•Arcaena City•
As you enter the city, you realize that the air is different-it feels vibrant, alive, and almost invigorating with mystical energy as you step through the streets. All kinds of arcane energy seem to coexist within this place, mingling with each other and all finding practice and dedication within the city.

Welcome to Arcaena City, a place well known for its significant use and tolerance of all types of magic. Although particularly malevolent types of magic are placed under observation and regulation, anyone who practices the arcane arts, be it in healing, necromancy, or anything in between, can find acceptance and safe haven in at least a few places within the city. The majority of the city's infrastructure and utilities run on magical energy, and countless secrets are hidden within and even underneath the city's borders. Both normal citizens and magic users live in peace together, and little to no animosity is held between them, as both magic and physical labor play vital roles within the city-as do all who dedicate themselves to maintaining and increasing Arcaena City's renown.

The gates are open before you. Welcome to the city of magic.

As soon as they entered the city, Sic could feel the magic surrounding him. This was the prime reason why he'd chosen to take up residence here - just being in the city made him feel more powerful. It had been a long distance to travel, but he'd enjoyed the walk, and the moment he set foot in the city his weariness left him.

"Finally made it, eh?" he asked, turning to his companions. He wondered if they were as comforted by the presence of magic as he was.

Dolus, walking up right beside Sic, folded his arms and looked up at the city's buildings standing before him. The magic in the air washed through him, stimulating his arcane-influenced nerves and invigorating his tired limbs and slight exhaustion, knowing that it had done the same to Sic and, to a lesser extent, Isabelle, who still walked in front of them no less feisty for all the city's influence. Dolus simply took a moment to experience the city's power, feeling it with pleasure throughout his entire body. "Indeed," he said to Sic, "we made it. And a journey worth the labor it was. There is no place in this world quite like Arcaena."

Isabelle, stopping in her tracks and standing still as well, was similarly affected by the air and reveled in it as well, although she let very little of it show on her face. The type of magic she practiced caused the air to have a different effect on her; she felt almost at one with the ether and the fabric of time around her, feeling as if she could freely flow through past and future alike as the air brushed through her. She felt rejuvenated and emancipated by the city, and felt just as pleased to be in the city as the two men did-not just because their journey was over and because it was where their project would take place, but simply because it was Arcaena City, whose every stone was laced with powerful and elaborate magics, both ancient and fresh.
Isabelle soon returned out of her indulgence into reality and continued walking, feeling as fresh as she had when they had started their march to the city. "Step up to it, you two laggards," she called back at Dolus and Sic, "it won't do if we get separated and have to circumnavigate the city to find each other."

"No place, indeed. I'll never get tired of coming here," he said, taking another deep breath. The air here felt fresher, somehow. And though he was still looking forward to getting some rest, he was at peace.

"Where are you two staying the night?" he asked, sure that he would be sleeping in his own residence. It was above a bread shop and down the street from an inn, but it would have been quite rude of him to suggest the inn straightaway without even offering his own place. "My apartment is on the North side of the city. If you like, you and Isabelle can stay there for now. What business did you two have to attend to, anyway? Any place near where I live?"

At Isabelle's words, Sic realized that he and Dolus were, in fact, walking a bit slower than she was. Probably got a bit caught up in the city, he thought. "I liked your version of her better," he muttered with a grin.

Isabelle heard Sic's comment, and without turning around, she responded, "And I believe I preferred you when you were were mourning, weak-willed, and incapable of coherent speech." Her tone was so factual and emotionless that it dripped with sarcasm.

Dolus stifled a laugh as they continued on, rounding a corner on the wide street as and passing a few stone buildings, then answered Sic's question with a smile still remaining on his face. "Thank you for the invitation, Sic, but Isabelle owns an estate in the rich district of the city. We are going there right now to briefly rest then discuss the project. It's where we will be staying for the duration of our time here. I would insist that you join us for at least a few hours there, in fact. I doubt your apartment is going anywhere." Dolus winked, and let out a light chuckle.

Sic smirked a little at Isabelle's comment. She was a true ice queen. "Yes, I suppose you do prefer to be in control, don't you?" he asked teasingly. He heard Dolus stifle a laugh and briefly wondered once more what kind of relationship these two shared. Perhaps they were just colleagues. That was what it seemed like, after all. But there was obviously a great deal of history here that he did not know. Maybe he would come to learn.

Dolus asked if he would come to Isabelle's estate with them and he grinned, glad to have been invited. "I appreciate the invitation. However..." He turned back to Isabelle. "I suppose I'll have to ask Isabelle if it's all right with her. Perhaps if she says no I'll mourn."

