one area. Also, they wish to make themselves available to all who might need them.

Special Place: There are places in the swamp where the veil between dreams and the waking world is thin. These places are special to the Guides so they hold important ceremonies there. New Guides are usually inducted as a full member at these ceremonies. New Watchers are tested for strength and fearlessness. Seers meditate in these places, keeping themselves connected to the dream world.

Mates/Children: Children are very important to this tribe, as they must be protected in their egg/sac to ensure they find their name. Some new mothers may wish a Guide to check on their eggs/sac, others may just ask for a small charm for protection and guidance. Being nomadic the tribe does not stay in many places too long so most children born are from flings from the tribe closest to them. Life mates are encouraged as well. Children born of the tribe must be able to keep up or may be left with their other parent's tribe until they are old enough to return to The Dream Guides.

Pets/Familiars: Pets and familiars are encouraged in the tribe; some are more common than others. A kin can have any pet but tribe members typically choose those most connected to their path. Moths and songbirds are usually favored by Guides. Watchers lean towards Giant Wasps and Owlcats. Guardians have strong bonds with Eaglehounds and Lynxes. Herbalists enjoy the companionship of mongooses and cranes. Seers have no specific pets, choosing theirs following a connection in the Dream world.

Abilities:
💜 Guides are able to go into a trance that allows them to enter the area of the dream world were the kin they are helping is having issues. They are not fighters, they merely help a kin navigate the dream world in order to achieve a deeper level of sleep.

💜 Watchers can do the same only they are trained to battle any malevolent spirits they meet. Their wills are far stronger and their minds steeled for anything that might frighten a more timid kin.

💜 Guardians, while strong physically, they are also trained in the Way of Waking. They know how to bring a Guide or Watcher out of their trance without causing them any harm and protecting them from danger.

💜 Herbalists know the ways of plants and how they affect sleep and the mind. They are gifted chemists and are also the cooks of the tribe.

💜 Seers go into trances like the Guides and Watchers but they can see the pattern in the dream hidden from others. They can read into things kin might not be aware of or even give predictions of what may come. Prediction is rarer gift than any of the others so it will be few and far between.

The Tribe

Guides
Guides are the kin who can enter the dream world and help those who are lost or can't seem to find restful sleep. Sometimes kin have trouble falling asleep, the dream world escapes them or the veil is too thick around them. Guides help their fellow kin pierce the veil and move into a deeper sleep. They are the most common type, helping other kin find peaceful sleep and relaxing nights.

Night Watchers
The Watchers are a hardy bunch amongst the Guides, but they specialize in the dreams that leave kin screaming into the night. Spirits inhabit the dream world but not all are kind and wise. There are those who would harm a kin, driving them to sleepless nights and even day terrors. Brave and willful, these kin help those suffering from nightmares or night terrors, entering the dream world to battle the darkest spirits.

Guardians
When the Guides and Watchers enter the dream world their bodies are left defenseless. It is up to the Guardians to stand over their sleeping brothers and sisters to ensure no harm comes to them. They also watch for any signs that they are being attacked in the dream world, having been taught how to properly awaken the Guide/Watcher out of their trance.

Herbalist
These kin assist in the dream process by creating special potions and incense that encourage sleep. They make the special incense Guides/Watchers use to enter their trance as well as general mixes for kin just needing help getting to sleep. They are also skilled cooks, preparing delicious meals that usually lead to a "food sleep" for the tribe.

Seers
Seers are a rare kin among the Dream Guides. These members can see the meanings behind a dream, reading the patterns woven into each kin's dream to discover hidden meaning. They answer questions a kin is confused about or learn more about a kin's state of mind. Not all kin enjoy their visions, as dreams can give light to things a kin is not ready to embrace yet.
Please keep in mind I will not approve a large number of these. They are the rarest talent in the tribe and as such will be few and far between. If you wish your kin to be a seer you must have a very good reason and have a back story to prove their seeing ability.

Why does your kin want to join? He's mostly following his sister into the tribe. He's always been her protector, and the one to get her the ingredients she needs from places she can't go to herself. Though his main reason for wanting to join is his sister, he is also interested in learning how to better protect her and the kin she hopes to care for. He also wants to find somewhere they can belong.

Why does your kin want to join? She's always been very good with herbs, especially those that make kin sleep. She never had a real purpose for her potions before, except for the few kin who knew her talents. By joining this tribe, she hopes to put her talents to better use as well as find somewhere she and her brother can feel they belong.

Why does your kin want to join? The life of a totoma is hard in the cruel, frozen tundras. Sleep is a necessity, which is why Starlit Warrior strongly believes every kin is deserving of it. He's seen in his own herd that it often came at a price. Near-death battles for territories and hunting expeditions gone wrong left many a totoma with scars visible and those beneath the surface. Starlit Warrior, most at ease at night and in darkness, often provided a stolid presence to those prone to nightmares. He never complained when asked to help, and provided he isn't needed to hunt for food or defend the territory, he is always there. He was drawn to the tribe for its nomadic nature, wanting to help as many terror-stricken kin as he can.
