Phoenix had been awakened for a little over a year now, and yet she barely changed into that other side of her. She hadn’t met anyone else that was like her, and thus she’d decided that she’d been bestowed this curse. There was also the fact that she’d exhausted herself the first time she’d discovered what she’d been able to do. The thief had grabbed her, pushed her and then she couldn’t even remember what had happened after. When she’d woken up, the guy was steaming and his skin was red as if she’d burned him to give him painful sunburn.
But tonight, her other self was calling out, it wanted out, pushing at the confines of her mind. Enough, it whispered. Then again, Ava could have been imagining all this, going crazy because of whatever had happened to her that one night. She didn’t exactly see herself going to a psychologist and saying “Hello, I turn into some sort of magical girl that burns people and fight weird monster people.” Oh yes, she could see the headlines now… There was also no telling her mother, she was a lawyer, and she’d send her to the crazy house. Her brother maybe? No he’d laugh in her face before running off to tell her mom.
There was no other way then to deal with her problem then face it head on, but how did you face a problem you couldn’t even control? Ava headed out that night into the park, turned into Phoenix and walked about to think. Thankfully, in this self she was never cold; she pulsated heat as if she was a heater. There was something liberating about just letting her other self go, she didn’t know what it was yet, but it felt nice sometimes to pretend to be someone else or, as she saw it, something else entirely.