Isabelle allowed a small smile to curve her lips at Sic's last comment, finding the remark genuinely amusing. This was after his first remark, however, which she found noticeably less funny. To her ears, it came about as more of a taunt than a tease, seeing as it was true-she did indeed prefer to have a grip over a situation-but combined with its teasing tone, Isabelle couldn't help but take it seriously. She felt no shame in taking control over a matter if it was necessary, so Isabelle wasn't offended by it very much, but she still registered it as a taunt more than anything else. But then, Sic's next comment made her smile, and the issue was resolved in that way. Isabelle didn't mind this Sic man too much, although she did find him a little too impulsive.

"So long as you don't mess up anything regarding our business," Isabelle responded to Sic's query, "I have no quarrel with you spending some time within my estate. I trust that you won't toss any more of your famous air missiles around anymore, however."

Dolus grinned and nodded towards Sic. "It's settled then. You'll be our guest at the estate. A warning, though," Dolus said, "as Isabelle says, it would be best if you didn't damage anything important, and we may be unavailable to you for some time during your visit, as we have certain private businesses to attend to."

Vincent wandered around the streets aimlessly. Had he any common sense, perhaps he would have considered getting food as his stomach began to grumble and roar at him, but for some reason he didn't feel the urge to satisfy it. He felt as though he would miss something important if he did, something that would deeply affect himself.

Isabelle's tiny smile didn't go unnoticed - it was clearly a rarity, after all. A moment of quiet pride was in order at this small victory. He may have cracked the ice queen's shell, if only for the moment.

"I assure you, my lady, I'll do my best not to break whatever wondrous artifacts you keep in your possession." At her reference to his 'air missile', he flashed a grin at Dolus. "I'll be careful not to let that happen again. By now we've all learned how fatal those can be," he said pointedly. The incident in the library was in the past, and he figured it was all right to make jokes about it now. Dolus explained that they may be unavailable for a while, tending to 'private business', and he nodded in solemn understanding. "I won't bother you," he assured his friend. His curiosity about said business, however, was running high. They still hadn't provided any details, and he had a feeling they may not.

A bewildered looking man crossed their path and nearly ran into Sic, causing him to abruptly stop walking and place his hands on the man's arms. "My apologies," he said politely, letting him go. "You, sir, look lost."

Vincent stopped as he ran into another man who apologized for the accident. At that Vincent awakened from his oblivious state and smiled. "S'all good, I'm not so much lost as I am bored. I have been wandering around for quite some time actually." He said with a bit of an embarrassed look on his face. Perhaps this is what he had been looking for, or perhaps he was about to be robbed, either way he felt that he had found what had been on his mind. "I'm sorry I bumped into you, I should have been paying attention after all."

      Your post or mine?

I think yours, seeing as Isabelle doesn't really care and Dolus probably thinks that Sic has a handle on the situation.

(As usual I'm perpetually confused about posting order. Also - waiting for underbears in Cohcostle.)

Sic smiled warmly - or as warmly as his smile could get, really - and took a step back. The man seemed to have been in a bit of a daze. It must have been a particularly pervasive type of boredom to put him in that sort of state, but he seemed fine now (if just a little embarrassed). "It's quite all right," said Sic, flicking his silver hair over his shoulder. He thought briefly of what Dolus had mentioned - that he and Isabelle may be unavailable for some time. He could use another companion. "If you're really so bored, perhaps you can come with us to Isabelle's estate!" he said, glancing at her. Already bringing along guests? he thought, questioning his own manners. It seemed worth it to go back on his principles a bit, regardless- otherwise, he'd be fairly bored himself when Dolus and Isabelle tended to their mysterious obligations.

Vincent was a bit skeptical. 'Wandering off with strangers to another strangers estate? Sounded plenty of safe.' He shook away the skepticism and smiled nodding. "Sounds fun, I have nothing else to do." He said with a bit of a chuckle. His younger brother would be out for the day so he had nothing to worry about. He stretched away the rest of his confusion. "My name is Vincent by the way." He said holding out his hand in a polite gesture.

Isabelle suddenly let out a sharp, deliberate cough and folded her arms, having turned to face the men. She didn't exactly appreciate Sic inviting strangers, bored or not, into estate as if she wasn't standing several feet away from him, and as a result her expression was one of narrow eyed irritation. Dolus, meanwhile, stood a little off to the side of the group, looking slightly uncomfortable. He had been about to warn Sic about inviting the stranger to come along without asking Isabelle first, knowing how Isabelle could be in certain situations, but now it was too late and he hoped she wouldn't take too much offense at Sic's impromptu invitation.

"I believe I should be the one being consulted here?" Isabelle queried, addressing both Sic and the stranger. "It is, after all, my house."
